This is again one of those stories that never should have happened. My best friend was killed by a drunk driver, so this hits home to me on a personal level. My wife and I spent some time in Ireland a year or so ago, and they had probably one of the most disturbing Public Service Announcements about the dangers of what they call "drink driving" that I've ever seen. The link is below, but I need to warn you that it is very graphic, but you'll think twice about drinking and driving after viewing it. Rickey

I've had numerous people come up to me over the past few years and tell me they wish they could sit in my seats for a game, well now is your chance to do just that. This is the second year I've done this, and based on last year's response we'll try this again this year. I'm going to have an open auction for my both of my seats to an upcoming Brewers game. There are however, a few rules that go along with sitting in these seats. First off, no foul language or upsetting of anyone sitting near you, secondly, no calling all of your friends and waving to them when you're on camera. Third, if you're not a Brewers fan don't bid on these seats, I don't want someone with a Pirates jersey sitting in these seats. If you can abide by these three rules you're free to bid on these seats. One more thing, this is a charity auction, with 100% of the proceeds being given to one of the charities listed below. So here is your chance to get a tax deduction, feel good, watch the Brewers, and then go home and see how you look eating peanuts and hot dogs on TV. There are a few things that need to be clear before I start this auction, they are: 1) Winning bidder will choose one of the three charities (listed below) that they want to give their money to. 2) Winning bidder must provide me with a phone number by the end of the auction so I can contact them to arrange the exchange of tickets and check. 3) Winning bidder will personally meet me to receive the tickets and will at that time provide me with a money order written out to one of the three charities. I will send the winning bidder a receipt from the charity so they can use that for the IRS. Please be sure you've got the funds to pay for the seats. I will have the winning bidder provide a money order to pay for the final amount of the winning bid. 4) The open auction will end on Saturday April 25th, at 10:00 pm, CDT, with the highest bid at that point declared the winner. This isn't eBay, so please don't wait until the last minute to submit your bid. 5) I will personally donate $200 to the other three charities that are not chosen so no one loses out. The three charities that I've decided will benefit from this auction are: 1. American Cancer Society 2. The MACC Fund 3. Make-A-Wish Foundation While I certainly understand that there are many more charities out there that are worthy of receiving a donation, these are the three that I've decided I'd like the proceeds of the sale of my tickets to benefit. In addition to the tickets the winning bidder will also receive passes to the Metavante Club, where they can go before, during or after the game to have a drink or some food. Somehow I have a feeling they'll go to the club before the game! The opening bid of the tickets will be $150 which is what I paid for these seats when I bought them from the Brewers, although the face value of the tickets is more than this. The seats are in Section 121, Row 4, Seats 9 & 10, you can put your left arm on the dugout sitting in my seat, and you can rest your beer on the dugout as well (of course it won't be up there long, the ushers will tell you to take it off). Should you have any questions about this auction, please feel free to contact me at: rickey35@gmail.com Thanks and good luck! Rickey Aka The Doorman

Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice elected to the HoF
rickey24 replied to And That's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
As a lifelong fan, I am so happy to see my boy Rickey Henderson get in on the first ballot to the Hall of Fame. Of course Rickey called it the "first round" of the HOF, so either way, congratulations Rickey!! I can't wait to hear that induction speech! Rickey -
Hey TracyThom- Yeah I did get both of my Pilots jerseys from M & N, although I think I got a discount when I purchased them, because I don't remember them being that expensive, but they weren't cheap. Their stuff is by far the best out there, but you have to pay for it. I would keep an eye on Ebay, because you can get a shirt that isn't made by them, that someone else is selling for less. Rickey

Folks, we have another winner! Congrats to the Portage Plumber (who I pray is not the guy in his avatar and will be wearing a shirt), and thanks to everyone for supporting this auction. Thanks to Brian for allowing me to do this, and I'm thankful of the great Brewer Nation for giving to great charities. We'll be doing this three or four times next year and once Spring Training rolls around I'll announce which games will be available. Rickey
-
SoCal- Thanks for the kind words, you can bet that next year I'll be doing this again, what I might do is announce early in the season which games I'm going to auction off, so that everyone can prepare to bid on the game that they really want. Sorry but I highly doubt I'll have any Cubs games available, and I hear the White Sox are coming next year as well, so those won't be available either. Thanks again for the great response to these tickets, I'm humbled and honored that we've been able to raise this much money for some great charities. We'll do it again next year, but in the meantime, we've got a good auction going right now with a little more than one week to go! Rickey

Thanks again to jwill535 for being the winner in the first charity auction for my seats. He did a great job from all the reports I received and he and his wife did a great job "subbing" for us on Friday night! Jwill535's check and my checks were sent off to the four charities last week, and I'm happy to see that three more charitites will benefit from this auction as well. Rickey

Honestly, I don't recall a game that the Brewers won in a blow out and I came away upset like the game tonight. What is the point of bringing him back out there after throwing 111 pitches when he's going to bat in the bottom of the 8th??? CC looked to me like he was done, he was getting fist bumps in the dugout, had his jacket on, and sitting down, when Ned came up to him, talked to him, and then CC takes off the jacket and bats. I just didn't understand it, why would you send him back out there when he has nothing to prove, and you can use Mota or someone else to get three lousy outs! If you could have seen Ned's reaction when he went back out there and struggled throwing 19 more pitches than he needed to, it was just stunning. I'll be curious to see how he bounces back in his next two starts after a game like this one, there was simply ZERO reasons for leaving him in. If the score was 3-0, would it have been Torres that was brought in? Well he was warming up in the bottom of the ninth when the bases were loaded.... Stunning. Rickey

