5/28/2004... Padres (Lawrence) vs. Brewers (Davis) 7:05 CST

If Catcher's interference is considered an error why isn't an AB charged to the hitter?

Because it introduces a variable into the plate appearance that can't be easily dispensed with. If the batter would not have hit the catcher's mitt, would he have made better contact? Would the grounder he hit have gone through the infield? Would he have swung and missed but gotten a hit later in the PA? It's an error because it gives the opposing hitter a free base... but the hitter might still have gotten that base.

0 BB and 10 K so far is not a good sign.....also the lack of SLG in this lineup is starting to show, especially when guys aren't getting on base.

Yeah, agreed. They're just not hitting, period. Even just putting together a string of walks and singles would be nice... they don't need a ton of extra-base hits to score runs, they just need some hits.

Heart of the order is due up in the bottom of the inning... I'm not ready to mail it in, yet. Hoffman is good, but he's no Gagne.

Have some faith, folks http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif .

Yeah, I wouldn't say this looks promising, but as they say - Don't Leave Early. Personally, Gagne is the only guy right now I'd say we don't have a chance to score 3 runs off of.

Any comment referencing "heart of the order" that includes Craig Counsell is an abomination to the baseball gods!

C'mon, David... that's all Counsell has is heart. He's a scrapper and he battles. He gives it his all, taking it one game at a time, doing everything he can to help his team win.

But you're right.

JENKINS!!!

Wow, who else here predicted a wicked changeup that woulda had Geoff flailing away hopelessly? Thank God Hoffman stuck with the fastball...

Swinging 3-0? And Bill Schroeder saying it's a good thing?

Mkay.

Ridiculous.

Go home unhappy, folks.

watching this game reminded me a few years ago when the brewers seem to strike out all the time, they were in the game even though they didnt hit till Vis came in and let them ahead with another home run. Is it me or does he not do that all the time. I think the crew are a ok team but they need to hit base hits and think about what they are doing at the plate they all look like they want to hit homers. Hopefully they will get hot soon they should have won tonight.

I don't really have a whole lot to add but I have to vent about the offense. This is getting ridiculous!!! 3 runs seems to be the ceiling for this team and I hate wasting yet another quality pitching performance by a Brewer starter. Of course you know they'll score seven tomorrow....that is after Obey gives up 8.

I hate losing winnable games with the difficult schedule coming up. If the Brewers want to stay above .500, they have to take advantage of games that are there for the taking because there are bound to be games against the better teams where talent wins out and they get blown out.

Side note: The Tigers had 27 hits yesterday...I get giddy just thinking about more than one in an inning for our beloved, can't hit the water if they fell out of a boat, Brewers.

Personally I would like to see Bil Hall get a little more playing time. He cant hit any worse then anyone else right know. Go crewhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/devil.gif

Alright...I have no idea why this offense is so anemic. I know that Pods and Jenkins are in slumps...but come on...their seems to be some guys with decent power, and people who can draw a walk. You would think they would break out at least once in a while....this is getting pretty ridiculous...I hope the Brew Crew is not about to crash and burn, but I wouldn't be surprised.

I was at the game tonight and boy is this offense just SAD!!!!!!!! Then talk about a major disappointment seeing brady in the lead off role WOW!!! WAKE UP NEDLEY. the thing is their could be hope if they were make some hard outs and they just weren't falling, but more often then not they aren't even hitting the ball hard. Ever since lyle has cooled down this offense has went in a funk.I'm not sure what is the answer but nedley is not gonna change things much anyway. He reminds me of George Karl meanig he is in love with the vets, refuses to give much love to the younger kids. How long can you ask your pitchers to constantly hold teams to 2 runs or less.

I was at the game tonight. I don't have too much to add, except that the main difference was that Lawrence was consistently throwing strikes and Davis wasn't. And even then the Brewers were in the game until Vizcaino served up that pitch to Burroughs.

Other random thoughts.

Overbay and Spivey should both be charged with errors on that play. Both of them have to keep the ball in front of them.

Spivey looked safe to me, I was sitting behind first, but he certainly forgot to make sure the ball got through the infield and he certainly didn't hustle back.

Sad to say it, but Cirillo does indeed look done. Loretta looks like he has plenty left in him. Moving to second was the best thing that could have happened to him.

Khalil Greene looks a lot better at SS than I would have thought. He's not a Gold Glover by any means, but he doesn't appear to be a liability either.

Giles appeared to have a beef on that call. He really wanted to be thrown out though. People at home probably got a better view.

Otsuka looked really good. I was glad when Hoffman came in.

Vizcaino looks tired to me. Did anyone catch his velocity? His lower body looks underdeveloped compared to a lot of pitchers and it may be putting additional strain on his arm.

Remembering back to the beginning of the season, I believe there were a lot of people projecting the Brewers offense to be about the same as last years, which finished 11th in offense. We may just be in the middle of a correction from their fast start.

Thoughts:

Dave is right, the lack of SLG is killing our offense right now.

Swinging on 3-0 when you're the tying run in the 9th inning is a "good thing"? Schroeder, you prove over and over what a buffoon you are.

Overbay isn't that good on defense. After watching him for 1/4th of the season, I am really not impressed. (I'll cope, as long as he keeps hitting .350 http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif )

I understand Pods needing a day off, but Brady Clark is NOT a guy who should be starting..........ever.

I was under the impression that Grieve could not drive in runs?

Luis Vizcaino blows.
