  1. I like Miley, but the fact that we didn't make an effort to bring him back makes me think we have bigger plans in the works, which makes me happy.
  2. He only threw 141 innings last year for starters. FIP was 3.58 and his xFIP was 4.33. Some pretty good fortune as far as fly balls not translating into HRs. My 3.75 ERA prediction is much kinder than ZIPS and other predictions. I don't think not believing in Chase Anderson as a top 10 pitcher in the league is crazy. Obviously I still believe he'll be at least an above average pitcher. 3.75 ERA is pretty good for a starter these days.
  3. I don't think that rotation is good enough to compete with the Cubs. Honestly, I think it would put us around 86 wins, and the exact same position we were in last year. Cobb doesn't move the needle at all IMO. That rotation lacks firepower at the top. Should Lester regain form, the Cubs' top 3 pitchers would be better than our best. Only adding Cobb to the rotation would be a disappointment in my book. I would like him as the 2nd addition to the rotation. Cobb would be the 2nd addition (Chacin was the 1st). We had a top ten rotation last year. We shouldn't be using resources to get 3 new Starting Pitchers when we had a top ten rotation. One to fill in for the injured Neslon - agreed. A second to upgrade the peralta/garza/suter/guerra spot - agreed if Hader is bullpen only (seems like it). A third to push out promising rookie (Woodruff), block promissing minor leaguer (Burnes) and to relegate another starter to the bullpen (Chacin) when Nelson comes back - waste of resources. At a certain point, there is significant diminishing returns. We also have significant injury depth in the 6th/7th/8th starter (someone who can be in the bullpen or in AAA) in Suter, Guerra, Wilkerson, Burnes. I don't believe Anderson will replicate last season. Good pitcher with a 3.75 ERA sounds about right. No Nelson and who knows how he is when he returns. Right now I'd rank our rotation around 15th in the league. Middle of the pack. Cobb would probably push it to maybe 12th or 13th. If we're trying to win 86 games again, I think we'd be good with some improved OF production (assuming everyone else somewhat replicates last year). If we're trying to win 90 games and compete for the division, I do think we need a TOR type of pitcher or at least a #2 kind of guy.

  5. Don't really get what they're GM is trying to do. If you're going to tear it down, do it properly like the Marlins. He probably thinks that Archer could perform well and contending teams will want him at the deadline. I see it as a half season for Archer to potentially get hurt, and a half season less control. Could work out well or be a disaster.
  6. No, you need to re-evaluate your methods of player evaluation. Am I doing it right? Archer's future doesn't look bright. He's showing lots of signs of age-related regression. Trading multiple good prospects for him would be a terrible idea. It's probably the worst option available. He's 29 and his velocity increased from 2016 to 2017. I'm not seeing the age related regression in his stats. He didn't have a great year last year but I don't see any age related connection to his performance. I'm not sure you'd find a single person in the MLB who thinks Cobb is anywhere close to as good as Archer.
  7. Since the Yankees no longer need a 2B I would rather us sign Cobb and Walker. I think Walker's market is becoming narrower and narrower and he may just fall to us at a fairly discounted rate. Why not all 3? Make everyone happy.
  8. I'm not seeing the extra landing spot for Walker. Didn't this trade basically take the Yankees off the market for him? As for the OF landing spot, it opens up a spot on the Rays assuming they have any interest in Santana.
  9. Tampa is quite clearly going the Marlins route at this point. Shedding all kinds of salary and even trading guys like Souza for prospects. You would think it's becoming more likely Archer is traded before opening day, especially since he's likely fuming at this point. Signing Cobb and trading for Archer would make a lot of sense. Two teammates who seem to like each other. Not spending Darvish/Arrieta money on either. Archer, Nelson, Anderson, Cobb, and Davies would be quite the rotation. Should be interesting. I of course have no idea if any of that will happen. Wishful thinking.
  10. Happy for you! Well Yelich and Cain will occupy 2 of the OF spots... Last time I checked, there's 3 spot in the OF... Counsell said Braun will not be playing RF. So............. LF - Yelich CF - Cain RF - Santana 1B - Braun But I know, I'm jumping to a conclusion. That's a good guess for now. If you're saying with certainty that our opening day lineup will match that, I would say you're jumping to conclusions a bit. Santana could still be traded, or Braun could fail miserably at 1B. Still lots to be figured out. I doubt anything is certain for the Brewers FO right now. I'm not... Just going off what HH tweeted about 0 chance Santana is traded. If HH is correct, then you're probably right. While I enjoy reading what HH has to say, I don't take his word as fact. I just don't believe after all this time shopping Santana, we'd suddenly close shop. One call right now could send Domingo on his way as far as I'm concerned.

  12. Wasn't sure which forum to post this on, but I was interested in figuring out what regions each area scout covers. I'm specifically interested in the region that includes North Carolina. I looked at the Brewers front office list, but they don't specify what regions the area scouts cover. Was wondering if anyone on this board either knows the regions or could point me in the right direction. Thanks.
  13. Cobb is fine. He's not as good since returning from his 2015 Tommy John surgery, but still good. A 2.5 WAR guy. He's good as a 3rd starter in the rotation, but I don't view him as moving the needle for us compared to the Cubs. Should we get Cobb, I will wait for judgment until we see what other moves are in store. Still think we need a stud to lead the rotation if we're serious about contending, so we'll see what kind of trade is made. I wouldn't be happy with Cobb as our only pitching acquisition.
  14. It's definitely him. Personality is the same, like when he threatened to quit Twitter when someone questioned him. Info still seems to be generally solid.
  15. Pretty damn good numbers last year. I wonder what he could do outside the AL East and the AL in general. It is interesting that he's in Arizona when the Blue Jays train in Florida.
  16. Two pitchers trending the wrong direction. Sounds like the Brewers so you’ll probably be right. Oh joy! To be fair, Darvish is also heading in the wrong direction. Just as old as Arrieta, and really hasn't been as good as Arrieta in the last few years. Numbers are similar the past 2 years, but Darvish is farther removed from his elite pitching days (2013 Darvish vs 2015 Arrieta). I'm certainly uneasy about Arrieta. Hoping it would be a 4 year deal at the max.
  17. Quite possible. I think Archer and Arrieta. I say they go all in. Burnes would definitely be traded. But unlike previous competitive cycles, we'd be going all in for a couple years of contention as opposed to trading for short term success.
  18. With Darvish to the Cubs, I would bet on us as the favorites for Arrieta.
  19. Darvish to the Cubs. Pretty expensive. Hope we drove up the price.
  20. You can't complain about his contract compared to the market when there is no market. No other OF of similar value has been signed. Let me know when Martinez signs somewhere. Maybe he is a bit overpaid but there's nothing to back that up right now. For the record, that's around the price most people guessed for Cain. I don't really understand the whole Frazier thing. The reason he's not being paid much is because he's not worth that much. Hard to get excited about a guy hitting .210 and whiffing constantly.
  21. Does Yu really expect to get a better deal by continuing to wait? I have no knowledge of the negotiations, but it would seem to me that teams have given their best offers. If anything maybe teams are growing weary. Is he just chilling out for no reason?
  22. About to set the site record...
  23. Well he has certainly increased site viewership. Good social experiment.
  24. I guess I think Odorizzi is trash, but that's just me.
