  1. I'm sorry that Bill Hall doesn't hit right-handed pitching very well - Is that what you meant?
  2. Menotti80, I don't know what's scarier (1) the amount of time you spent thinking and writing about this, or (2) the fact that as I read it, I found myself saying "OK, I see where he's going with this, I agree."
  3. OK, I'm modify my question. Have the Brewers ever sold out a non-cubs, non-opening day weekday game, in which Dave Bush was the projected starter?
  4. I think you are going to have to revise your projections - upward. I just tried to get tickets for Thursday's game and could only get standing room only tickets. Have the Brewers ever sold out a non-cubs, non-opening day weekday game?
  5. TPR, Wow . . . someone that actually admits that they were wrong - I'm impressed. Regardless of the error, I completely agree with what you are saying. To use another gambling analogy, it's time to roll the dice.
  6. Only an idiot hits on 15 when the dealer is showing a 6 - I'm not sure that this is the point you were trying to make.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  7. I do not believe that my previous post was too harsh on Prince. Prince understands (or Prince's agent understands) the rules of the baseball compensation game. I'm not issuing any judgment on whether the $60 million dollar offer was fair, or whether Prince should have rejected it - as Russ says, there is no way to know that from the information given. FWIW - I am still a big fan of Prince on the field, and I think that any criticism of his diet is ridiculous. However, how can anyone excuse Prince for complaining about the amount of money he will be making this year? If he wanted more money now, then he could have negotiated a long-term contract. Why should the Brewers pay him more than they are obligated to this year? If he has a bad year after he reaches arbitration is he going to pay his salary back? Would you give the Brewers organization a pass if, after Prince has a bad year, they publicly state that they were not satisfied with Prince's performance and would like some of their money back? If not, why would are you giving Prince a pass? I suspect, but do not know, that Prince was misled by his father - and that is really sad on a number of levels. But it doesn't excuse Prince from his actions in complaining about his salary this year.
  8. JoeHova, He has implied that he was disrespected. To complain about not making a few hundred thousand more this year, after turning down $60 million, is absolutely moronic and Prince should not get a pass on it. The way I see it - fine, turn down the $60 million but then play for the contract you signed and don't complain, especially publically. Prince knew (or should have known) that if he turned down the $60 million, he would not be getting a "bump" in the contract he signed. This combined with the IRS issues seem to show someone that has absolutely no clue how to manage money or handle contracts.
  9. I checked the Baseball Prospectus playoff odds after this lineup was released. The Brewers odds fell to 0.00% and there was an additional statement on the website that said "no team that has to resort to batting Craig Counsell (circa 2008) in the lead off spot has any chance of making the playoffs."
  10. This was in yesterday's paper, discussing Suppan's missed squeeze sign in Sunday's game: "Yost said he didn't consider an acknowledgement by the hitter mandatory but admitted, "We might have to review that. We've got some signs (the hitter can use)." So after Kendall missed the sign for the squeeze play earlier this year, they still didn't institute an acknowledgment sign. This is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. It would take five minutes in a team meeting to say "Hey guys when we signal for the squeeze, you need to acknowledge it." If Yost can't get this decision right, he shouldn't be managing a tee-ball team (That's pretty much my opinion, by the way).
  11. What did he say on the show?
  12. It's sad when your pitcher is your biggest power threat in the bottom third of the order.
  13. Sweeps - I have meant all of the posts that I have made on this topic in a humorous manner. Obviously, you have every right to like Mike Hunt. I may disagree with some of your points, but ultimately it's your opinion.
  14. Sweeps, What do you like - the stream of consciousness thought patterns, the random one sentence paragraphs or the way that he surprises you by following one paragraph with another paragraph that is almost completely unrelated to the prior paragraph? Speaking of "related," you don't happen to be related to Mike Hunt, do you?
  15. jhart, Thanks for the fix, I don't know how I overlooked that error. Russ, I thought about going back to his archives to add further support to my "formula" theory, but ultimately decided that it wasn't worth having to re-read anything that he had previously written.
