  1. It's only snowed 3 inches all winter here total. It's going to be 75 in North Carolina today.
  2. Crazy story concerning 2004 #1 Draft Pick Matt Bush... I found it pretty funny and sad at the same time, and I'm happy we didn't select this nut case. Story per deadspin. Some offensive language, but more entertaining. Story per San Diego Tribune
  3. Crazy story concerning 2004 #1 Draft Pick Matt Bush... I found it pretty funny and sad at the same time, and I'm happy we didn't select this nut case. Story per deadspin. Some offensive language, but more entertaining. Story per San Diego Tribune
  4. I'm flying to Madison March 12th, leaving Madison for Jackson, WY on the 13th, returning on the 21st. Poor timing IMO http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. In North Carolina, Police set up DUI checkpoints (yes, that's legal here) and they check random spots. Everyone gets checked to see if they're drinking. I had the misfortune of hitting one of these checkpoints after going out to dinner with my girlfriend and her parents (in from Detroit). I didn't have any water in the car, so my breath smelled of alcohol (I had 1.5 glasses of wine and a beer over 3 hours before the test). The officer had me get out of the car and do a breathalyzer. I passed the test and was let on my merry way. I was scared poopless. The next week my best friend in the state hit a checkpoint, and he got a ticket for an expired safety sticker. You can refuse the breathalyzer, and they'll take you to the station. Once you get there, you can request a witness to delay it another 45 minutes or so. One of my friends had a buddy who blew a .27 when he got back to the station and he had a lawyer get him off the hook. Unbelievable scumbag lawyer IMO.
  6. I really like this deal... very low risk for a guy who has closed in the past, and had success down the stretch last year. Hopefully he can give us 50-60 decent innings with an era around 4-4.5.
  7. I'm guessing one or two more seasons as well... and I completely agree, the cameo at the end of the season was absolutely amazing.
  8. Interesting part of the article was the mention of the signing bonus possibly being in place to beat the new tax laws that might come into effect next year. I would imagine it would have gone 3.5, 4.5 or 3.25, 4.75 instead of 1 bonus, 3 and 4.
  9. My two teams are Wisconsin and North Carolina. Wisconsin is my alma mater and I took part in 2 Big Ten Tournaments and 3 NCAA Tournaments in the band. I now live in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill triangle, so I have the choice of three local teams: Duke, UNC or NC State. I chose UNC because I really enjoyed Tyler Hansbrough play even before I moved down here. I'm really happy that he didn't go chasing the money after his Junior year. How can you argue against that... it's a great thing for college basketball. My new lady-friend did her undergrad at Michigan and is doing her graduate work at Duke.... she likes Michigan Football and Duke Basketball, could it get any worse?
  10. ESPN Reports Matt Holliday to the A's for a package possibly including Greg Smith. I see this is in the Trade Rumors, but it's being reported by multiple sources now.
  11. I think he's going to be going for a little more than expected. Yes, he's had a past peppered with injuries, but he was a closer for 4 seasons with the Nats. He made 6.8 million last year, and I would expect him to demand something in the area of 2 years, $14 million.
  12. Gullikson was part of Bo Ryan's rotation before the suspension. He played a significant role in the 2006 tournament season, including nearly being the leading scorer in our only big dance game. Last time I checked, he's on this year's roster, and he'll be playing quite a few minutes for a walk-on.
  13. - Locking freshman band members in the bus bathroom for hours. - this is an exaggeration for sure, unless things got horribly worse since I got out... and no one was ever locked into a bathroom, you have to lock those from the inside... what a joke. - Forcing band members to play a game they call "Mystery Door No. 3," where students had to remove lingerie from a male band member in a room. - this is news to me, although stuff like this happened back when i was a freshman, but in different sections... not the tubas. - Making female band members kneel and bite a summer sausage. - i'm assuming male and female band members had to do this. - Performing degrading limericks. - NOT LIMERICKS, OH MY GOODNESS!!! seriously?
  14. Since when is the Greek System supervised by a UW Faculty Member in all aspects of there activities? Don't you think that these actions were a slap in the face of the entire University? If they could have pinpointed the individuals responsible, I have no problem with just punishing them. But, when no one says anything then you have to punish the group. Was Gulikson on a school sponsored activity? I didn't think so. I understand that kids will be kids, but they are also adults, grow up and start acting like it. Although they do not get scholarships, etc., they do get free transportation to the road games, and free admission. To me, that is some sort of payment. If I did something like this at my job, I would be fired in an instant, and if I was a part of a group that did this, I'm pretty sure we would all be fired. Don't you feel that you have a fairly skewed view of the incident since you are a member of the band?Of course I have a skewed view of this because I was a member of the band. The actions that took place didn't happen while the band was on a "University sponsored activity", but while they were off campus before the trip. Without having talked to any current band member about details, I'm 99% sure this is true. There's no reason to hang this over the head of Leckrone or any of his staff members. Also, I'd like to point out that the most serious of the charges, the sexual fondling, was proved to be false. Without blaming any of the victim(s), I'm a little upset that they decided they needed to go to the top of the food chain with their concerns. A chain of command policy was instituted to help band members find someone to solve their problem without involving the administration. Instead of allowing the band staff and top student leaders in the band have a shot at solving the problem in house, these people decided to go to the top. Let me put it in business terms: If your supervisor does something you don't like, do you email or call the CEO of your company? Of course not... you talk to your supervisor's supervisor and then escalate as needed until you get the proper response. I'm sure that if Leckrone had gotten a chance to deal with this, he would have come down hard, but without the airing of the dirty laundry and the press conference like the University Administration had decided to do. Trust me, he's the last person at the University I ever, EVER, would want to peeve. He would have dealt with the issue just as effectively, but without the band missing the largest game of the season.
