  1. I have always thought he could improve his defense. I am worried about the offense. He has great power potential, but still does not make consistent solid contact (pop ups and strike outs). He will be an absolute monster.
  2. Peavy is worth more than four wins if it means getting Suppan out of the rotation. Addition of a good arm AND additional addition by subtraction. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. Endaround; Yeah, Kendall puts it in play by popping it up to right or shallow left. Weeks and Hall are the the strike out culprits, although they do their share of popping up. None of the three consistently hit line drives.
  4. Kendall has a long swing for a slap-hitter. And although he is good defensively, he ain't exactly Johnny Bench. I would like to see Rivera twice a week, at least. Heck, I would like to see Salome get a shot sooner rather than later. One of the reasons the Brewers rely so much on the long ball is that they lack even average production from the little guys like Ricky (last year) Hall, and Kendall (this year and last). Hit the ball and put it in play. Quit striking out and popping up.
  5. Argue all you want, but Hart and Hardy are interchangeable. Either will hit okay in the second, fifth or sixth spot. What the lineup really needs is a lefty that can hit tough right handers. (Ie., not Counsell). Probably makes sense to move Hart for a left-handed, power hitting outfielder. Or for pitching; then call up Gamel to play right.
  6. We are in trouble if Villy is a "star" player on our team. He gets way too much attention for a slightly better than average middle reliever or set-up man.
  7. Yep, when thinking of Teddy H., people seem to remember the injuries and the contract rather than how great he was for those three or so years. Even after that, he was a decent pitcher. Two other noteworthy home growns: Plesac and Eldred.
  8. Apple to rotten fruit!! I love it! In the last five years, or so, Kent was one of the most overrated players in the game, particulary given his ever shrinking lack of range. And by most accounts, he always had a truly rotten personality. Lawrie will not put up the O numbers, but he will have better range. Also, Lawrie seems like a nice, team oriented player, eh? If Lawrie stays at 2B and moves up quickly, that will be the end of Rickey, but also JJ, who will be moved for pitching. Lawrie is a big piece of the puzzle: 2011 infield: Gamel at 1B, Lawrie 2B, Escobar SS, Green 3B. Salome and Lucroy behind that plate. Braun, Cain and Hart in the OF. Prince and Hardy will have been traded for pitching........
  9. Any chance he is ready for the bigs by August?
  10. Suppan's ERA will be under 5 because Macha will have a quicker hook than Yost, and our bullpen is better this year than last. I hope.
  11. How has Jeffress looked this Spring?
  12. For a long while, I have said his defensive talents were a better fit for centerfield; focusing of course on his exceptional speed and quickness. But despite the ups and downs and the stubborn reluctance to go to into the best fit, Rickey is becoming at least adequate in the field at second. At the plate, he has good power for a middle infielder, and decent, if not good plate discipline. He runs the bases (not just steals) exceptionally well. Most agree he is miscast as a lead off hitter. One thing that bugs me is that when he swings, he just does not seem put the ball in play between the lines. He strikes out or pops up too much. With his skill set, on many occasions he should be putting the ball in play and making the other team get him out. He does not adjust his swing with two strikes; he either walks takes that vicious power hack. With his current approach, he should be batting seventh. At the plate, there is no other starter who can do better at lead off. In the field, it is too late to move him, unless he is going to become a utility player. Should not do that until he has tapped out on improvement. And remember, he is only 26 years old!! I expect him to have a solid year.
  13. Should have moved Rickey to center years ago, which would have best utilized his speed. His power would have also been a plus for a centerfielder. Too late to move him now.
  14. I agree with X llence: Bill fields much better than the metrics. With time, he will be a better than average fielding third baseman. It's his bat that worries me.....
  15. I like Nelson's medium-power lefty bat off the bench to pinch hit and spot start in Right.
  16. Gamel will likely be our next left fielder, with Braun moving to right. I think Hart could be moved at the break in a package for pitching.
  17. Gamel could also spot start in right.
  18. Edmonds seems like a good fit, except for price.
  19. Gamel (lefty) can play right if Hart is traded for pitching. Gillespie is a year away.
  20. Hart will have a good year. He will also be our best trade bait (combo of expendability and value) at the break. I would rather trade Hart than Escobar. I bet Dougie agrees.
  21. At the break: Hart and Parra for Peavey.
  22. Whatever. McClung has good stuff and good versatility; he can do everthing from spot-start games to occasionally close them. His control keeps him from being a good pitcher, so he will occasionally get blown up. So he could be a decent bullpen horse. Difelice is a one inning pitcher. If he goes long, he turns into a batting practice pitcher.
  23. Another example of Yost mismanagement: early last year, first or second start, Yost lets Sheets pitch into the ninth, even though the game was salted away. At the time I recognized it as a stupid move because of Sheets's fragility. So what if Sheets wants to stay in? Making decisions in the best interest of the team, even if individual players do not like the decisions, is what managers do! If not, what is the purpose of a manager? (edit: excessive punctuation)
