  1. Played some CF, too... Locally Sourced Arizona Fall League Notes: Tre’ Morgan’s Skills, Caleb Durbin Branches Out | FanGraphs Baseball Considering the one year remaining on Cortes, maybe they flip him for someone else? I like him and all, and presuming health, he probably pitches well enough for a QO, but I dunno. Seems like they could flip him for a guy with more club control, too.
  2. You forgot to write, "World Series here we come!"
  3. 3540 rpms?? Really? I'm dubious.
  4. Hmmm... that's interesting to me. And that's from McCalvy, the Brewers guy, not from some rumor-mongering Yankees beat writer. I, too, am glad they didn't get Crochet. I just am fearful he's a flash-in-the-pan. I would much prefer seeing them trade prospects for a hitter.
  5. We need more of this around here. In seriousness, though, I too, would like to have Arenado on the Brewers.
  6. I think they'll do something akin to what they did with Haase last season. Sign a vet to a minor league contract with an invite to Spring Training. The Brewers kind of operate like this with a lot of positions. You can never have enough catchers. The only reason the Brewers had 3 catchers for much of the season is because Haase vastly outperformed expectations, making his control for 2025 quite valuable.
  7. I think the Brewers would be silly not to look into it based on divisional rivalry -- and I don't often say that, particularly with the hated Cardinals. But I just don't think the Cardinals are going to get a good prospect from anyone, unless they take on most of the salary, and even then. I don't think the Brewers are desperate, but I sure am getting there every time I remember Willy hit 30 bombs last season. Arenado was a league-average hitter, and still a positive on defense. The Brewers are dying for that profile.
  8. I roll my eyes at it, but whatever, the union wanted it as an anti-tanking measure, the league thought they could use it to create an offseason story. Win-win for them, and teams still need to do their homework so they don't screw it up. It doesn't bother me that much.
  9. Sounds like the portal is trecherous. I'll see myself out.
  10. I agree with all your points. Crowl was much better despite the lack of boards. It probably means he was actually blocking out his man, waiting for one of the guards to come get it. Yeah, I don't actually mind home cookin' --- but we better get that treatment at home, too! Janicki continues to impress me. I keep waiting for him to just have a lousy game, but he doesn't. He's got moxie, just enough athleticism, and can both shoot and handle. He's a player. After a couple of sleeps, I'm over the loss. Illinois, before the Badger game, was my pick to win the league. Badgers beat the spread. Illinois had to play great to beat the Badgers, who didn't play great. I mean, this is the B1G were talking about. Road wins are to be cherished. (But dad-gummit, that Michigan loss at home!!)
  11. If you had to put $100 down on a bet of whether or not Soto will opt out after 5 seasons, what would you bet? I would bet... no.
  12. Right. This is why in my uneducated opinion, the mid-level players and the mid-level teams could team up to bargain. There IS a hypothetical salary structure that could benefit the players AND competitive balance, I just don't know what it would be. Better compensation for minor leaguers and 40-man fodder was a good place to start. Mid-tier FAs, though, are problematic. But that has more to do with the ROI for teams signing them. Often times, AAAA-guys will end up performing just as well.
  13. Switch-tosser!
  14. Yeah, I tried looking for that and couldn't find anything for some reason. I suspected a new feature that demands my signing up for X in order to see non-embedded tweets.
  15. Yeah, I don't disagree. I was merely trying to logic a reason why the Orioles perhaps wouldn't spend more now. I'm loathe to jump to the cheap owners being cheap rationale.
  16. Carlos Correa was awesome last year when healthy. The Twins won't have any trouble finding another team to take all, or nearly all of the contract. The Yankees come to mind. Or Houston, if they don't sign Bregman, or a number of other teams.
  17. Kind of cynical, Jim! The way I understand it is that Euros can't do NIL, because they don't have green cards (which is why the Badgers are going that direction with recruiting). Jakucionus looks every part the Dalton Knecht of 2025 to me. He was pretty incredible. I thought Illinois played great, so a 6-point road loss to Illinois wasn't too painful. It was annoying, though, that every time the Badgers made a run, the announcers credited Illinois "letting them back in the ballgame, just like the Northwestern game," essentially denying any credit to the number 20 team in the country, or a really tough Northwestern team. I was also annoyed by the officiating (so sue me!). Blackwell had 4 FTAs, and Tonje had 2. That's simply BS, with the amount of times they drove the lane, and the comparative fouls being called on the other end. It neutered the Badgers offense.
  18. Isaac Collins is also on the 40-man. He played 10 games at 3rd last season. According to @Joseph Zarr, he was cromulent defensively.
  19. Your general point is a good one. If you are the O's, aren't you thinking, "We don't need Soto, we should simply resign Santander and Burnes." That would be a perfectly excellent offseason. I suppose they may be looking at big numbers for their superstars in upcoming seasons, and they don't want to tie up payroll in Burnes.
  20. What's the "(cont'd.)" part?
  21. My first thought was... the White Sox leaked this rumor to drive up the prospect price from other teams. The Brewers have the quality and quantity of prospects the Sox would like in return. This rumor would put pressure on Boston to offer up more of both quantity/quality to get Crochet. My 2nd thought was... maybe a 3-way deal with Dodgers... Brewers get Crochet Dodgers get Devin Williams and Filippo Di Turi White Sox get Daulton Rushing, Tyler Black, and Luis Lara In this scenario, the Brewers are willing to trade from depth, if not quality, only have to give up 3 decent prospects, rather than dip into their better prospects to procure Crochet. The Dodgers get something back for giving up 1 premium prospect. The White Sox get 1 premium prospect, one MLB ready bat, and a sure-fire CF prospect. It seems like maybe the Dodgers are giving up too much in this hypothetical. But the idea of flipping Devin for more prospects in order to get Crochet, I think, seems plausible.
  22. I was actually thinking about Arenado today, and I think a trade could work if the Brewers sent back prospects, but why would they want Hoskins?
  23. I don't know that I have any questions, but boy, oh boy, that roster is chock-full of legitimate, though unranked prospects. There's like a dozen that very well could be in the BF list by this time next year with another strong season.
  24. Exactly. I don't know why I care, but the idea that the Twins fans have that recent ownership never spent in FA is pure fallacy. One thing about the O's and other teams is that they decided to go young. ANY time a team has a young roster, it's going to spend less in free agency, and have a lower payroll.
  25. This has been a commonly repeated belief, but as of yet, I don't believe we actually know how profitable owning a team is -- particularly with a terrible stadium. Do you have a source for this belief that cheap owners are profiting at a percentage beyond that of any of the other owners?
