  1. This is starting soon. Are the Brewers fielding a team? If so, who's on it? I found info on KC's team, but nothing on the Brewers.
  2. Is Cleveland's choice based on if the Brewers make the playoffs or how far they go? For instance, if they don't get to the playoffs they can pull back one of the choices or something like that? I don't mean they wouldn't get anyone.
  3. Play Ray Durham at 2B. Revert to the platoon at 3B. Trade for Darin Erstad to platoon in CF with Cameron and play 1B in late innings in place of Prince. Move Sup to the bullpen; if not piggy back McClung and Bush - 4 or 5 innings each. Don't have those two sit nine days between pitching assigments. Need more offensive production. You can't have CF-2B-3B hitting below .240 plus the pitcher's spot, with Kendall around .250. Just isn't enough to produce. It puts too much pressure on our young stars, who are showing it at times. This is their first heads'-up match for first place in the majors.
  4. Since this is the first year in many that the hand (broken hamate bone) is not bothering Nelson. I wouldn't dismiss his good year as simply "peaking". If they're smart, they'll keep him until they can see what he can do at the MLB level or at least get something useful for him in a trade.
  5. Gagne did great in the 8th. Threw only a handful of pitches and got people out ridiculously easily. The way I see it, Yost pulled Gagne to make him feel good about his success without risking failure. He manages too much for tomorrow and the next day, etc. In situations like this he should stick to winning games he can today.
  6. I would expect WVA to start Eric Fryer as the regular C, despite the pecking order when he came up. He's shown some hitting ability and he's reportedly a good catcher. As a 10th draft pick, he probably prevails over Uly or Anderson. I expect Anderson might see some time back in the OF where he started.
  7. I would expect two or three promotions at "mid-season" of AA even though more might be ready. Since mostly position players are involved, I hope they promote simply based on readiness for AAA and availability of starting positions there. Frankly, there are few at AAA that I wouldn't replace with a quality prospect. Their AAA guys are being trained primarily as possible major league utility players. I think a number of the Huntsville hitters are ready for the challenge. Under no circumstances would I hold a player in AA because of anticipated nonavailability in Milwaukee for a year or two. Get them to AAA. Its better to stay there at the highest possible challenge than to hold them back arbitrarily. As to pitchers, while they could use starters, nobody's outstanding at AA. Therefore, openings at AAA are probably the key. Hammond among the starters comes to mind because he's been in AA awhile, but he's not an automatic. He seems back on track after a bad partial-2007 season. Aguilar could maybe be advanced to AAA for a look-see in August, but there's no rush. Ryan certainly merits consideration, too. Hinton would be another possibility.
  8. Unfortunately, to make room for Fielder, we traded a quality every day hitter in Lyle Overby for three pigs in a poke unless Zach Jackson comes through. We had to move him, but so much for these three"prospects." I think we can now see why we had no trades of our "surplus" starting pitching in the winter. Nobody outside the Brewer organization thought enough of Bush, Vargas or Capuano to offer or anything of value. It seems to me that Bush noticeably drops his arm a few degrees, his wrist gets underneath, and his pitches get high and loop in and down. My recollection is that Bob McClure had the same problem. However, he made a surprisingly long career as a situational lefty. No such role for Bush.
