  1. Patrick. Great job as always. June 5th is here and it is your day to shine....
  2. Sbrylski, I think that was his pop up to the first baseman close to the stands.

  4. Hawn in home run heaven at Walters State Ex-South-Doyle star back after torn ACL BY ADAM GREENE, sports@knoxnews.com Wednesday, May 14, 2008 http://media.knoxnews.com/kns/content/img/photos/2008/05/13/051408hawn_t220.jpg Hawn MORRISTOWN - The Walters State baseball team has an offensive firepower that seems almost unfair. Especially because one of its top three hitters should be batting somewhere else. Instead fate stepped in for freshman third baseman Cody Hawn, who has given the No. 2-ranked Senators (52-7) and their power-hitting recruiting class, one more weapon. "We got him (Cody) late and he fit in perfect with the team," Walters State coach Ken Campbell said. "He started out on fire and carried us for a while. He was red hot." Walters State plays at Young Harris College (50-11) on Friday in the opening game of the Eastern District Championship. The winner of the best-of-three series advances to the juco World Series in Grand Junction, Colo., starting May 24. If Hawn's senior year at South-Doyle High School had gone as planned, the Tennessee Junior Community College Athletic Association Player of the Year would be at Arkansas. Instead, a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee forced Hawn to watch South-Doyle's title run from the dugout during his senior season. "It feels so good to be back on a team and on the field," Hawn said. "I was part of the South-Doyle team, but it's no fun to sit there and watch. It doesn't compare to playing." With the choice of redshirting as a freshman for Arkansas while his knee healed or joining the Senators and contributing, Hawn's decision was easy. He wanted to play. "It's changed my life," said Hawn, who was drafted last June by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 23rd round with the 701st pick overall. "I've been put in a great position. I've got great hitters around me and get to see a lot of fastballs. I'm at a good spot in the lineup to produce." Hawn has produced 20 home runs. He is one of three Senators, along with Kyle Koeneman and Dylan Pratt, ranked in the top 10 in the country. The Senators have hit 151 home runs this season and sent car insurance premiums skyrocketing on the Walters State campus. "Everybody on the team was a 3-hole hitter in high school," Hawn said. "We've knocked a couple of windshields out this season. You don't want to park your car around our field." Hawn hasn't looked back since joining the Senators. The playing time has paid off. He has not only fully recovered from his injury, but grown as a player. "This was the best decision I could have made," Hawn said. "I had some struggles. The pitchers are a lot smarter, and I needed to develop a better approach at the plate. It's really helped me adjust to the mental and physical part of the college game." Walters State's 2007 season ended in disappointment, but the Senators are just a year removed from a World Series championship. "These kids are the same type of team we had in 2006," Campbell said. "This is what we've been working for all year. Our hitters are confident, but we're going to need to raise our game to another level." Hawn agrees. It's difficult to miss the signs and banners touting the 2006 Senators, along with the championship rings owned by the coaching staff. "We're all hyped up," Hawn said. "It can get kind of scary, but when you look at statistics, I think we're very similar to that 2006 team that won it all. We think we're one of the top two or three teams out there. Everyone here can change a game with one hit. I don't know if any other team has that kind of arsenal." http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2008/may/14/hawn-in-home-run-heaven-at-walters-state/
  5. This is the first time I have done this and I have no clue if this is any good to others or not. This was great game to take your kids to. My two boys and the kid we took with us all got a foul ball and were on the big screen several times. I have a few pics. I will try and get them on here if I can. . Laporta He just missed the go ahead homer by a couple of feet. That was one of the balls we were able to get. He made all of his plays in left and displayed average arm strength Gamel His homerun was a shot. The ball jumps off of his bat even on outs. He also made every routine play in the field and one spectacular diving to the line catch that saved the game in the 10th. Salome He handled the pitches from Wright very well. He took a foul bunt attempt off of his right foot or leg, I am not sure if that is the reason he came out our not. He threw out one base runner on bang-bang play. Wright The radar gun put him at 72 - 85. This is a slow gun. Just about the same speeds as Inman last year at the same park. The umpire was giving him the low strike and he kept pounding the zone at the knees. His off speed pitches kept most of the Smokies off balance all night. Brantly He is just a smart baseball player. He looks a lot more comfortable at he plate this year. He has a plan with each at bat and is very patient. He is also very versatile in the field. He caught a bullet to double off one of the Smokies while he was playing first. Escobar Smooth and fast Errecart and Gillespie (Bell also goes in this group, but the other two are probably better prospects. ) These guys are baseball players. They can hit and field. I would not be surprised to see these guys get a shot in the MLB at sometime.. Hinton Looked very good this night. He was hitting 87-88 on the radar.
