Hickory Crawdads to Join Carolina League in 2025

In order for this to work, the Down East Wood Ducks (also affiliated with the Texas Rangers) will be moving to Spartanburg, South Carolina and will be jumping to High-A in the South Atlantic League.

This allows for Hickory to drop a level to the Carolina League.

Castillo Named Carolina League Player Of The Week
 
ZEBULON, N.C. –  The Carolina League announced Monday that Carolina Mudcats outfielder Luis Castillo has been named the Carolina League Player of the Week. 
 
Castillo is coming off a series at Salem in which he hit .556 with four home runs and collected 16 RBI while posting a 1.933 OPS. The 21-year-old concluded his week against the Red Sox with eight RBI and three hits on Sunday. 
 
For the season, Castillo is hitting .219 with a team-leading 14 home runs and a club-best 60 RBI. 
 
This marks the first time Castillo has won the award and he becomes the second Mudcats player to garner the distinction this season joining infielder Daniel Guilarte who was given the Player of the Week honor for the week of April 29-May 5.

Castillo Named Carolina League Player Of The Month
 
ZEBULON, N.C - Just a week after being named the Carolina League Player of the Week, Carolina Mudcats outfielder, Luis Castillo, was named the Carolina League Player of the Month for July as announced on Tuesday morning. 
 
Castillo is coming off a month in which he posted a slash line of .321/.431/.660 and led the league in slugging percentage (.660) and OPS (1.091). Additionally, Castillo was second in home runs (four) and RBI (20) and was fourth in doubles (six) and on-base percentage (.431). 
 
The 20-year-old was signed by the Milwaukee Brewers as an international free agent out of Higuey, Dominican Republic, on January 15, 2021. Currently, he leads the team with 15 home runs and 62 RBI.
