  1. This was definitely one I was wrong on. Not so much that I was losing sleep at giving up Dubon, but I just thought we could have gotten someone with a longer track record or more control.
  2. With these small samples I would normally trust the scouts over the analytics. But the scouts are so mixed on what he is that it is hard to rely on them. What he has actually done at the major league level so far this year doesn't look very good even if the actual stats look good. Process generally trumps results, especially when you are talking these really tiny sample sizes. It is one of the keys to winning at fantasy baseball, being able to understand when the basic stats aren't telling you what is truly happening.
  3. At least use some stats that are approaching being meaningful in that small sample. His average exit velocity is well below average at 83.6. His barrel rate is just awful, one of the worst in baseball. His xwOBA is .286 which is also well below average. His walk rate is downright ugly. The only really good thing he is doing right now is not striking out and that carries a good bit of value in today's game imo. His launch angle is also decent so he is at least hitting the ball in the proper plane. The samples are too small for any stat to really capture things so far but overall Dubon's stats don't paint a very pretty picture so far.
  4. I just watched him pitch. When he came back from his injury his mechanics were off, he didn't have nearly as much power in his lower half and his command never recovered. He looked like a different guy. Injuries are part of baseball, all kinds of careers get derailed by them and it isn't always just career ending or nagging things. Regardless it is hard to say that Woodruff is the best since Sheets when he isn't clearly above Gallardo yet, it is too early. Gallardo was a success for the Brewers.
  5. I would quibble with this a little bit. They certainly have a bad track record, no issue with that. Gallardo was a good pitcher whose career was derailed by an early injury. He was never the same after that injury against the Cubs, never had close to the same command from that point on. He still posted an ERA+ of 108 or better for 9 of his first 10 seasons. He certainly is better than Woodruff at this point. I don't think the pen was a big weakness way back in spring training. Jeffress has been bad and Knebel got hurt which really diluted it. This was a really bad trade deadline to go for it hardcore, people don't like it but it is true. Not making big moves was the smart approach here. I still don't like what we did mind you. Aguilar is better than his stats suggest this season and Pomeranz is just not a good target even if Dubon doesn't turn out to be much.
  6. I think they said almost 70 players switched teams today, if you add in the few deals earlier in the week it is probably more like 90 this week.
  7. With all of the trades that came in late I don't think this was a bad deadline at all. I do think it makes more sense to move it back a week or two though if you get too close to september callups I think teams will be less likely to trade as well.
  8. That horse is still twitching. You keep on beating that thing until it's a pulp! Let me ask you, are you satisfied with the rotation right now?? Is it division winning quality to you?? I'll hang up and listen to your answer The rotational piece you want means trading Hiura. There really isn't anything else in the system worth enough. I do not want to trade Hiura. Basically you are asking for something that isn't possible.
  9. Are you suggesting Tanner Roark was the solution? He really isn't very good either.
  10. If it is really Pomeranz that is just awful. I will have lost all faith in the team if that is true.
  11. Why imagine that lineup with an eye towards 2019 when it could be done right now ? OH, I wish, but Arcia's there. He's rapidly overtaking Jim Gantner as my all-time LEAST favorite Brewer. Same reason - an offensive black hole. You seem to have forgotten that Yuni B was a Brewer and actually started way too long for them.
  12. The Cubs being in 1st place most likely will have nothing at all to do with the MVP race assuming the Brewers make the playoffs. They do consider playoff vs non playoff, but not seeding. Braun beat Kemp out because of some big HR's down the stretch that got the Brewers in the playoffs for the first time in forever and his battle for the batting title that went all the way to the final day of the season. Part of it was also Kemp playing on the west coast so nobody seeing him, same reason Trout doesn't have more MVPs. That one was narrative driven, not team driven. The same way if Yelich beats Baez it is likely because of how hot he got late and the double cycle.
  13. There is an absolute super star in that body if he can put it all together. His hard hit % is absolutely elite, his K% is very acceptable in today's game. He is an elite baserunner. He rarely pops out which is pretty big. He is one of the best players in baseball at barreling the ball. As someone else mentioned though his one big flaw is he doesn't elevate the ball enough. Time will tell if he is an Eric Hosmer who just never gets over that flaw or he becomes a Daniel Murphy who figures it out.
