  1. I also took it upon myself to try to watch this series of films a couple months ago. I've managed to watch the first three, one to go. Definitely not something to watch all in one sitting, but yes, extremely impressive. I've heard that adjusted for inflation, it is the most expensive production ever, costing $700 million in today's dollars. I actually really enjoyed part II, 'Natasha Rostova' the most. Lyudmila Saveleva had a great performance in that one. Bondarchuk's 'Waterloo' from 1970, starring Rod Steiger as Napoleon and also featuring Christopher Plummer, is another spectacle featuring more amazing battle sequences.
  2. Always remembered Max Van Sydow from 'Three Days of the Condor', but in recent years I've been watching tons of old movies and enjoyed him in both 'The Emigrants' and 'The New Land', as well as 'The Desert of the Tartars'. Saddened to hear that he has passed.
  3. YouTube TV allows you to add up to 5 other Google logins (people) on your account for free, in addition to the main one. My parents recently got the service and I am also using it. My situation matches yours exactly - I live about 20 minutes from them, and obviously have different internet service and settings. Works great, no problems. And since each person uses their own login, you're able to customize your own YouTube TV settings, independent of the main login. This means each login gets their own specific unlimited DVR space, and can specify their own shows to record, so you don't see what everyone else on the account is watching. You can also hide/show whatever channels you like per login, as well as customize their sort order.
  4. Stearns once again for the win.
  5. I'll second that, though everything makes a lot more sense on a second viewing.
  6. The Shield is my all-time favorite series. I've re-watched the entire run probably 6-7 times. After The Shield ended I started watching Justified, strictly for Walton Goggins, and it turned out to be a great series as well. Absolutely great acting and writing in both shows.
  7. Boy, you weren't kidding. Some people REALLY just thought this was the worst deal ever and were calling for Stearns' head
  8. Well, he was a Cardinal, and from what I hear VERY classy Seriously though, that one is a head-scratcher. Granted it was during the war years and the talent league-wide was diluted, but Marion had a .686 OPS, 6 homers, and just 63 RBIs! Must've had something to do with the Cardinals winning the Series that year I'm sure. Any one of the next three guys in the voting that season would've been my choice: Bill Nicholson, Cubs -- .287/391/.545/.935 OPS, 33 HR's, 122 RBIs Dixie Walker, Dodgers -- .357/.434/.529/.963 OPS, 13 HR's, 91 RBIs Stan Musial, Cardinals -- .347/.440/.549/.990 OPS, 12 HR's, 94 RBIs - you'd think Musial would've won it with St. Louis taking it all that year
  9. Yeah I've thought about that also. Stearns has done an amazing job maximizing value and picking up hidden gems via several trades from many different teams the past couple years. Would he really get a reputation around baseball as someone not to trade with because, no matter what players are involved, the likely outcome will be that the Brewers win the trade and the other guy comes out on the short end? The Brewer scouts and analytics team appear to be on a whole other level compared to most, so if Milwaukee wants one of your players that doesn't seem like anything special to you, would that send a red flag to that team that perhaps maybe there is more to their player than they think because Milwaukee is interested?
  10. Brewers definitely reaping the early rewards on this trade so far. In addition to Brinson: - Jordan Yamamoto pitched today for the first time all year in A ball - Isan Diaz is hitting .197 for AA Jacksonville thus far in 147 AB's - Monte Harrison doing ok for AA Jacksonville to this point - .251/.322/.440/.762 in 191 ABs
  11. Speaking of older - 'The Shield' is my all-time favorite show - tremendous cast, especially Michael Chiklis and Walton Goggins. Another one I've dusted off as of late - Babylon 5. It was very low-budget, a lot of the acting was over-the-top, and the CGI effects, while groundbreaking at the time, are extremely dated now. Despite all of that, the story arc that builds up through the first couple seasons and finally starts culminating around the end of season 2, still makes it a good watch overall.
  12. I enjoyed the first seasons of both Ozark and Taboo