Again, this is the second time I've done something like this, and will be the last one I do for the 2008 season, I will be doing this again next year thanks to the great response it has received. However, if you want to sit up close and personal, this is the last time for this season. The opening bid of the tickets will be $120 which is what I paid for these seats when I bought them from the Brewers, although the face value of the tickets is more than this. We have the winner of the first Doorman Charity Auction! A huge thank you to Brian and everyone at Brewersfan.net for the attention this auction received and an even bigger thank you to everyone who posted a bid, but especially jwill535 who will be sitting in my seats this Friday. Thanks to the great reception this received, I'll be posting another game shortly, it will be the last one for the 2008 season. Rickey aka The Doorman

Sure was, I got it as a gift from another Brewers fan on the first game of the Cubs v. Brewers series. He had to go down to the south side of Chicago to find one, so he bought three and gave me one. I had it the entire Cubs series, so needless to say it didn't see the light of day. But it sure looked good yesterday!

Francisco Cordero, Aren't We Glad He Isn't Here...
rickey24 replied to rickey24's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Yeah, but really the Brewers have been very good about getting guys that are on some other team's scrap pile, and make them into gems (Wickman, Leskanic, DeJean, Kolb, Turnbow, Cordero, Torres), where the Twins got Nathan from the Giants for AJ, the A's have also tried the Brewers approach. Before Street, the A's had used Billy Taylor, Issy, Koch, Foulke & Dotel all of which came to the A's at a discounted price and Billy Beane made them a star. I think the Brewers approach to closers is the right way to go about it, and I think it shows spending the big cash (Gagne) isn't always the right thing to do. Rickey -
I've had season tickets with a friend for a long, long time, and when MP opened, we sat nine rows behind the screen, but the next year a number of people dropped their season tickets (remember when only 5k would attend a non-give away game), so we moved to those seats, and have had them for the past seven years.

Francisco Cordero, Aren't We Glad He Isn't Here...
rickey24 posted a topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
While I haven't seen a topic on him in the threads (please feel free to lock this if it should be in an ongoing thread), but has anyone noticed what has taken place to our old friend Mr. Coco Cordero since the All-Star Break? Here are the numbers: Win - 0 Loss - 3 Saves 3/5 ERA 13.50 IP 7.1 Hits 16 R -11 HRA - 2 BB- 8 K - 8 Ratio - 3.29 Also, check out his home and road splits: You can clearly see that Mr. Coco isn't doing so well in Cincinnati, with an ERA a full run and a half higher than on the road. Also, his BB/K is 20/33, v. 11/22, while giving up 31 hits in only 30.1 innings pitched, he's also allowed 51 baserunners at home in those 30.1 innings of work. I know there was a lot of hand wringing about letting him go this off-season, but I for one thought it might have been the best move for the Brewers not to sign him, especially considering the kind of cash the Reds had to pay for him. I frankly knew that playing in Cincinnati he'd see the difference between Miller Park and Great American, and wonder why he left. You often wonder why teams don't improve from year to year, this is a good example, spending that kind of cash for a guy to close games for a team that is now in the basement of the NL Central. I'm sure the Reds could have spent that cash in other areas (let's not get into giving Corey Patterson the starting CF job out of ST over Jay Bruce). When I saw Doug Melvin this off season at the Winter Warm-Up, he was pretty upset that Cordero didn't give the club the chance to top the Reds offer, I think now however, he has to feel better when he sees the kinds of games that Cordero has had since the All-Star Break. Last night's game was typical of Cordero, falls in love with the slider, forgets his fastball, doesn't get a call, and it all falls apart. Remember some of those ugly Brewers losses last year when he had two outs, but just couldn't close the deal? Think Texas, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Chicago and they'll come rushing back. If you've got MLB.TV, check out these three games for a little entertainment: July 17 v. NY Mets July 21 v. San Diego August 8 v. Houston The last time Cordero was in town, I offered him $2 to come back to the Brewers, he told me he needed at least $4. So, after talking this over with management (my wife), I decided to offer him the extra cash and gave him $4, now I think I want my $4! Rickey -
Actually we were having an ongoing conversation all game long, it was in good fun. It actually started last year when I was cheering Turnbow's called third strike to Ramirez, saying that was beautiful, he looked up and said that wasn't beautiful that was ugly. I said come on Lou, you have to admit that was pretty sweet. He said beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Well at the start of the series he turned around around said hello, and then we started talking. At one point he asked my wife if she was praying, she said no, and he said well I am! That was in the 9th with Lee up to bat against Torres. He also turned around a couple of times and pretended to bite his nails. He also was talking to me about Braun's homer. We just had a friendly conversation for all four games, with him usually shooting me a look after a good or bad play. When he took out Eyre in the 9th inning of Thursday's game, my wife asked him what is he doing, it was out of hand, and he came up and told us that Marshall hadn't worked in five days and needed the work. He was pretty cool, he even tossed me a foul ball from Prince, and after each game he said he'd see us tomorrow. After Thursday's game, he said we'll see you in September, should be a great race! Classy guy. Now, the Cubs fans around us? Not so much. In fact, I'll go on to say that they were the worst fans I've ever had to sit through a game with. Which is why when they choke it will be that much more entertaining. Rickey

Sorry, I should have put that info in the original post, which I will go ahead and edit now. The seats are right behind the visitor's dugout, in Section 121, Row 4, Seats 9 & 10, you'll be able to put your left arm on the dugout, but just don't set your beer on the dugout, or Kenny the usher will tell you to take it off!
