  1. You are so right, David. We deserve a video screen that works but, short of that, a scoreboard at LEAST as good as what we had in 1985. Give us the batter's stats, sheeesh! The only difference between the Stars scoreboard of the last couple of years and the average high school scoreboard is that Huntsville posted the batter's uniform number. I can SEE his number, tell me what his average is, how many HR and RBI ...
  2. If they can get fans to volunteer to take up the parking money, sell tickets, act as ushers or anything else other teams have 'employees' to do, they'll do it. Clean the restrooms? Sure, it'll add to the fan experience~
  3. "However, Rogers also realizes that selling baseball in football-mad Alabama will always be a challenge" ... Which explains why Birmingham and Montgomery each averaged over 4,000/game and Mobile over 3,000
  4. I agree, David. I told someone at work today that I will almost be glad to see them go. As long as they are there, I will want to go see and support them but it's getting harder and harder to make the trip (at least 1 hour each way) to sit in a 10,000 seat stadium with 300 or 400 other folks, a scoreboard that doesn't work and all of the other bush-league things that go with attending a Stars game. We will start weaning ourselves off of the games this year and look forward to maybe one trip a year to Chattanooga, Memphis, Birmingham, etc. I will also continue to follow the Brewers and former Stars where ever they are playing and continue following this website. Brewerfan.net is the best.
  5. -- The quality of the playing field. "At one time, it was pretty good," Ash said. "It isn't now." The Stars led the Southern League in errors this season, many attributable to unpredictable bounces on the field, according to manager Mike Guerrero. I'm not disputing, I'm sure the field is not the best, but I wonder if anyone has done any reseach comparing the Stars errors at home vs road games and visitors errors in H'ville compared to their home or in other road games
  6. According to Baseball America, San Antonio (Padres), Erie (Tigers) and Arkansas (Angels) are all that's left. Assuming the Padres stay in San Antonio, I could see Erie or Arkansas coming after the Brewers but don't see Detroit or California 'courting' Huntsville. We will end up with what's left, and that may be the Brewers.
  7. So are you asking to trade your SGA Huntsville set for the SGA Wisconsin set?I don't know if they were SGA or not but there is a 2010 Wisconsin set listed on e-bay, looks like 30 cards plus checklist card. That is the set I want. I've not seen sets from Helena or Brevard yet but I assume they are coming before the end of the year.
  8. I have both. I've only opened the retail set but the sga looks exactly the same and appears to have as many cards in it. I think they just gave away the retail sets that day. 29 player cards plus staff. I can pop one open just to make sure, unless you want it unopened. I'll also throw in one of the 5-card DAV sets in each trade.
  9. I have extra sets of 2010 Huntsville Stars cards I would like to trade for 1 each of 2010 Helena, Wisconsin, Brevard and Nashville.
  10. I've got 10 extra sets of the Huntsville DAV cards (Cain, Gindl, Green, Lawrie, Rivas). E-mail johnnymack55@wmconnect if you're interested. First 10 to respond can have a free set, I only ask for a SASE. I posted this here instead in the Trading Post forum because I'm not looking to trade, just thought some Minor League fans might want them. Also, if any of y'all are coming to Huntsville later this season, I may have a few extra tickets you can use.
  11. It was a foul pop up. He was running full speed when he hit the concrete wall which is maybe 4 feet high, from my angle I couldn't tell if the ball hit him or if it was the collision with the wall. He wasn't down long, got up and went straight to the dugout/clubhouse, no blood visable. The oddest part of the play, to me, was he hit the wall just a few feet from the Stars bullpen and I never heard anybody hollering at him about how close he was to the wall, if the ball was out of play, etc.
  12. If this works, Brandon Kintzler doing his best Rick Dempsey impersonation ...
  13. Last year there was a lot of "Assigned to Helena", I've not noticed any of that this year ...
  14. It didn't look so bad. I'll admit, I was watching the runner cross the plate didn't see Lo when he pulled up but he appeared to be walking well as he left the field, no limp or favoring of either leg. I've posted some pictures from Sunday on Facebook.
  15. The single back to Jones was a very good bunt. The pop-up to Lawrie was actually a very high pop behind the mound that all four infielders stood in their tracks and watched. Just about the worst defensive effort on any one play I've seen in all of the Stars' years in Huntsville. In the first game, Cain led off in 4 of the 6 innings for the Stars. I'll have some pictures from these games posted tomorrow evening.
  16. The Huntsville game has already been cancelled due to predicted bad weather. DH scheduled for tomorrow, 1:00 pm.
  17. A few shots from today's game. Also had a brief conversation with Caleb Gindl's dad while in line for ice cream. Several family and friends of Caleb at the game today.
  18. Still no go.Sorry. If the link works for some, maybe they can fix it so it will work for all. I will be posting more pics as the season goes along.
  19. I'm not able to view the album; are you sure it's not behind a privacy wall?Try again now. If this doesn't work, I'll put them on a page on my other website. I changed the link in the original post but I think the old link still shows up in your response.
  20. I'm not sure the best way to this but I've got several pictures from the Stars games this weekend in a Facebook album -
  21. Stars win! Guaranteed at least a tie for the first half title, pending outcome of Carolina-Tennessee game (start delayed by rain/wet grounds)
  22. Green now with 2 errors in the 6th, Stars down 6-0 in the 6th. Barring a miracle in the top of the 7th, they will be in a flat tie with Carolina with 2 games to go.
  23. After losing game 1 in walkoff style in the 9th (and being no-hit after the 1st!), Stars fall behind 2-0 in the 2nd inning of game 2. Drew Anderson with 2 errors in LF during that 2nd inning and catcher Vinny Rottino ejected after a close paly at the plate.
  24. An excellent interview. I remember reading an article in (I think) USAToday when Coolbaugh was called up to Milwaukee and him saying how it made all the minor league years worthwhile. In that article, he mentioned a big difference between the minors and majors being how the uniform fit. I also remember reading at the time about the Rockies voting his family a full share of their championship money but today was the first I have heard about the rings and pendent for the kids. Very nice and classy of the Rockies. After reading Todd's interview this afternoon, I wish the Stars would retire Mike's Huntsville #32.
  25. Stars score 2 in the 6th without hitting (3 BB and an E) the ball out of the infield, Donavan Hand now pitching. Now Bucci can go back to Arizona with a win and a 0.00 ERA.
