  1. now it is 33 strikes in 44 pitches! He did walk one but he struck out the side. A lot of first pitch strikes. If he can keep this going this will be great. It is unfortunate that he has thrown so many pitches but it sounds like they are all quality ones. Hopefully be can get 5 or 6 innings in tonight.
  2. Wow. Very nice first inning by Rogers. 16 pitches and 12 for strikes. He seems to be throwing a lot of strikes in his past three outings. Maybe this is a sign of great things to come!
  3. As a note for Rogers. His arm is fine it was a blister that broke open in during the 5th inning that led to his early departure from the game.
  4. It was a very nice outing by Rogers. The walks were still not great but it sounded like a lot of pitches were very close. The commentators kept making the comment that "that pitch could not have missed by much". Great bounce back non the less. I mean if you think of it he allowed 5 base runners in 5 innings, 1 hit by pitch, 1 single and 3 walks. Even though there was three walks only one was what I would call a bad walk and that was the lead off hitter in the 3rd inning. One of the other walk was when the #2 hitter was up and he had a runner on second (i think that guy was hitting above .300) and there was two outs. I have no problems with walks like that.
  5. Well you can't groove every pitch. You need to hit spots. All I am saying is that he did a nice job tonight. He had 5 base runners in 4.2 innings. Walks or hits that is bot bad at the AA level. I agree that you can not walk guys when it is not necessary. You are right on that Crew. However should that be what the focus is right now? He dominated the hitters. If anything I think that is Mark has learned how to pitch rather than over powering hitters like he used to do. Like I said before he had 5 base runners for the game... he pitched 4.2 innings. I am focusing on the fact that he only gave up one hit. That is very good. Until you go and see a game hold back on your criticism.
  6. You are not hearing my point, It is MiLB umpires. I have watched Mark pitch and seen these same umpires flinch at every pitch thrown. I get that walks are not good. That is obvious. I am not stupid...I pitched for many years. My point is that the pitches could have been very borderline strikes, I said that before, you do not know how close they are, and for that matter neither do I . The box score and the radio is not the only thing to go by. Mark will be fine. He is very tough to hit and the control is their. In fact that pass ball... it was a curveball that the catcher could not handle it ( I have a very reliable source at the game).
  7. you guys get so wound up about a few walks. Honestly who cares. A few walks don't really hurt... he gave up one hit and one run!. That should be the focus. Plus you are seeing minor league umpires. I mean seriously, there is a reason that they are in the minor league. They might as well be high school umpires that are trying to make a name for themselves (we have all seen those guys). Focus on the fact that he only gave up one hit. Don't worry so much about the a couple of walks. I mean seriously who knows if they were way off or borderline strikes. People just analyze the box score and assume the worst. People should be giving him a congrats that is a very good outing. Espeacially for the first night out. My prediction is that Rogers shreds up that league and gets a call up this year. I personally am very impressed.
  8. Mark is up to 85 pitches (that was his last pitching start in an intersquad game in Arizona) . He should be throwing at least 5 tonight.
  9. It is too bad that we can't get pictures like those from the Wisconsin game for all of our minor league teams. Those came out great!
  10. The reason why Rogers was pulled was not due to anything other than the fact they wanted to keep him throwing competitively on the mound before the playoffs start. No need to be alarmed I spoke with him last night and he feels great and they just wanted him to get some live bullpen work in. You know keep him fresh.
  11. Rogers pitch count is still only 60. The other night when he went 5 innings to get his first win (congrats by the way, he earned it) he threw 60 pitches right on the dot. As far as seeing what he can do in the big leagues. I agree with everybody else, there really is no reason for it. He has had a pain free year why not let him build off of it. With that said I do think that he would be up for the challenge and do very well given the opportunity. He has shown everyone that he is a dominant pitcher with big league stuff. I would personally like to see him get a call up at some point next year after pitching in AA for a little while. Let him get a few more innings under his belt, and a little more confidence.
