  1. I would think Marcum is a no-brainer, but I'm also a big believer in his changeup. Beyond that, I would probably take Verlander. And then, if you can get the Cuban Missile for $15, I think you have to do it, though I could see Freeman having value. Stubbs could easily get lost in the shuffle in the Reds' OF.
  2. Away Game Lineup Gallardo (Immediately subbed out for either the P or a PR, depending on the outcome of the 1st AB) Weeks Braun Fielder McGehee Hart Gomez Yuni Token Catcher Bat the four best hitters 1-4. That said, I would have no problem with Gomez in the 2-hole once he opens his batting eye. I don't think Captain Ron is going to have a problem running in front of Braun/Fielder given that one of his first statements was that he was going to frustrate fans with his aggressiveness on the bases. No caveat concerning our 3-4 hitters exempting said aggression (in fact I am quite excited about the prospect of seeing Prince approach double digit steal....attempts).
  3. Scooter Gennett and Brooks Hall. Weren't those two of the guys who terrorized Brendan Fraser in "School Ties"? But seriously, along with D'Vo and Kentrail, they are the most exciting prospects from our 2009 haul. One of the four is going to stick on a top-100 list come the end of the season.
  4. I think it's been said ad nauseum that Covey and the Brewers had agreed to a deal and all that was left was the formality of a physical. It was during this physical that he was found to have Diabetes. He then went on to say that he was impressed with the Brewers' willingness to still offer the deal even after he was found to be afflicted. I hope the Brewers end up drafting him again, as I can't imagine any sign of an aversion to our organization. In the mean time, we will be drafting two players that will undoubtedly be top-5 prospects come the end of the year.

  6. Carl Pavano is one of the better FA RHP. To be honest, with his aversion to the BB, I would not have a problem with it at all. He's shown a proclivity to pitching in obscurity. I like it. I just hope Pavano doesn't expect "big city" money. Last year, Pavano was everything I always hoped for from Bush. That being said, I still hold out hope that DaBush will return. It was meant to be.
  7. I WANT PRIOR! I WANT PRIOR! Trojan workhorse. Can we get him a PED exemption, similar to Mike Lowell's "doctor note"? (And I realize how insensitive it is to say, so I'll just stop my joke there)
  8. Gomez is still defining his game. The guy could have the light come on quickly and become Hanley, v. 2.0. Also, with Roenicke's recent statement that he wants to put more pressure on the defense with the team's speed, I don't see them trading our fastest player.
  9. I would take a look at....DAVE BUSH! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Love Bush! Also: Javier Vazquez Brandon Webb Aaron Harang Rich Harden Brad Penny Ben Sheets ....Mark Prior I don't see how we need another lefty considering we already have two definitely penciled in, and our ace is a RHP. Nevertheless, all of these pitchers would come relatively cheap (or extremely cheap in the case of Big Ben/Prior). I doubt either Ben or the former Trojan ace would ever come here, but you don't know unless you try. Harang has shown that he can be an absolute workhorse (at least until Dusty brought him in vs. us in the 10th inning a few years ago). Vazquez, as mentioned earlier, has a history of doing very well in smaller markets but bombing in big markets. Harden/Penny have shown flashes of dominance, but also have done their best impression of "Ben Hendrickson vs. the Twins". As for the trade market, what about AJ Burnett?
  10. Bob's cats are going down tonight. Jennings for 28/8. Bogut with a 19/9/5bl night. And let's hope a rotation begins to take shape soon.
  11. Don't get me wrong. Mikey Bradley probably our second or third best player on the pitch most matches. But his intensity doesn't lend itself well to keeping a good pace late. Yes, his superb sliding goal was late, but almost anyone could have finished (and I also realize he is NOT the man we want finishing). But again, his lack of fitness lent itself to being burnt time and again by the African marathoners of Ghana. Our lack of depth was quite evident in this respect. Please don't think I don't absolutely adore the Bic'ed One. But I really hope when he is our starting MF in 2014 in Brasil, he learns to pick his spots better and let Jermaine Jones run himself ragged.
  12. I like Bradley as our coach a great deal. We have exceeded EVERY expectation under his watch except in the Ghana game. Were we the better team on the pitch that day? Probably. But the result didn't indicate that. Honestly, the only decision I questioned that day was starting his son in MF. I absolutely adore Mikey but he was on fumes by the knockouts and could have used a day of rest. I would wager that he ran a marathon in South Africa as a complete dead sprint. But if he didn't start the sparkplug, he would have opened himself up even more for criticism. I like what Bob did in South Africa a great deal. And honestly, I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt after how far we've come in the last 4 years under his watch.
  13. I would probably pick Man City. They have a video game roster in place and it will undoubtedly irk your Liverpool mate because of the different set of rules City seems to play by. Following them may be a pain because they don't have any sense of cohesion but their roster is made for gaming. And as they say, when in Rome. Otherwise, you could always buck the trend and go with a team like Ajax. I love me some Ajax!
  14. I would definitely say that Gibson would have been a quality consolation prize. If we would have given Covey a physical earlier, and thus negated a lot of Dylan's interest in turning pro, we could have put on a much better push for one of, if not, the best prep southpaw in Florida. Now...all I can really hope for is a Cuban or a Dominican. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. Could the Brewers have a Gibson/Jones-type back-up plan? Like if Covey turns down their $1.7M offer, they could offer Gibson $1.2M and Jones $500k, while recouping a mid-1st next year in what is considered to be a deeper draft.
