  1. I wonder if Ashby could be used as a trade piece for Paredes. Looks like contracts are pretty similar between the two. I'm sure we'd have to add a prospect as well.
  2. Very happy about this development. Hopefully it's a long term deal for the smaller regional sports networks like Fox Sports Wisconsin. Bummer for the fans in LA and NY and I'm assuming they won't be picking up the Cubs new channel as well.
  3. Hulu Live appears to be the next best streaming solution if this doesn't get worked out. I'm hoping the fact that Youtube TV is the sponsor of things like the World Series and the NBA finals means that they'll continue to actually try and carry the teams that are trying to compete in these events.
  4. I've really been happy with Youtube TV so this is disappointing. I wonder if this is a final decision or if they're still negotiating and this is part of the negotiation strategy. I'm going to miss the unlimited DVR when I switch to Hulu Live.
  5. My guess is this likely means Braun is back at first base. I know he'd be short for a first baseman, but is there any consideration to moving Hiura there since the defense at second was such a struggle? He's listed at 6'0" which is the same as Thames and Prince Fielder.
  6. Lots of people mentioning Joe Panik in Bumgarner deals. What if we did the smaller deal of just getting Panik? He's alternated good and bad seasons the last 4 years so it's tough to know exactly what you're getting. Would a Chase Anderson for Panik swap make sense?
  7. Anyone know how to look up player batting stats by stadium? The tweet linked in post #108 counts 43 career HR's for Grandal at Miller Park. I was curious how many AB's it took for him to get that.
  8. My guess is that Stearns likes that Claudio could go multiple innings in low leverage situations to help save the rest of the bullpen. I would hope that he would by used as a LOOGY in higher leverage situations.
  9. The playoffs showed us that we need to make improvements on our offense this off-season. I see the biggest need as a power hitting right-handed bat given the quantity of lefty pitchers the Cubs and Dodgers have. I think Donaldson could be a good fit if he is willing to take a 1 year deal coming off an injury plagued year. This would allow us to continue using Shaw at 2B which I thought went remarkably well. Even if Hiura is ready to contribute at mid-season we would be able to get Shaw in the lineup against all right-handed pitchers as Shaw could play at 3B, 2B, and 1B. Donaldson, Hiura, and Aguilar are guys that will need some regular off days.
  10. Are tickets sold on StubHub all the way up to gametime? Or are they pulled off at a certain point?
  11. Unless I'm reading that incorrectly, you have to be an MLB.TV subscriber. Thanks for pointing that out, I clearly didn't read that closely enough. Looks like I'll be doing a trial on one of the streaming services.
  12. I don't get MLB network so I'll be looking for a way to stream the playoff game tomorrow. I saw that MLB.TV has some promotion where you can use your cable provider's authentication code to get access for select playoff games: https://www.mlb.com/live-stream-games/subscribe/postseasonus Does anyone know if this would work in the Milwaukee area, or would we have blackout concerns? Otherwise it looks like youtube tv, directv now, and playstation vue all have mlb network.
  13. I think someone asked this earlier in the thread but I didn't see an answer. Anyone know what a "Brewers Insider" is? I see they get a chance at tickets on Wednesday ahead of the Wisconsin presale.
  14. My moves would be: 1) Trade for Dozier. I'd trade 1 guy in our top 10-20 prospect range and one in the 20-30 range to make it happen. Ideally I'd want both to be rule 5 eligible guys. 2) Call up Arcia, option Orf to AAA, and move Saladino into the back-up SS/2B role. Arcia is hitting pretty well in AAA and the defense is needed. Others know more about defensive ratings than I do, but Saladino sure seems like a big step down defensively to me and I think he has overperformed offensively. After these past couple weeks I'm questioning defensive metrics in general as Saladino has been disappointing in that area and Machado has looked like Ozzie Smith out there. 3) Offer Hiura, Ray, Ortiz, and Medeiros for Degrom. That probably isn't close to getting it done, but it's worth a shot. If we did this deal, I'd try and then sign Dozier to a 2-3 year deal in the offseason.