  6. Hawn going to Walters State By Nick Gates Thursday, August 23, 2007 http://media.knoxnews.com/kns/content/img/photos/2007/08/22/0823hawn1e_t220.jpg A Milwaukee Brewers scout, who was watching South-Doyle High School's baseball team play last season, report-edly told a University of Arkansas assistant coach that third baseman Cody Hawn, a Razorbacks signee, would never make it to the Fayetteville campus. The scout's reasoning? The Brewers, who selected Hawn in the 23rd round in June, would sign with the National League team even though he missed his senior season because of a knee injury. The scout was partly correct. Hawn reneged on signing with Arkansas. The left-handed hitting Hawn didn't sign with Milwaukee either after negotiations broke down. He will be playing for Walters State next season. Hawn will report to the junior college in Morristown and be on the field next Wednesday when coach Ken Campbell's team opens fall practice. The Brewers and Hawn, who played three summer league amateur games this summer, turned down a $168,000 of-fer by Milwaukee before the last week's deadline. "He had been negotiating with the Brewers right up until the last minute," Campbell said. "He decided to come with us." But why not Arkansas? "We are keeping our options open," Hawn's father, Jeff, said. Wednesday. Hawn will be eligible for the 2008 draft. If he had joined the Razorbacks, he would not have been eligible until the 2010 draft. He also can transfer to a Division I school after one or two seasons with the Senators. The University of Tennessee could be in Hawn's future. "There is a possibility he could wind up at UT or South Carolina or Arkansas or any of them," Jeff Hawn said. Hawn was an unexpected addition to another outstanding recruiting class for Walters State, a nationally ranked program that won the Junior College World Series in 2006. "We know he is probably the best hitter in the state of Tennessee," Campbell said. Walters State had recruited Hawn while he was at South-Doyle. "We certainly tried to recruit him before he signed with Arkansas," Campbell said. "He always knew there was an open door here." No position change is anticipated for Hawn, who is six months removed from surgery. "We're going to look at him at third base," Campbell said. "That might change." Former South-Doyle pitcher Chad Bell also looked at the possibility of switching to Walters State but decided to go to Memphis, where he is a signee. "His dad called us and he came up to visit at the last minute," Campbell said. "We thought he was going to come but decided to go to Memphis." http://web.knoxnews.com/static/images/kns/logos/lighthouse.gif © 2007 Knoxville News Sentinel
  7. With the possibility of getting a lot of draft picks in next years draft we need to give Jack Zdueriencik a big check now to make sure he is around to conduct next years draft. I sorta like his track record with high draft picks.
  8. I was at the Smokies vs Stars game today. It was a very good game except the Stars lost. Inman looked very good. He had a nasty curve today. The radar gun at Smokies park is a very slow gun and I think the highest he reached was 87-88. I have been to several Smokies games and I have seen very few players in the 90's. Does Inman have problems with guys on base(for someone who may know)? When he is in his delivery he has a high leg kick and takes the ball back really low. In the Stretch he stills takes the ball down low, but not as high of a leg kick. I was impressed and he did a good job. The play Hurrican and Escobar made was AWESOME in the third inning. Hernan fielded a ball up the middle with no one own and just flipped it with his glove hand to Escobar and they still got the guy out.
  9. My wife was his hygienist for several years. A really good young man who had a bad break for his senior season. Chad Bell is also a good player as well. www.knoxnews.com/kns/prep...21,00.html
