  1. Anything Bando did was awful. Melvin has made a number of brilliant trades: Sexson!!; Podsednik for El Caballo; El Caballo for Cordero. I liked the Davis trade at the time, and still do, because I cannot stand Davis's pitching style. The bad part was losing Eveland. When I was a kid, everybody ragged on the Brewers for signing Larry Hisle, but that was only after he got hurt (he was good during his one healthy year with the Brewers). I did not like how they treated Cooper at the end of his career. (edit: unnecessary punctuation --1992)
  2. I think some are forgetting that LaPorta might be somewhat of a gamble. He had injury problems in college. He is raking in AA, but he is in a very good lineup. He is not an automatic star, just a good prospect.
  3. TheCrew07; Although I have not seen Green play, from his size and what has been written about him, the Green-Cirillo comparison seems right on (gamer that has a good bat but lacks size or great physical tools). That being said, those types are extremely difficult to predict. Those guys are relatively easy to replace. (No offense,39) To get a chance and succeed, they have to find the exact perfect situation.
  4. As I have said before, Melvin is one of the best GM's in baseball (regardless of Ned's brainfarts).
  5. Bullox; The Farkey thing is hilarious. And perfect. That's pretty much what Milwaukee was like in October '82. Happy days are here again!
  6. Stevo; Relax man. As you watch Gamel continue to rake, Jeffress firing strikeouts, and Sabathia lead us to the playoffs, Laporta will become a distant, designated hitting memory. Gammons just made it official. The baseball gods are smilin' on us!
  7. Zach Jackson? Two things to say about that: Phewww, and Merry Christmas!!!!! How did TH get scooped by the Wisconsin State Journal? Too busy checking out Favre rumors?
  8. NY Post also had inside information that Braun was not elected a starter. Whatta poop-wipe gossip rag.
  9. Endaround, I repeat, this trade is Attanasio's baby. Way too big for Melvin to pull a fast one; Attanasio had to do more than approve it, he had to love it!
  10. 39, We love ya baby! I agree that you are a very cool asset to this board.
  11. Endaround; No way Melvin did this without Attanasio's approval. In fact, this trade seems out of character for Melvin. Many are speculating that this was mostly Attanasio's idea.
  12. Endaround, Melvin built a quality team in Texas, which the owner screwed up. After the owner scapegoated Melvin, the owner hired an all new and better GM that has traded away Edinson Volquez and John Danks, and generally set the organization back 10 years.
  13. On ESPN, question to Pete Gammons regarding the Brewers trade for Sabathia, and the fact that the Brewers will not likely sign Sabathia, "So they are going for it?" Gammons reply, "They are definitely going for it."
  14. I don't think Melvin woulda included Lucroy. Laporta, Green, and Brantley is my guess.
  15. Moving Lapota clears the path for Gamel to be Prince's understudy.
  16. Like usual, BBall tonight is talking up the Yankees and Bosox.
  17. I don't see Green being an all-star, and there are plenty of bodies to fill his spot. Good trade, nice risk, no matter how it turns out.
  18. Talent wise, the Cardinals are not far and away better. Their manager is, though.
  19. Give credit where it's due: Weeks has greatly improved in the field from last year to this year. If is average was where it should be, .260 to .270, we would not be questioning his defense.
  20. I don't think Hardy lacks range. Moving Hardy to second frees up short for Escobar, who is by all accounts, a defensive phenom. Hardy has great hands and good pop. He has and is showing that he can hit .270 with around 20 dings. Assuming Weeks still has value, trade him now or in the offseason for pitching. As to Dillon, it is also demoralizing to watch routine ground balls trickle into the outfield. No matter how you analyze it, Dillon is not the answer at second. Neither is Counsell. And I think everyone is tiring of Weeks, even those of us that love his potential.
  21. And, although I like Dillon's versatility, he is hitting .226. Somebody other than Weeks might take over second (pipe dream special: Hardy to second with Escobar at short. Next year....), I hope it ain't Marshall Dillon and Barney Fife Counsell.
  22. I don't care what the stats say; Dillon is a liability at 2nd. Although the poster above is correct in saying that Rickie has bobbled away some DP's, he has also made more than a handful of spectacular, wide ranging plays. He seems to make the average play, notwithstanding yesterday's mental goofup. Rickie needs to use a longer, heavier bat and get rid of that little league special with the microscopic sweet spot. And if he is gonna hit leadoff, he needs to run more when he reaches. (Yost!!!!!) Terrorize the basepaths, and he'll get more fastballs.