  15. Yeah, I want Dozier more than most but I wouldn't want to deal Ortiz or Phillips. I really think the prospect(s) end up more in the Grisham, Gatewood, Ponce, Diplan, Supak, etc tier
  16. Given Arcia's defense, what type of OPS would he need bring value to the team? Just throwing out some numbers, I'd put a range of outcomes at: .730+: positive value .680: neutral .630 and below: negative value
  17. That return for Barraclough and Dietrich seems really light to me. Elite RP's with team control get elite returns, there's no one of a Mejia caliber in the deal you mentioned. Dietrich is under team control until 2020, so he also would bring a much higher return. The fact Dozier makes some money doesn't scare me off. It's not my money, if Antannasio is willing to pay it that's great and wouldn't affect our future payroll. If anything it's probably a good thing as it would keep his trade value down a bit and it would probably keep a team like Cleveland from wanting to trade for him (as they have traditionally resisted taking on contracts). The 2nd basemen you listed have produced similar to Dozier this year, but the ceiling for Dozier seems much higher if he can produce like the last 2 years in the 2nd half. A guy like Asdrubal Cabrera doesn't get us past the Cubs. If Dozier hits in the 2nd half like he has the last two years, he just might make the difference. It's far from a certainty, but I want to take the shot at the huge upside especially since the prospect cost should be reasonable.
  18. Colorado Spring gives a boost, but they still have to produce. Even in Colorado, I don't see how those aren't encouraging numbers, especially the on-base percentage. AAA stats for other guys this year: Phillips: .240/.331/.411/.742 Broxton: .263/.336/.431/.767 Bandy: .313/.387/.495/.882 Nottingham: .303/.368/.570/.938 So some guys clearly taking advantage of the good hitting environment, but Phillips and Broxton stats aren't impressive. I'd say an .886 OPS for Arcia is great, even in Colorado. As a corner outfielder with questionable defense, Santana really needs to put up some bigger stats offensively.
  19. Both Arcia and Santana have been swinging the bat better in AAA. Their current lines are: Arcia: .322/.429/.458/.886 (strikeout percentage 14%) Santana: .281/.415/.453/.886 (strikeout percentage 28%) So making contact hasn't been great for Santana but the other numbers are promising. I know they haven't been in AAA very long, but similar to Schwarber last year they may have just needed a "reset" to get back on track rather than completely remaking their swing or something. I think it's an easy decision to have Santana continue in AAA coming out of the break as he wouldn't get regular at bats in Milwaukee and needs to cut that strikeout percentage down. I think it's a harder decision with Arcia. If he's made some offensive improvements in AAA he could clearly help the team win games in the 2nd half. Now that we know we're not getting Machado there's more clear opportunity at SS. I know that the trade deadline is far from over, but most of the other guys being mentioned either aren't shortstops or have defensive versatility. Saladino could still get plenty of starts between SS and 2B if he keeps hitting well. I think there's a decent chance we see Arcia back sooner rather than later. I'd think about it now, and would for sure do it after July 31 if he continues to hit and we haven't made any major middle infield additions.
  20. Over those seasons he had elite production over 1232 at bats. It's not like it was a small sample size or something. Even if he produced more like 2014 and 2015 he'd be a huge step up over what we've had.
  21. I'll be thrilled if we get Dozier. There's a decent chance he matches Machado's 2nd half offensive production and his defense is better (at a less challenging position). Escobar has been great for the Twins, but Dozier's track record is much more extensive. Hoping Cleveland starts the 2nd half hot and the Twins struggle a bit as I'm worried the Twins are just close enough in the division that they won't want to trade guys away.
  22. I've been consoling myself over the Brewers losing streak by regularly checking the Biloxi box score. That is one exciting team lately. Erceg has really picked it up. Between Erceg, Ray, Hiura, and Gatewood that's a lot of talent. Hopefully Grisham picks it up a bit too.
  23. As I mentioned earlier, if we get a guy on base I hope we pinch hit for Chacin here. Our offense needs all the help it can get and we have the bullpen to get through the innings today.
  24. Looks like Arcia was 1-3 with 3 walks yesterday. Awesome to see him taking walks like that, hopefully he's figuring some things out. Looks like his line is .302/.412/.488/.900 in AAA. I know it's Colorado, but I'm encouraged. And Santana is proving they don't just give away hits and walks down there.
  25. I'm hoping Brett Phillips' enthusiasm brings some energy to the clubhouse today. I've wondered if Arcia and Santana going to AAA has affected clubhouse chemistry/morale at all. Most likely the lack of energy is a result of all the losing and playing some many games in a row, but those guys seemed to be popular in the clubhouse and helped keep things loose.
