Modem drivers

The last few days the dreaded Error 797 keeps popping up and sometimes my computer freezes while surfing the net.

 

modemsite.com is at the top of the list when I google. Is this stuff trustworthy? I downloaded the lastest for my modem, but Microsoft advises against installing. Is Microsoft just being Microsoft? Just go ahead and do it. I run WinXP.

I would try to find updated drivers from your modem manufacturer's website before looking to a 3rd-party site.

Yes, get the driver from the manufacturer if possible, then go ahead and install even if XP says it's not "signed".

Before installing the 3rd party driver, be sure to set a restore point.
