6/1/2004 - Brewers (Davis) @ Dodgers (Weaver)

Posted

Looks like Doug Davis (3-4, 3.41) is the starter for the Brewers this evening, replacing Ben Sheets, who has been ill with a viral infection. Davis takes the hill on three days rest. The Brewers will once again look to get the offense untracked, this time against Dodgers' starter Jeff Weaver (3-6, 4.38) . Game time is 9:10 p.m. CST.

10:00 Eastern is a tad late to start, but I think all the parents on the board can relate.

7:00 start times are brutal, 8:00 not much better. That's prime time for mommies and daddies -- homework, bath-time, story-time, etc. Those are special times, and can't be rushed, or at least shouldn't be.

Obviously the start times are set for the fans in the stands. I'm guessing most TV / radio / online fans could easily live with 8:00 start times for all the games.

I'd vote for 8:30 myself.

It will be a good test to see how the team bounces back from a very tough loss yesterday. Let's hope we score a lot of runs for a change. I especially want to see Scott Podsednik get going.

Actually, my guess is that LA fans would rather have games not during working hours. An 8 pm start is just enough time to get home from work and then get back on the road to get to the game.

I lived in Southern California for two years. It stinks to be a baseball fan there. All the televised road games on the East Coast seem over by the time you get home from work. The traffic is so bad that people arrive late and leave early during the home games.

Be thankful that the Brewers play on Central time for the most part.

Jeff Weaver's pitches have a lot of movement. The Brewers should just let themselves get hit on those funky inside pitches. We could have had two more baserunners already.

Is there any batter who chokes more than Chad Moeller? He never seems to get a big hit when you need it.

I think that's a disconnect between perception and reality. The reason Chad seems to "choke" is probably because he just isn't hitting well. He's actually been slightly better in "clutch" situations.

Does Bob not realize that he keeps saying Davis is going on four days of rest and how back in the day, pitchers always only got four days of rest?

Bob's still wonderful, but you do catch him having more senior moments nowadays.

He's been confusing Overbay and Obermueller on the few days that Wes actually appears in games. Lot's of "Wes Oberbay's".

But you simply nod at your radio (or PC), acknowledge the error with a wink, and enjoy the rest of the call.

Dear Brewers Offense,

I tried you write you, but my letter was returned as undeliverable - apparently you can't be located. Please let me know where you are and when I can expect you to return.

Thank you,

Doug's really being a gritty battler out there tonight. If he can get through a couple more innings, I think everyone will be very happy with his performance.

That "warning" was ridiculous. If it ends up affecting the game, Terry Craft should be repremanded. Even if it doesn't affect the game, for that matter.

...at leady councell didnt advance the runner into scoring position. That would have doomed the inning for sure.

No one on for Grieve. Now we are back where we need to be.

I am stunned Counsell did not drop a sac bunt there. The offense is struggling and it would have been nice to get a guy in scoring position.

He just hit into a double play. I don't like it at all.

Double D is dealing tonight. Gotta respect his grittiness and his willingness to battle despite the tough assignment.

Anybody want to guess the number of times Nedley will use the word "battle*" when describing DD after the game? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

'At a boy, Doug!

I will be furious if Davis ends up with another loss or no-decision. He deerves a "W" for a change.

I am still furious that Counsell did not bunt in the last inning. I can't let it go. It's gonna bother me all night.
