  1. Oof. More people from Facebook and Twitter. One year off from the site and not liking the direction at all. Still not browser friendly with the puffed out posts. Ads everywhere. Money money money. Good luck.
  2. Agreed. This forum seems a lot more geared towards mobile with the spacing and how everything is all puffy is the best way I can think of describing it. Large avatars on the left. Things in posts looks like 1.5 spacing. Tons of deadspace on the page. I included a snip form this thread and a thread from BGG as examples.
  3. Not really. Fans generally follow a team in any sport by where they live. Players change teams but teams do not change cities. You could probably get rid of all the MLB players and never have them play again and in a few years they wouldn't be missed much other than a footnote in MLB history. 10 years from now how many of the current Brewers will still be on the team?
  4. They want a better experience for fans then move into the current decade and make games more easily available to in market fans over the internet.
  5. This is a really good point. This community has always (tried) to remain focused on arguing the point, and not just taking personal shots at their fellow posters. It's easy to get frustrated with a person who doesn't agree with you, or see your side of things, but at the same time, name calling and one liners isn't going to bring them around to your side of things. I think a lot of people will be happy/excited to see the inclusion of likes/reacts and other sorts of fun widgets, but I'd prefer (my own personal preference, to be sure) that single-click widgets and stuff like that to veer away from negative reactions. Agreed. The best thing about this forum was the moderation always keeping the focus on the discussion and keeping internet speak off the site. I am not a fan of any buttons for like/dislike or anything else like that. There are plenty of other places around the web for that.
  6. If the players were really trying to stand up for the little guy they should be trying to get more money and amenities for minor league players. Of course minor leaguers are not part of the union so they don't give a crap. Baffling since almost every single one of them had to go through the minors.
  7. I've often had the random thought that if you hypothetically did this with every player so that the gap among them wasn't really noticeable...would people really care? Replace all the players and I will just have new players to cheer for. I cheer for laundry already.
  8. Personally the travel aspect of pro sports sounds absolutely miserable to me. Can't think of a worse way to spend 9 months especially when 1/2 of it is to Cincinnati, Chicago, St. Louis and Pittsburgh repeatedly. The other truth that is usually ignored in these conversations is that the vast majority of people don't have the work ethic necessary to make it in professional sports but that isn't something people like to hear. They don't have "half the year off" either. For every David Wells there are 100 guys busting their tail year-round to survive and just stay on a roster. The cognitive dissonance between what a fan thinks and what a professional athlete actually has to do to remain a pro athlete in 97% of cases in staggering. But not all that surprising considering 40% of Americans think they can compete at the Olympics. Reminds me of when fans used to say NFL players make $X to "work one day a week." Yeah...OK. Well yeah, curling. But really it is harder than it looks I am sure. I would probably be fine with that too. The worst part of the current system is that the best thing for the players and large markets might be to have no cap or sharing. It would probably result in more large contracts for players. Or complete revenue sharing which will never happen. As a small market team I can see why you wouldn't want to bother paying a ton of money to one or more players because you can't compete anyway. With even revenue sharing you can lockup your best players and have a chance to build around them with a larger margin for error.
  9. I think I did do my last job interview without pants. Video interviews are kind of nice for that. I don't care what the policy is, if you dress like a schmuck that is going to give at the very least some influence on the decision. All things equal, the person who did not dress appropriate is probably not going to get the job.
  10. They are just being polite if they ask if you want to write it down. The only reason to write it down is, well if the ticketing system is even halfway decent they can easily look up of you have a ticket. They could also email your manager if for some reason you called because your email was the issue.
  11. I think there were some games where Favre hurt the team by playing injured to keep his streak going. Plus, he made Sanders split the MVP one year which was crap.
  12. A .500 record in the playoffs probably means you made it to the championship game often. Especially if your team was #1 or #2 going in.
  13. The best way forward for small market teams is to make sure all online revenue is shared and make it easier for in market people to watch games online. Get rid of blackout rules. Plan for the future to make all nonstadium based revenue shared equally. Things are slowly shifting away from cable and I believe getting rid of blackout rules would help move that along. I honestly have not watched games for quite a while now because it is just too much of a pain to get them online. I do miss baseball but it is not worth the hassle. Get rid of the blackout rules and I buy a MLB subscription tomorrow.
  14. There is also a lot more revenue sharing. The NFL shifted when free agency made things more even, not a salary cap. A few MLB owners are buttheads and keep much of the shared money so the really rich teams use it as an excuse not to share any more than they absolutely have to.