  12. He was injured due to a change in mechanics and arm slot. Not every pitcher throws the same. He was not injured due to innings. Now he and the organization have reached a happy medium where they are both happy. His arm is strong, he feels great, he is stronger than he has ever been both physically and mentally. Plenty of pitchers have had surgery and came back strong, especially starting pitchers. I can certainly understand why people could feel this way not knowing Mark's strengths and progress throughout this post surgery. I on the other hand do. I am just saying a prediction and you can feel free to quote me on it later. He will be a very successful starter in the Majors. They just need to let him throw. I also wanted to make a correction to a previous post I had made. I was incorrect in saying that his pitch count is at 70 it is only at 60. I apologize for this misunderstanding but I wanted to make everyone aware that he has become much more economical with his pitch count.
  13. You guys need to listen to me. I have said it all along Mark is a legitimate starter. He will get stronger as he gets deeper into the games. I have watched Mark pitch since he was 8 years old in Harpswell Maine as Bambino. The first two innings of a game were always when he would find himself. The year Mark was drafted he was sold on on one start in Augusta Maine where he went 10 innings throwing a total of 127 pitches giving up 1 hit and his highest recorded velocities (101mph and 102mph) were in the 9th and 10th innings. I see all over this message board that people see him as a reliever. That would be the biggest waste for a kid with the talent that Mark has. You guys have not seen him work deep into a game. You do not what type of competitor he is. In fact you have only seen or heard of three pitches. A fastball, slider and change up. Wait until he breaks out the curveball. That is his best pitch. It is a 12 to 6 hammer that will be his strike out pitch. So as far as seeing the order through a few times I can almost guarantee that it will not be an issue. I guess my point is that he is a starter, he is legitimate, and he is going to be in the major leagues. Just wait until deep into some games you will all see that he is a stud.
  14. Looks like Rogers has it down again tonight. 4 k's, no walks, and no hits. The pitch count is starting to get annoying. They need to let the boy throw. A start like that and he can not get the win. That drives me crazy!
  15. I do agree with this statement. Nobody wants to see a pitcher who walks a ton of guys. However this stat for Mark (Post surgery that is) should be irrelevant up to this point. When you have a pitcher stepping on the mound every 5 to 8 days (and there has been plenty of times that start to start dates for Mark have been longer than 5 days due to rain outs) and only throwing 30 to 40 pitches, how can you expect him to be in complete control of all of his pitches? The answer is you can't. Professioanl or not nobody can only throw 30 to 40 pitches in a game situation on average every 6.5 days and expect to have complete control. Now that his pitch count is up to 70 I think that this stat comes into play more. He should start to get a better feel for being on the mound again and hopefully if the weather in Florida cooperates a more regular resting period so he can stay in a groove. With that said I think that we will see Mark cut way down on his walks, his velocity increase (he was 95-98 last night), and we will see that his best innings will be from the 4th to 7th. I think that he already is a VERY LEGITIMATE prospect.
  16. They did up his pitch count. It is now at 70 and all I can say is that it is about time (He can finally get the opportunity to get settled into a game). I think that we are all finally going to see what Mark can really do.
  17. Just thought that I would let people know about the velocity that Rogers showed last night. He was sitting 97 to 99 mph. That my friends is GAS!!!!! It is great to see where he is at right now. Hopefully the brass of the organization let him go a little more than the new "50 pitch count" here in the near future. He has been telling me his arm feels great, I say let him go a little deeper into some of these games. Especially if he is telling you he feels good.
  18. I must say that the walks for Rogers do not really trouble me. They are down a great deal since a his first stint a few years ago with the Mantatees. The other reason why I think they are not that big of a deal is because he is getting a lot more ground balls than he ever has (ground balls = double plays). It sounds to me like Mark has learned to pitch and not rely so much one that overpowering fastball he has (which topped out at 98 mph today). I think that we are seeing a new side to a young pitcher that is has a lot of talent and to me that is very exciting. I also must add that it IS crazy that the ERA's are so low. Pitch count or not it is an impressive thing having that many pitchers with such low ERA's at any level of baseball. Congrats to all of them.
  19. Congrats to Mark! Sounds like he has got it back. Walks down, K's up. That is what we all like to see! I can't wait until he hits the mound again.
