  1. I had the same thought. Do people think it is wiser to use Hader in the 9th inning of a tie game or the 10th? His strikeout prowless is extra valuable with a runner starting on second base, but if you don't use him in the 9th in a tie game, he might not get the chance. I can see both ways. What do others think?
  2. Couple points based on recent posts. Cj Cron is playing in Coors so remember when extrapolating his numbers. Of course he would still look good in a brewers uniform right now, but numbers would be lower. We CANNOT afford to have elite pitching, defense, and offense. Whether it be payroll or draft capital. Stearns is valuing what is less sexy, but tends to win more. One of the costs is that it is worse entertainment. We are emulating past small market successes like the rays, A's, and royals. When those teams were good, they couldn't afford to sign mashers. Stearns knows this is the most likely path to a championship.
  3. It is comments like these that I am on this forum. Well done!
  4. What is interesting is a lot of elite defenders with those fast twitch muscles develop as good hitters over time. A couple that come to mind is andrelton simmons, arenado, Yadier molina, and Baez. That is a wide batch, but I remember all those elite defenders starting off slowly with the bat and progressing slowly with Arenado being the clear best of the bunch. A lot of the raw talent that helps someone defensively are needed for offense.
  5. I'm not too involved in the defensive metrics, but I would think the opposite. Since Arcia is usually shifted to the most likely spot the ball is hit, I would think a defensive wizard would be more important in today's game. But like you said, people made more contact in the past so maybe it all evens out. One other point I'd like to make is someone has to hit 8th. While we would all love mashers up and down the lineup, we have an obvious hitter to fall on the sword of the #8 spot. Whatever peoples' thoughts are of Arcia, he fits this current team really well. We lack fielding and have great hitting. He helps our weakness and pulls from our strength.
  6. What gets me is the argument that people are wasting time on small things when there are bigger problems to fix. Small problems are easier to fix and often why they are fixed first. It's alot easier to wake up and do the dishes than solve world hunger. It doesn't negate that bigger problems are still on the radar, it's just that they are more complex to solve. I agree, this wasn't a big issue for me personally, but I see the point on changing it. Not a big deal and language changes all the time.
  7. Not a great inning dodged some bullets. 3 flyballs. Not dominant Hader. Again, bellingers looked gone to me off the bat to me. Anyone else or am I just getting jumpy?
  8. Agree, Arcia hitting makes this team so good. So happy to see him taking good hacks and getting his confidence back.
