7-2-2004: Brewers (Wise) @ Pirates (Fogg) - GAME 2

Josh Fogg pitches well against the Brewers.

Therefore, clutch hitting exists.

Indeed

and then

Matt Wise's line tonight is horrible. Still, he was a victim of some bad luck...

I firmly believe that both luck, and clutch hitting (i.e. the mental part of the game) are just as much of a factor in a teams success as adding a bunch of numbers to determine who is the best players to start.

This sucks.

Just thought I'd join in the fun seeing as I was one of many fans thrilled to have two games on tonight and now I'm having the patented "Brewer-fan" anxiety that the team is now going to fall apart.

Not that it matters, but if a fan reaches over and touches the ball isn't that interference? This just keeps getting better and better. The Brewers haven't been "blown out" in weeks and now they get killed twice in one day.

Surprise surprise. They just called that a homerun.

Only in Pittsburgh does stuff like this happen to us.

Yep, 'cause those numbers are just arbitrary creations... the only way to really know who is a good baseball player is to see it for yourself. I mean, all these stat geeks just make up stuff. I don't care that studies of thousands of games have proven that clutch hitters do not exist... I *know* they do, and I won't believe any data to the contrary. Science is a big sham, and so is mathematics. It's all a bunch of intellectual hooey. I know the game. You don't.

Please. The fact that luck exists in baseball and the belief that clutch hitters exist are entirely unrelated. I agree that baseball is a mental game as well as a physical one. But that doesn't mean that myths like the "clutch hitter" are true.

I don't feel like getting involved in this *again*. A call was issued on the previous thread for *any* evidence that clutch hitters exist, and so far none has been advanced. Until that happens, this is just a science vs. religion debate, and those aren't any fun.

if randall simon gets a do-over on a hit where he decides to stop running to first, why can't we have a do-over on both games today?

It is just BS that they allow ballparks to be built with fans in the way. Is there a football field built that allows fans to get into the action when a guy is going for a touchdown? I think not. Get the fans out of play!!!!!!!

I hope all the naysayers are happy now. Ok Ok OK we arent worth a crap and we arent going to make the playoffs. Are you happy now?? Thanks for raining on the parade while it lasted though.

man oh freaking man, now this is probably me getting very frustrated with our brewers doing their best impersonation of 2 years ago, and i know i wouldn't be saying this if the brewers had won tonight's games or one of them at least, but i just plain think the brewers need to make a move, maybe it is bringing lil ben or hart up, i don't know, ok, the brewers weren't supposed to be this good this year, but guess what, THEY ARE, shake up a lil bit or a lotta bit, just do something, i think this is just me not being able to stand this type of play........

Chin up, brewerfan nation. Tomorrow is another day, and this is only a brief setback on the road to the World Series.

Let me play the role of JaNelson tonight by reminding the Brewers that the 13-man pitching staff is ridiculous already. Kieschnick, Wise, and Burba were all very rusty coming in -- heck, Kinney hasn't pitched in what, 13 days?

Oh well, maybe we'll get a crowd shot of Mrs. Kris Benson Saturday night.

Grieve drops an easy one.

My oh my this night has been ugly. It's like a terrible flashback into our recent history.
