    Nice to see Love throw some of those short simple throws accurately. Has really struggled to actually get those on target and allow the receiver to advance them.

    I can see how they wouldn’t overturn it until that overhead camera angle. That seemed like a good look at it and made it look pretty clearly backwards.

    Mattingly is a proven winner, in what way? He managed the Dodgers and mustered the postseason 3/5 years…never winning more than 94 games. He advanced to the NLCS once. He didn’t even make the postseason until the Dodgers starting running the #1 payroll in baseball.

    Wait...not even a teams Top 10 player...? That is just, a terrible take. Josh Hader is a perfect comp for Devin Williams and he managed to get us two top 10 prospects. Burnes is undeniably just as valuable trade value wise. As much as Adames is overrated by Brewers fans even he, I think, is worth a pretty decent prospect in a teams Top 10. Now are we going to get a boatload of Top 100 prospects and blue chippers in the Top 30? Well, there you would have an argument. We probably aren't flipping them all for guys in AAA that are ready to make a big impact and are can't-miss. You probably hope for a few to become something, and they probably don't do it overnight.

    Similar situation (some good trade chips), but we got stupid lucky when we traded the likes of Gomez/Lucroy/etc. Either got major contributors or flipped them for something good (Yelich) It could happen again…but it is quite likely we trade those guys and it ends up like when we acquire players shipping back prospects…the prospects are useless garbage. Could happen…but wow, that would be winning the lottery twice in a row.

    Is Peralta really a part of the future? If you are punting 2024, that is 33% of his remaining control. If you are really optimistic 2025 is maybe .500ish…that is 66% of his control. So you are holding onto him for 2 years to hope you can ride him to FA trying to compete in 2026? Brewers should sell high on him, but I doubt they do because then this off-season will look like a total fire sale. Peralta and Contreras are probably safe for that reason barring a trade offer out of this world. Im not sure Woodruff cares about a teams ability to compete. He just wants to get back and showcase for a FA contract. A lot of people expect Adames to get traded, I’m not so sure. Seems like a guy to keep around unless someone overvalues him. If no one does, pray he puts together a huge first half to be the crown jewel of the trade deadline. If not we can probably still get a draft pick for him.

    A’s are so dumb it is hard to comprehend sometimes. Nothing about that trade will ever make sense.

    Is there any data that shows when teams aren't trying to compete? Because I don't know if such data exists. This isn't the NBA, I don't usually see teams trying to throw games. Even the sadder years of Brewers baseball since 2007, I never felt like the guys were out there trying to lose and not caring.

    Well, Bellinger is 27 years old...so I would sign Bellinger over Yelich easily. Assuming I was interested in either of them...I have seen Bellinger predicted around 100-150mil. Not sure how many years, but I assume the inference was 5 years. If we could unload $100mil of his salary, I would probably do it. Past that, I don't know there is much value in trading him. If he hits well in 2024, I think his market grows way bigger as he would appear a lot less risky of an add.

    Yelich had a nice year, but I can't imagine there are many teams out there that would be dumb enough to chance it and trade for him. If Yelich was on the market this winter, what would he honestly get? I can't imagine $100mil going on 32. He should borderline not even be playing the OF. I don't know a great recent comp off the top of my head, but something like 5/$80mil seems plausibly accurate for what he would get. Maybe that is too much even, I don't know. Feel free to correct me if you have a good comp for him. $22mil a season seems pretty steep though.

    Love probably has tried. His punches were probably just 15 yards short of hitting the mark though.

    Is David Ross not an option? Like forget the rivalry part of it and the irony...he seems like a good manager, no?

    Not saying their development is better, just saying they aren't dysfunctional. A lot of luck is involved even with having good player development. Even with the best ideas, finding success in baseball comes with 4x as much failure. Stearns was hitting the lottery early on picking up Villar/Shaw/Aguilar....but obviously it wasn't always going to be that great of odds for success. Really the main reason we rebuilt so fast. Had we hit on those types of moves at a more reasonable pace, we probably wouldn't have been on the radar in 2017 and probably don't have the year we did in 2018. That isn't a knock on Stearns or the Brewers FO...they just had a lot go right. It probably doesn't happen that well again when we try to rebuild.

    They would...it would certainly give us quite an insane group of young talent adding with what we already have. Hopefully we would avoid a half decade saga of losing. Still gotta hit on some guys though. Royals have been a dumpster fire since they won the World Series and I don't find them terribly ran. What we wouldn't have is on TOR arm...something we dearly need to actually compete. That isn't easy to find and certainly hard to try and get in a trade.

    Oh, I totally agree. Regardless of how long it ends up taking, I would just blow it up. I thought that was a legitimate option last offseason.

    I get the division isn't a powerhouse and it doesn't take much to make the postseason at this point...but to think we are going to implode the roster and then be chugging along looking at division titles in 2025 is Mt Everest level optimism. People expecting a quick turnaround like last time, just two short years of bad baseball before thrusting into success again truly don't appreciate how much had to go right for that to happen. Even that took two years and even the Cubs needed two years to reset things before barely getting to .500 this year. Which they have the benefit of money to buy impact FAs. It could happen...but that is quite a long shot. You are probably looking at '26 or even '27 depending on how the offense actually turns out. We have a lot of nice prospects, but hardly can't miss guys (minus Chourio) on offense. That is asking for a lot of rookies and 2nd year guys to go sprinting out of the gates. Where is the starting rotation in '25? Your theory bombs the whole thing.

    Well, yah, that would have zero basis to actually prove it. Impossible to be wrong then. What exactly is competing on a 90+ lose team? Players are going out there to win and play good regardless...unless they want to lose their job and not play baseball. The whole team wasn't revolting against him? Pretty low bar to clear.

    I don't recall the Mets offer being stated as such...only 'significantly less' than the Cubs offer. Was that still highest paid manager money? Idk...maybe so. Even if it was, considering their financial standing and they probably knew the Brewers would offer at least around that highest paid manager in MLB amount....no, not really aggressive, in my opinion.

    Counsell said he didn't go back to the Mets because he knew he wouldn't go there and didn't want to waste time...essentially. It was reported they were never going to go anywhere near the Cubs number though. However, if Counsell was really looking for the best offer to reset the market that doesn't make any sense...nor does not taking it the Brewers. It is quite likely the Cubs told him to take it or leave it and weren't going to let him shop the offer...or Counsell saw how much the Cubs were about to overpay that he just accepted before the Cubs came to their senses. Because in reality, the Cubs offered waaaay more than they had to because it sounds like he wanted to go to the Cubs and really didn't want to go to the Mets or Brewers.

    The Cubs had to of blew through their hypothetical budget, so I don't know if this really holds water then. Like generally I agree, but Counsell's salary wouldn't fit in any teams budget if they had one. And if any team in baseball was going to blow through a budget, no better team than the Mets.
