    Exactly what I had hoped to see last night, at home to the dregs of the B1G. It was a complete game. Every single player looked locked in from the moment they stepped onto the floor, to the moment they stepped off. I was particularly impressed with their defensive intensity. They looked like they were playing defense for fun and with pride. Blackwell played as I've expected him to play all season. They handled the chaos of the Huskies' 1-3-1 with aplomb. After the game, Jordan Cornette* said the Badgers were a "two-seed," and wondered aloud if the Badgers were the team to end the B1G's National Title drought. Both me and Josh Pastner did a double-take with that hot-take, but I won't deny that the Badger's offense is deep, varied, balanced, and efficient. They should be able to put up a good point total in any game they play. Their defense is really good. If the Badgers get a favorable draw or two in the tournament, they could make it to the title game, IMO. *By the way, I've been pleased with Peacock this season. I like Cornette and Pastner. Although, it's also true that announcers sound a lot better when the Badgers are good.

    Crowl straight up turtled up. He had a bad turnover or something, and his head sagged. Both he and Winter had wide-open looks from 3 that they passed up. Gotta get Bittle out of the paint.

    I needed some time before ranting about the Oregon loss. It looks like everyone else saw the same thing I did. Around the 8:00 mark remaining, one could SEE the Badger body language change. I suspect Gard had told them something in a timeout that was preparing their minds for end-of-game tactics, and they all collectively relaxed, and they couldn't drum up the adrenaline they needed to finish a tight game. Yes, this was about the same time when Altman started pressing, and I think Altman is a first-rate coach, but the Badgers have handled defensive pressure all season. The Oregon pressure wasn't special. The team plays quickly now. Quick, crisp cutting, moving, screening. Aggressive dribble-drives, aggressive shot selection. When the team relaxed, the machine sputters. Lazy passing/receiving results in turnovers. Lazy shot selection with lazy legs results in missed shots. I DO suspect, however, that this may be the last loss they have for a while. Or, at least, the last time this season we see them throw a game away. They will be locked in the rest of the season.

    New to the thread... Ghosts is funny. My wife and I watched it in its entirety in about a week and a half. Fans of that should check out The Decameron. Similarly driven by funny characters in a ridiculous setting. I think I actually preferred The Decameron. Watched the rom-dramedy from down-undah, "Colin from Accounts". Excellent show. Interesting that it was a husband/wife duo who created it, wrote every episode, and starred in it. Their chemistry is palpable. Loved Vice Principals, hilarious.

    I think there aren't enough of us reading the articles and quotes, with grains of salt, instead of just building off of headlines and commenting on comments. Frelick was quoted as saying he was reporting about 7 pounds heavier than at this point last season, and that in the offseason he added, "...a ton of muscle". The "25 pounds of muscle," was purely added by the authors/headline writers. Not Frelick.

    This comment intrigued me. I wonder if there was a weird way to do designated players. Perhaps 2 or 3 roster spots, the salaries of which are specifically paid through shared revenue. Almost like two separate buckets of payroll. One supplied by the team, and another bucket of pure, 100% shared revenue. It would act a little bit like the NBA's system of max contracts. Each team would have a couple of slots for designated superstars. I presume the players would like it, as being a designated superstar, or Captain, perhaps, would naturally come with more exposure/marketing opportunities. It would also provide a level of transparency for owners that are often accused of pocketing shared revenue.

    If they keep shooting free throws at 75% like in recent games, they won't break the all-time record! They've been cleaning up a lot of stuff as games go on, which is great to see. They are not only growing into games, but you can sense they are starting to grow into having a cockiness about themselves as individuals, and as a collective. They are building and growing toward March. Guys are getting better. Winter, in particular, is reminding me of sophomore season Kaminsky. What's also true is that what Tonje has been doing the last four or five games is unsustainable. He's been spectacular of late. As much as I'm quite happy he's hitting every shot, part of me wants to see them continue to find the open man, because all of the guys can hit shots.

    I get that this is kind of how things operate, but I don't understand resetting the buyout.

    This may be factual, and as OldSchoolSnapper acknowledges, prices go up over time. However, there is also truth that sporting events have outpriced many fans well beyond the rate of inflation (over the last 30 years). I can acknowledge that demand for consuming sports has skyrocketed in my lifetime, and not blame MLB for making money off of this demand, and at the same time lament that once upon a time, one could afford to take in four or five games a season, now they are fortunate to get to one or two. It's like discussions of rent control. Many of us appreciate capitalism AND appreciate the challenges of a fixed income.

