    Breakdown/Highlights
Unlike weeks past, the final week of May was nothing but highlights.

The Brewers started the week by facing one of the best pitchers in the American League on Memorial Day. Garrett Crochet didn’t disappoint in front of the sellout crowd, striking out 11 Brewers in 6 2/3 innings of work, but it was his first pitch of the game that set the tone for Milwaukee, who’d eventually have the last laugh.

On the pitching side, Chad Patrick turned in yet another short but efficient start, tossing 4 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball and notching six strikeouts. The season debut of DL Hall followed, and Hall held the Sox to just one run, before Abner Uribe and Trevor Megill closed the door.

Game 2 was spearheaded by Aaron Civale’s return from the injured list, while the Red Sox went with a bullpen game. It would prove to be an effective approach for both clubs, as both offenses struggled to get anything going. Sal Frelick would drive in the Brewers' first run of the game in the ninth inning off Aroldis Chapman, sending the game to extras. A scoreless 10th from Grant Anderson and Rob Zastryzny gave the Brewers a chance to walk it off, and they did it in grand fashion, via this Christian Yelich slam.

In Game 3, Milwaukee would finally complete its first sweep of the season. They did that in walk-off fashion, too, this time off the bat of Caleb Durbin.

After an off day on Thursday, the Brewers traveled to Philadelphia to take on the NL-leading Phillies. Christian Yelich continued to be the hottest bat in the Brewers lineup, blasting two homers and driving in four runs, while Hall and Quinn Priester combined for a complete game, surrendering only two runs in the 6-2 victory.

Saturday was a slugfest. Phillies starter Jesús Luzardo came into the day with a 5-0 record and an ERA that ranked second in the NL, and left not only with a loss, but an ERA that had nearly doubled. That was due to the 12 runs Milwaukee scored, but the onslaught would continue after he left, too. When the final out was recorded, it was a 17-7 Brewers victory, highlighted by 23 hits—two of which were 3-run homers off the bat of Rhys Hoskins.

José Quintana was the third Brewers pitcher to return from injury in a week, making the start on Sunday. He battled through four early walks and a line drive off the knee to get through 5 innings of two-run baseball, which set the stage for another late-game Brewers comeback. A costly error from Phillies shortstop Trea Turner tied the game in the seventh, before a pinch-hit two-run double from Jake Bauers put the Brewers ahead for good. Then, Jared Koenig, Abner Uribe, and Trevor Megill closed out the final three innings to complete the sweep of the Phillies.

    Looking Ahead:

    • June 2, 2025 – Brewers at Reds – 6:10 PM CT
    • June 3, 2025 – Brewers at Reds – 6:10 PM CT
    • June 4, 2025 – Brewers at Reds – 11:40 PM CT
    • June 6, 2025 – Padres at Brewers – 7:10 PM CT
    • June 7, 2025 – Padres at Brewers – 6:35 PM CT
    • June 8, 2025 – Padres at Brewers – 12:05 PM CT

Their struggles over the first third of the season mean the Brewers will have to keep stacking series wins throughout the season, but this surge has turned the vibes of the campaign around completely. They have some momentum, and more help is on the way. The summer looks a lot more likely to yield competitive baseball than it did seven days ago.
