  1. An automatic ball to start the next hitter quickly escalates to a 3-1 count and another RBI single. Tie game 3-3 in Fayetteville. Two on, still nobody out in the bottom of the 9th inning. 😥
  2. The first pitch to the next batter is hit into right field and deflected by Eduarqui Fernandez for a single, scoring one. 3-2 Mudcats, with the tying run on 3rd base, winning run on 1st base and still nobody out. Oh no!
  3. And now he’s walked the 2nd batter, bringing the potential winning run to the plate with nobody out. Gulp. C’mon Jeison!!
  4. RHP Jeison Pena entered for Carolina in the bottom of the 8th inning, working around a leadoff walk for a hitless, scoreless frame. He’s still in there in the bottom of the 9th inning, hitting the first batter here as the Mudcats try to hold a 3-1 lead in Fayetteville.
  5. Other than Keston Hiura hitting his 2nd homer of 2023, it’s not going well tonight in Memphis, where Robert Stock hit 3 batters and gave up 5 runs in what’s officially 1 inning of work, having failed to retire anyone in the 2nd inning. RHP Luis Contreras did well to only allow 1 of 3 inherited runners to score, so it’s a 5-1 ballgame after 2 innings.
  6. It’s an action-packed finale in Beloit, as Ernesto Martinez homered for a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning, which Beloit turned around with a walk, 2 singles and a sac fly for a 2-1 advantage. Robert Moore answered with a 2-run shot in the 3rd inning, adding to his 1st inning double. Joe Gray Jr. continued his solid start with an RBI double. It’s now 4-2 Wisconsin, still in the 3rd inning.
  7. Quinton Low has struck out 4 batters in 2 innings of hitless work, walking one (caught stealing by C Matthew Wood) and hitting one (stranded at first).
  8. After a 2-day rain delay, the Mudcats and Woodpeckers resumed action in the top of the 6th inning of their 1-1 game (which commenced on Friday). Carolina quickly grabbed 2 runs on a walk, 2 hits (Tayden Hall, Daniel Guilarte) and a sac fly for a 3-1 lead. RHP Quinton Low has entered in the bottom of the 6th inning for his first 2023 appearance.
  9. It’s the rubber match for Biloxi against the Mississippi Braves in their 3-game series, with 21-year old RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez (3.01 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 10.8 K/9 in 107 2/3 IP last season) making his AA debut. 2B Isaac Collins makes his first official appearance:
  10. A win would give Nashville a 4-2 series win in Memphis. RHP Robert Stock strives to bounce back from a rough debut (4 ER in 2 1/3 IP). RF Sal Frelick is back atop the lineup:
  11. - LHP Bennett Sousa acquired from Reds for cash and international bonus money, then assigned to AAA Nashville - RHP Tyler Herb placed on AAA Nashville’s 7-day injured list - RHP Luis Contreras activated by AAA Nashville from Development List
  12. The Rattlers and Sky Carp play their series-deciding finale in Beloit, with 21-year old starting RHP Stiven Cruz (3.74 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 10.7 K/9 in 91 1/3 IP last year) getting his first action. 2B Jose Acosta and CF Terence Doston also make their season debuts.
  13. I didn’t see any MLB thread headlined by Houser’s injury placement, so I thought I’d post his rehab news here:
  14. AA Biloxi seeks to grab a 2-0 series lead at the Mississippi Braves, with 24-year old LHP Brandon Knarr (2.83 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 9.3 K/9 in 146 1/3 IP last year) getting tonight's start. We'll see 2023 debuts for DH/OF Tristen Lutz and 2B Felix Valerio.
  15. Hendry Mendez has not had a fun day thus far, with the error in right field and then getting doubled off here. Hopefully he can turn it around.
  16. This is how the Cardinals' AAA affiliate cost themselves a run to end the bottom of the 2nd inning. Perkins-to-Fernandez-to-Toro to nab the middle runner at third base before the lead runner could score. 😁
  17. I'm starting to see why we stuck with Jackson despite an unproductive, injury-challenged 2022!
  18. Per @AdamMcCalvy: "Have no fear about 2022 first rounder Eric Brown Jr. being out of the lineup for the Timber Rattlers' first few games. He has some minor hip tightness but should be playing early next week."
  19. A Saturday win would give Nashville a 3-2 series lead in Memphis, with 28-year old RHP Pedro Fernandez getting the start in his second appearance for the organization (3 IP, 0 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks in his first appearance). LF Tyler Naquin comes in with a 5-game hitting streak:
  20. High-A Wisconsin seeks to go up 2-0 in their 3-game series in Beloit, with 21-year old RHP Cameron Wagoner (1.83 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, 11.0 K/9 in 19 2/3 IP last season) getting today's start. LF Micah Bello and C Alex Hall are also making their season debuts.
  21. RHP Jake Cousins activated from AAA Nashville's 7-day injured list RHP Luis Contreras transferred to Development List from AAA Nashville RHP Mario Perez released by ACL Brewers Blue C Jose Sibrian transferred to Development List from High-A Wisconsin RHP Ryne Moore placed on High-A Wisconsin's 60-day injured list LHP Brian Fitzpatrick placed on Low-A Carolina's 60-day injured list LHP Pablo Garabitos placed on Low-A Carolina's 60-day injured list RHP Arielbi Gonzalez placed on Low-A Carolina's 60-day injured list RHP Delson Guzman placed on Low-A Carolina's 60-day injured list RHP Rosmel Reyes placed on Low-A Carolina's 60-day injured list INF Alberis Ferrer placed on Low-A Carolina's 60-day injured list LHP Josh Shapiro placed on Low-A Carolina's full season injured list
  22. To comply with maximum roster limits, it looks like C Jose Sibrian was likely moved to the Development List, since he’s absent from yesterday’s Game Notes: https://img.mlbstatic.com/milb-images/image/upload/fl_attachment/milb/nwmrnlwq5lu5wgesvuae.pdf
  23. RHP Janson Junk (5 innings, win) picked up where starting RHP Colin Rea (4 innings) left off, as the two combined on a 5-hit shutout of Memphis, with Nashville winning 3-0.
  24. Sal Frelick made a diving catch in the 3rd inning which saved 2 runs (situation was 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs):
  25. The Mudcats-Woodpeckers game has been suspended for the evening due to rain, tied 1-1 after 5 innings. More baseball tomorrow!