    I wonder if MA was merely referring to roster spots, rather than specific positions. I recognize that he says, "...maybe 3rd, but we want to give Tyler Black a shot, and Ollie Dunn, and Ortiz can slide over..." but in the larger context of the prompt of roster additions, it's possible that he's basically saying that there's no room to add a 3rd baseman, because their roster spots are filled with other infielders. I'm guessing he's relaying what he's heard from the front office. Not necessarily verbatim. Or, perhaps the Brewers didn't play him at 3rd because they were comfortable with him there, and wanted to expand his repertoire. I guess time will tell.

    As teams continue to try to maximize utility, like playing Mookie Betts at shortstop, I suspect that those prospects with no definable "position," but with "utility," may end up being valued more highly than they once were, and the term may become less of an epithet.

    Will this end up being the best shooting Badger team of our lives? It is the best eFG% team in the T-Rank era, including the F4 teams. Although the landscape of college basketball has changed, so every team is shooting better than they used to. Makes me feel like I haven't been appreciating them enough. In the early days of the season, I was pretty concerned about the lack of beef in the middle. But those concerns have been buried under this shooting barrage. I'm a little surprised that they're only 29th in the country in eFG% (although 8th vs. quad 2 or better teams).

    The article states that he finished last season at 167 pounds. His listed weight is 185, and the article says he weighed in at 189 this week. It's not so much that he gained 25 pounds, as much as last season he LOST 18 pounds throughout the season. Edit to add... it will be disappointing if any of our guys under the age of say, 27 AREN'T in the best shape of their life, LOL.

    The Badgers have a pretty good run of success with scoring guards (Davis, Storr, Blackwell, Max, Tonje), three of which were transfers. They have a lot to sell to recruits. If Gard goes on to win yet another title, and B1G Coach of the Year award. Will he still be on the hot seat? Or does he still not recruit well enough?

    Well, let's face it. I will be nervous about every game from here on out. Badgers have a legit shot at the regular season title, and have a chance at a top-3 seed (the only seeds that matter to me, as you get to avoid having to face 1-seeds until deeper in the tournament). There really shouldn't be any trap games at this point in the season. I'm worried about Penn State senior day, though.

    There's not much one can say after scoring 94 in Mackey Arena. A great win. Badgers backcourt just abused Purdue's the whole game. Without a giant in the middle of the paint, Purdue is susceptible to the dribble-drive. I've missed a lot of Purdue games this season. When I saw them in November, it was hard for me to see much more than a good team; a 4 or 5-seed type of team. But I figured that I must be missing something when I see them at the top of the B1G, and top-10 in T-Rank. But I think the Badgers exposed a lot of their weaknesses. Namely, a lack of size and a lack of depth. It's natural to think teams that beat your team are good, so I just figured Illinois and Michigan were the top two teams in a deep B1G. I thought the Badgers were in that 3rd tier with about 5 or 6 other teams. But now I think it is Wisconsin, Purdue, Michigan, Michigan State all on the same tier (4-seed type of team), with Maryland and UCLA right behind them. Just like it's wise to move on quickly after a quirky loss, the Badgers need to refocus after that win. Fortunately, Illinois at home probably isn't a trap game.

    This is a fun fan site, so I appreciate the exercise (earlier I graded the offseason as a D+), but there's a lot that we don't know. Sometimes it's the moves they didn't make, that work out for the best. Maybe every trade deal involved Jesus Made. Maybe FAs don't like Milwaukee, and will never play here. It's possible that Arnold deserves credit for being patient and disciplined instead of making moves for moves sake. I'm with all the others that question not having a backup plan for Dunn. I like Durbin on the roster, but I would really like a left-handed hitter to pair with him (and Ortiz). I think the infield could be a real strength if they platoon a lot of ABs throughout a game. I fear that there are no guys to plug holes if craters develop in the lineup.

    There's still PLENTY of time to turn Frelick into a third baseman! In fact, I hope he starts there, with Perkins in CF!

    Professional sports contracts have been boggling minds for a long time now, and I realize that there are guys with bigger paydays, or similar injury-issues. But the Rendon deal, for me, really really blows my mind. A quarter of a BILLION dollars. Wow.
