  1. Has it been announced? My guess... Oct 9th - Greinke Oct 10th - Marcum Oct 12th - Gallardo Oct 13th - Wolf Oct 14th - Greinke Oct 16th - Marcum (Gallardo if they are behind 3-2) Oct 17th - Gallardo (Marcum if Gallardo pitches previous game)
  2. But why not? Why not adjust lineups more frequently for current trends that players are on? It's not like if he gets dropped to 8th he has to stay there. Lineups should be more dynamic. It's not like we are talking about moving Albert Pujlos in the lineup, this is Casey McGehee, a guy who has had two good seasons but has possibly hit his peak and is off to a rough start.
  3. Some interesting responses. I will admit when I posted, it was after a frustrating day at work so I was in the mood to argue about anything. However, my simple point was that this current roll the Crew is on is a bit deceiving and I don't think we should be too excited with this team right now. A lineup with 3 performing hitters and 6 below average players is not going to make it. Its almost as though an overconfidence is taking over and everyone is writing off these bad starts because the Brewers record is decent. I certainly realize its only 11 games in - that is actually the very start of my post so its funny how everyone started attacking the small sample size as if I was unaware of this fact. This is a classic problem when looking at data - do you use a smaller sample size that is more current or a larger sample size that is more dated? I clearly understood that I was using a small sample size, but it was for the specific purpose of evaluating how the team actually played over a stretch where they went 6-5, therefore, it was the correct sample size to use. My post was meant to warn that we shouldn't get too excited yet and then to pose the question of whether the players would start to play closer to their averages or if we were headed for a worse record. I am certainly not known as a pessimist so its not like I am trying to point out something just to bring everyone down. Again, as I have stated many times, with this lineup, if they produce as they have, we could be headed for a tumble. To those who posted about Gomez's defense, I will agree with you on that, but I still have a hard time swallowing the fact that we have a player in the lineup solely for defense at the #2 spot much less in the lineup at all. Maybe the batting order will resolve itself when Hart comes back.
  4. This is a true "homer" post. Look at the stats man...if this pitching holds up...World Champs for the Crew!, but I am trying to be realistic. How does Gomez serve a purpose...as a 9th inning defensive replacement? Homer? Saying good pitching wins games is just common sense. The pitching won't always be great but over the course of a season it will be consistently better. And Gomez is more than a defensive replacement. There are teams with guys worse than him starting. It's just that people have grown to hate Gomez and point out everything he does wrong and are all over him everygame. He can go 2 for 4 and people will complain he flew out on a first pitch. He may not be an elite player but he is far from useless. As was said above, he would be much better suited in the 8th slot and having Morgan hit 2nd for the next couple weeks until Hart returns. But he is nowhere near as bad as most would like to think. Once you show one stat proving that Gomez is more than useless I will believe it.
  5. Anyone who quotes RBIs is a joke in my book. RBIs is the most worthless stat in baseball. Have guys on ahead of you and you are bound to get RBIs.Welcome to Brewerfan.net, Brian. You make a fair point about RBIs not being a good measure of a player, but in your first post you seem to be judging McGehee on only his 38 PA for the year. It is important to look at a players overall performance over a long period of time to make a judgement on what type of hitter he is and make a reasonable prediction on his future production. On top of that, 11 games is a small sample to judge a team based on wins and losses. Specifically 2 of the games were lost on bad performaces by the bullpen. The Brewers could just as easily be 8-3 right now with the same offensive production and this thread would probably not have been started. The most important thing, as others have said, is to get the starters back and healthy. Almost this identical lineup was the 2nd or 3rd best offense last year in the NL and it has that same potential for this year, and maybe a slight improvement with Nyjer Morgan and Yuni instead of Escobar. I have followed the posts for many years, but just started posting. How did people not see this coming with McGehee? If he turns it around, I will eat crow, but this is typically 27-29 year old peak followed by downfall. I hope he proves me wrong, but stats, small sample size or not, speak for themselves.

  7. Especially when the proposed solution is to bat McGehee, a guy who drove in 100 runs last year, in the 8th spot. Anyone who quotes RBIs is a joke in my book. RBIs is the most worthless stat in baseball. Have guys on ahead of you and you are bound to get RBIs.
  8. The problem is that it had been only Weeks, Braun, and Fielder who have contributed. A lineup with three above average players does not work...you need at least a few role players with average OPS. I love the Brewers and I am not trying to be negative, but this team will not hold up with the current lineup if he run into pitching problems.
  9. Please tell me that is a joke about Lucroy hitting #2. A catcher does not hit #2 - too much else on his mind. The problem is that the lineup is not structured properly for the way the team plays...if you are going to have a lot of big hitters in the lineup you need a guy who draws walks in the #2 spot. I actually wouldn't mind Hart in the #2 spot...we go with... Weeks Hart Braun Fielder Lucroy Betancourt - or find a new SS, as everyone knew, he would not contribute Morgan/Gomez McGehee Pitcher
  10. I know it's only 11 games into the season, but this roll (after starting 0-3) will not continue with these guys in the lineup... Gomez - OPS of .537 for a #2 hitter is horrendous. That could be an all-time low for a #2 hitter. McGehee - OPS of .578 for a #5 hitter is a joke. Also could be an all-time low for that position. The point I am trying to make is that w/o great starts by the big three (Weeks, Braun, Fielder) and some pretty decent pitching, we could have had an awful start. The question is...do the stats revert to the mean or does the W-L record drop due to these incredibly weak links in the lineup.