  16. Hunt has become almost unreadable. His columns seem formulaic: 1. Come up with 4 to 5 references to pop culture, literary analogies or other nonsense; 2. Connect said references with a writing style that ranges from awful to mediocre; and 3. Insert conclusion that is almost entirely unsupported by writing. Lets take today's column: 1. Phil Jackson/Zen reference, Robert Frost, Mensa, price of gas and oatmeal, Dusty Baker 2. Writing style - this one speaks for itself 3. Inserts Baker quote saying "Everything is tomorrow." The original point of the column seemed to be how Hunt was superior to the lowly fans because he doesn't get too excited about wins and losses. This transitioned to "living in the moment." Which quite obviously leads to the inevitable conclusion "Everything is tomorrow." Let me conclude this post by stating my conclusion: I do not like reading Michael Hunt because he is a bad writer.
  17. What are the odds against Kapler, Braun, Fielder, Hart and Brayan (I didn't even know he knew how to single) hitting consecutive singles?
  18. Bill Hall hurt the team more than the fans that are booing him. There is absolutely no reason that he should have gone public with a trade request prior to talking to management about it. It lowers his trade value thereby hurting him and the team. I respect the things that Bill has done for the team - that respect extends to paying him $6 million dollars to play in a platoon this year. The fact that I respect his past history with the team has nothing to do with how I view his recent actions regarding a trade. The only situation in which I think it is acceptable to publically demand a trade is if Hall and his agent had approached management about it and management refused to consider it, otherwise it is a stupid move for a variety of reasons. Players have to understand that fans will hold them accountable for the actions of their agents. Booing is one way fans can show their displeasure. Personally I hope the booing was only for last night because no one should be booing Bill strictly on performance - his past actions have earned him a bit of a pass in that regard. However, if he continues with the ridicuous trade talks (who wants to pay him $6 million dollars) he should be booed.
  19. The reason Braun is thought of as arrogant is because he thinks that there is nothing he can't do with a bat in his hands. He's only arrogant if he's wrong; if he's right, it will be one of the things that makes him "great." Think of "great" players from other sports - Tiger, Kobe, Federer - every one of these players think that they are the best in their respective games. The only reason they aren't all lambasted for being arrogant, is that they have shown that they just might be right. Braun is not at that level yet, and he may never get there. But if he's going to have a chance at being truly great, he's going to need a certain amount of "arrogance."
  20. To answer your question - when they are mathmatically eliminated from the playoffs - using normal math, instead of Ned's math. What's the point of giving up hope? So you can be first on the Brewers aren't that good bandwagon?
  21. And That, how about, "like watching a bird attacking a snake on the ground, after watching a crocodile attack any catchable thing." It doesn't make any less sense than your post yesterday.
  22. I've heard of people that shouldn't post right after a loss . . . or while drinking . . . or any combination of the two, but I've never heard of someone that shouldn't post when they are watching Animal Planet. Oh well, something new everyday, right.
  23. This is one of those infamous cases of "addition by subtraction." I have one question . . . with the Brewers past history of bullpen and bench player use, why in the world wouldn't the Brewers DL Gagne? Are the Brewers so good that they've decided that they can win with one less player than everyone else? Is Ned such a genius that he doesn't need a full roster? Or has Doug evaluated the situation and decided that one more player is just one more thing to clutter Ned's already overextended mind? Worst case scenario - Gagne goes to the DL, gets better sooner than the 15 days and the Brewers are unable to use him - I'm pretty sure that the Brewers can find someone else to give up 2 runs before getting pulled in the ninth. Maybe the Brewers could bring up Turnbow - that way it would be like Gagne never left. Edit - I apologize, it apears that I had more than one question.
  24. And That . . . is one of the most confusing similes that I've ever read. Is Sheets the crocodile or the snake? I'm pretty sure that I'd either like to watch a crocodile attack anything, or a snake attacking a bird, rather than watch Dave Bush pitch.
  25. Barring a major move, it is time to seriously lower our expectations for this team. Looking at this objectively (not as a fan) how do you honestly argue that any team that has a rotation of 1.Sheets, 2. Bush, 3. Suppan, 4. McClung, 5.Parra has an above-average chance of playing in the post-season.
