Breakdown / Highlights
It was another week of the Brewers' offense scraping at the barrel, a fact that was abundantly clear when Chris Sale and the Atlanta Braves strolled into town for a series on Monday. The reigning NL Cy Young winner was dominant, striking out 11 Brewers through seven innings. At the same time, on the other side, Aaron Civale made his last start for the Brewers, surrendering two of the seven runs Ronald Acuna Jr. and the Atlanta offense would score in their 7-1 victory. Quinn Priester would quiet the Braves' Bats in game two to even the series, tossing six innings of one-run ball, while Jackson and Jake Bauers both went deep, giving the Brewers a 4-1 victory to even the series. The Rubber match would fall in favor of the NL East foe on Wednesday, as Acuna Jr. once again went deep in Chad Patrick's first start, allowing more than three runs all year. At the same time, on the other side, Spencer Schwellenbach was efficient, allowing two runs in his first career complete game, bringing the Braves to a 6-2 win.
The highly anticipated debut of Jacob Misiorowski followed the disappointing series against Atlanta, and quickly, that sour taste was wiped away. The Miz tossed five scoreless, hitless innings, while the offense tagged Sonny Gray for six runs.
The Brewers would make it two in a row the next night, with six innings of one-run ball from Freddy Peralta, who dueled against Erick Fedde. A RBI fielder's choice from Christian Yelich, aided by some nifty baserunning, was the difference maker in that contest, with a 3-2 final.
The last two games of the week would be split. St. Louis, with some antics from Wilson Contreras, took game three of the series 8-5. Jose Quintana struggled in that one, while the Brewers' offense was able to gather up 15 baserunners, but fell short. On Father’s Day, Milwaukee captured the series. Quinn Priester turned in another gem, and Christian Yelich homered, and Trevor Megill escaped a jam in the ninth for another 3-2 victory.
