With the success the Milwaukee Brewers have had in recent seasons, it is only natural for other teams to come calling when they have vacancies, whether it is in the front office or the coaching staff.

Matt Kleine, the Brewers' assistant general manager, has been a popular name the last two years. Kleine is "a serious candidate" to take over the Houston Astros' baseball operations, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale.

The Astros terminated the contract of general manager Dana Brown on Aug. 24. Brown's deal was scheduled to expire following the season.

Kleine has been the top assistant to president of baseball operations Matt Arnold. He joined the Brewers as a scout in 2007, following a brief internship with the Astros. Kleine climbed his way up the ladder and has been a member of the baseball ops staff since 2014. He became the assistant GM after the 2023 season.

Kleine will have to figure out whether he wants the top job while working for an owner, Jim Crane, who has been heavy-handed in personnel moves.
