  1. Fixed it for you! If you can afford to purchase a franchise, you can afford to pay any player. Most owners choose not to take big risks in terms of losing money. It’s still a choice.
  2. The Padres will be fun to watch this year. They are a team on the rise. It was a great signing!!! Tatis Jr is the most talented Shortstop since Alex Rodriguez. That left side of the infield may not be quite Brooks Robinson & Mark Belanger but it’s one of the best defensive 3B/SS combos ever. I’ll probably end up watching more Padres games than Brewers games this year, especially if the Brewers play as boring a style of Baseball as they did last year. (Will definitely tune in to watch Woodruff & Burnes pitch though)
  3. In 110 career plate appearances, Luis Urias is hitting .337/.373/.500 vs LHP. We need to see a larger sample size, but the question isn’t “can he hit MLB pitching?” It’s can he be more than a super utility platoon guy?
  4. Quite possibly the “sentence of the year” so far at Brewerfan! I mean hey, Woodruff etc can throw mid 90’s, maybe the cut off man would work! I like the signing. I don’t like the signing all that much if the Brewers don’t do much else. Thinking the $18 million could be allocated towards a bigger need. Is this Stearns zigging when we expect him to zag? Is Keston going to be traded? Did Stearns’ computer say that a Gold Glove 2B will make the pitching staff much better? I do look forward to Arcia and Wong turning 2 together.
  5. It’s good. It’s old. Lots of stereotypes in it. Cobb wasn’t a racist, there’s a great newer book out that has well documented research that refutes that. There is a ton of bias towards the end, against Bonds and in favor of Griffey Jr for instance. In general it is pretty good
  6. There is always a chance, however slim, that surgery could effectively end a player’s career. Not everyone bounces back 100% from any surgery. Players want to avoid surgeries, and heal up naturally, if at all possible.
  7. Garcia’s offensive numbers in 2020 were down in part because of a smaller sample size/randomness and in part because he played every day CF which was tougher on his legs. He played 44 games in Center. The last time that happened was in 2012 playing in AA Ball for Erie. (He was 21 years old in 2012). Agree he could bounce back well. Schwarber is, to me, relatively overrated but it’s not a bad signing by the Nationals.
  8. I think there is a chance, perhaps not a good chance but still a possibility, that the Brewers sign a big name free agent to a one year deal.
  9. Jrue looks great. They need one more big man who can dominate the boards and defensively. Lopez ain’t it.
  10. so then, we can be assured that most of his time will be spent in the OF, right? Batting cleanup, at DH, in Game 7 of the 2021 NLCS...Tim Lopes. The Brewers are gonna trade him?
  11. Yes. Certainly not a significant free agent. I predict our payroll will be below $100 million to start the season. Possibly closer to $85-90 million.
  12. I wonder if Mark can be convinced to do a Cain plus money trade for a real prospect?
  13. The Brewers will not be signing Santana, or any other free agent above $2-$3 Million. Signings like Vogelbach are the Brewers best hope at fielding a competitive team, as well as trades. The most likely trade scenarios are players like Hader or Garcia for prospects, or Cain plus money for prospects. The chances of a significant trade that helps the MLB roster is slim The Brewers need core players like Yelich & Hiura to return to their top form, and younger players like Urias to take the next step. And they need Burnes, Woodruff, Williams etc to stay healthy. A lot “ifs” involved. So, yes, signing Vogelbach makes sense. Mark is unlikely to budge on his plan to significantly decrease the budget. Maybe a “wait and see” on bringing in more expensive players at the trade deadline, if there is a full season, and if fans can attend.
  14. As a Brewer fan am I supposed to root for Mark to not lose money? “Go Mark Go!” Bottom line, baby! I’m asking that sincerely, by the way.
