The Timber Rattlers (27-14) and Mudcats (24-15) were both victorious on Wednesday. The Shuckers lost their 3rd consecutive game and are just 8-19 in their last 27 contests. When she decides to interject herself in the proceedings, Mother Nature is pretty much undefeated. As such, the Sounds (23-23) will play two Thursday to determine where they'll be relative to the .500 mark. The Maryvale lads enjoy Wednesdays off each week in addition to Sundays.

Let's dig into the most recent slate of games.

Postponed: Charlotte (White Sox) at Nashville, rain

Thursday's doubleheader will likely feature scheduled starters RHP's Chad Patrick and Carlos F. Rodriguez. MiLB lists the always capable "TBD" to team with Rodriguez, but unless the timing of the rain messed with Patrick's routine, we will see Patrick, the return from Oakland for infielder Abraham Toro, who has excelled for the Athletics this season. Patrick (3.19 ERA) has been a pleasant surprise himself.

It'd be a shame to put Jeff Hem's Wednesday notes to waste, so catch up on all things Sounds at that link.

Biloxi Media Notes
Final: Birmingham (White Sox) 8, Biloxi 4, ten innings

Shuckers Drop Extra-Innings Slugfest to Barons Teams combine for 12 runs, 24 hits, Martinez Jr. smashes team-leading fourth homer of the year

The Biloxi offense is such that scoring three runs on nine hits within the regulation nine innings qualifies them as participating in a slugfest.

Brock Wilken did double in addition to a single, so his slugging percentage in the small 19-game Biloxi sample did "rise" to .338, plenty of work to do there, but this may have been a start. Wilken's prior nine games did not produce a single extra-base hit. This one, however, was pretty clutch in the 8th:

Also, Ernesto Martinez did this, so there's some slug for you as well:

By the way, yes, we've confirmed that the Biloxi staff is still planning to get the CF camera view resolved. It's complicated.

Biloxi's RISP: 2-for-13.

Noah Campbell is the latest pre-game interviewee on the team's audio archive page.

Justin Yeager had only allowed one run in his prior seven outings, so his misstep in the 10th with the ghost runner and beyond is not a major concern.

RHP Shane Smith has 37 K's and seven walks in 25 innings, so this move to the rotation is very promising. Forty-five of 69 pitches for strikes in this one, nice.

Final: Wisconsin 4, South Bend (Cubs) 2

Kuehner Ks Eight in Wisconsin Win - Rattlers beat Cubs 4-2

First, we had to learn that former Timber Rattler pitcher Tyler Woessner's last name is pronounced "Wayz-ner". Please be aware that southpaw Tate Kuehner's surname is pronounced "Keener".

And the 23-year-old 2023 7th round pick out of Louisville was indeed "keen" in this one, as Chris Mehring very ably detailed in his writeup linked above.

Inherited runners-scored: Costello 2-0; Yoho 1-0

So important in a tight game - well done, gents.

Team RISP: 1-for-14.
Team LOB: 12.

Thankfully, South Bend fared poorly themselves, 1-for-6, LOB 7.

Yesterday we quizzed you, identifying Eduarqui Fernandez as the club's OPS leader. Playing CF in this game, Fernandez tripled, singled, and walked.

Completing our italicized copy-and-pastes from the box score:

Att: 6,110.

That's a lot of screaming kids for the early matinee, right Chris?

Final: Carolina 14, Myrtle Beach (Cubs) 8

Mudcats Soar Past Pelicans

As noted at that link, things were knotted at 3-3 when runs aplenty scored in the softest, least slugfest ways imaginable.

Don't get me totally wrong, the teams did combine for seven XBH's, four by Carolina.

The Mudcats placed 28 men on base via hit, walk and HBP, impressive.

Team RISP: 8-for-21.
Team LOB: 12.

That'll work.

Daniel Guilarte is now 12-for-13 in SB attempts, he was 26-for-34 during his stay in Carolina in 2023. Guilarte singled thrice here.

Cooper Pratt reached base five times. Guilarte, Juan Baez, and Reece Walling each reached on four occasions. Yophery Rodriguez and Yhoswar Garcia three times apiece, and we need to get them a tandem Yo-Yo advertising gig.

Starter Daniel Corniel has avoided any blow-up starts in his seven efforts thus far. Only Brailin Rodriguez struggled, and special notation for Morris Austin's work, stranding two runners and closing things out in scoreless fashion.

Full crop of games on Thursday, including the Nashville double-dip. Have a good one!
