Let's talk about the value of a manager in MLB and their compensation. Some say a manager is only successful if they win a World Series, but there's more to consider. Consistent winning is tough, and managers can still excel in guiding teams to playoffs. Plus, the low pay for managers compared to players raises fairness concerns. What's the true value of a manager's role? Should success go beyond World Series wins? Is there a need for fairer compensation? Share your thoughts and let's discuss!

Welcome to BF Masha!

I think CC's contract shows that there is more to manager compensation than WS wins... The manager's main role is more on the psychological role in the clubhouse; Team unity, being prepared to play, ensuring the players are getting the right coaching or focus for the games...

The in-game management role is important, but frankly it has decreased from what it was 10 years ago.  There are enough metrics to help frame decisions (i.e. don't have Adrian Houser go through a line-up 3x or don't have Rowdy Tellez hit lefties) that the in-game decisions tend to be setup much easier.

I'm sure the manager has plenty of value to the team, but not much more than an individual player.  Would be interesting to see a WAR metric for managers.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Thank you for sharing that information about manager compensation and their role in the clubhouse.
