  1. 23-year old LHP Robert Gasser (4.18 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, whopping 11.5 K/9 in High-A) makes his Brewers’ organizational and AA debut, as Biloxi aims for a 4-1 series advantage in Mississippi. His battery-mate is 26-year old C Brent Diaz, who’s surprised with an .820 OPS in 156 AA plate appearances this year:
  2. Timber Rattler manager Joe Ayrault rolls out the same starting 9 as yesterday, this time in support of RHP Zach Mort (4.53 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 8.1 K/9 in 55 2/3 innings) as they lead the road series in Quad Cities 3-1. CF Jackson Chourio has reached base safely in 9 of 10 games since his promotion (with hits in 8 of 10 games):
  3. 19-year old Jace Avina (1.067 OPS in 149 ACL plate appearances) makes his Low-A debut, manning center field for the Mudcats at home against Kannapolis with the series tied 2-2. RHP Alexander Cornielle (3.72 season ERA) is on the hill:
  4. In your daily reminder that every single player in the organization is a prospect, 19-year old 1B Jesus Parra (.718 season OPS) has a homer and a double, while 20-year old OF/INF Kaylan Nicasia (.817 season OPS) smacked a grand slam. Both play for ACL Brewers Gold.
  5. 18-year old LHP Caden Vire is also seeing his first action since June 30th in this game, along with OF Luis Medina returning after missing a few games this week and 9th round pick Tayden Hall getting his first start at catcher in organization. Meanwhile, it seems a little odd that 4th round pick C Matthew Wood is missing his 2nd consecutive game. Perhaps his early exit in the 3rd inning on Thursday wasn’t pre-planned. SS Daniel Guilarte and C Darlin Lora also continue to miss time.
  6. Good 12-hit, come-from-behind, 5-4 victory for DSL Brewers1, scoring 2 runs in the top of the 9th inning to defeat DSL Texas Red. 18-year old RHP Aneuris Rodriguez (5 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 1 WP, 1 balk, 1 K) had his 2nd straight solid start. 17-year old 2B Angel Pereira (4-for-5) notched 4 singles and super signing SS Jhonny Severino (2-for-5; stole his 10th base, though committed his 17th error) had a key 9th inning double. RHP Bryan Rivera also returned after a 5-week absence.
  7. - RHP Logan Henderson commences rehab assignment with ACL Brewers Blue - 1B Ernesto Martinez commences rehab assignment with ACL Brewers Blue - SS Robert Moore, 3B Ben Metzinger and C/1B/OF Tayden Hall assigned to ACL Brewers Blue from ACL Brewers Gold (reversing yesterday’s move)
  8. Sending Sheets out there to wreck his arm on September 27, 2008 was crazy. I really appreciated his guts though and I’m sure his teammates did too; just dumb management though, with a sadly predictable outcome. Similar to old Jordan playing that game against the Lakers whilst already nursing an injury in 2002 and Jeter playing that fateful extra inning playoff game in 2012 against the Tigers on an already-sore left ankle. Teams are more prudent now about managing their injured players, which is incredibly necessary for lower-budget organizations.
  9. We might still play a Super Two delay game with Turang and/or Frelick, right? I don’t want to get my hopes up too high. But yeah, Frelick, Ruiz and Turang should each see 400+ MLB plate appearances next year, while Feliciano will likely get another 200+. They’ve been rather insistent on Frelick playing center field, so I expect he’ll stick there while Ruiz roves around. My guess: Yelich-Frelick-Renfroe as principal starters, with Ruiz getting lots of time and Taylor also hanging around as OF #5. Either Frelick or Ruiz is bound to struggle initially, so I don’t think we’ll sell high on Renfroe until the 2023 trade deadline. Turang’s recent extra-base hit surge puts him back in the mix for the 2023 starting second base role, but I think he’ll have a massive spotlight on him in Feb/Mar 2023 as he tries convince Counsell/Stearns that he’s mastered the position. Any slip-up and they can easily force him to start 2023 in AAA to get more experience as an everyday second baseman, but I think he’ll put in the work and pass the test.
  10. First round pick SS Eric Brown Jr. probably doesn’t need to see any more ACL rookie level pitching. 3-for-3 with 2 doubles, 3 runs scored and a stolen base tonight for ACL Brewers Gold. All achieved in just 3 innings of play. ? With fellow SS Eduardo Garcia promoted to High-A Wisconsin today, it’s time to move Brown to Low-A Carolina, who could have used him in today’s 1-run loss.
  11. Rodriguez-Middendorf-Meeker is a heckuva combination. Love it! 4-1 Rattlers’ victory.
  12. After 3 scoreless innings from Zavolas (yes!), Biloxi breaks it open with a 4-run 9th inning, with a Lutz single, Monasterio double and Dillard triple (glorious). 7-2 Shuckers heading to the bottom of the 9th inning.
  13. Old friend RHP Logan Gillespie (still just 25 years old; pitched 10 1/3 MLB innings for the Orioles earlier this year) came in to strike out the Sounds’ side swinging in the 9th inning, completing Nashville’s 7-2 loss. They still lead the series 3-1.
  14. LHP Pablo Garabitos threw 4 2/3 innings (2 runs) and RHP Miguel Guerrero pitched 4 scoreless, hitless innings to give Carolina a great chance, but the comeback fell short, 7-6. We’ll have to wait to see OF Jace Avina’s Low-A debut tomorrow, I guess.
  15. The Shuckers are in a tight contest, leading 3-2 in the 7th inning. Drew Lugbauer hit his 22nd homer (5th off Biloxi) to tie it 2-2. Biloxi’s Garrett Whitley then manufactured a run in the 5th inning (walk, 2 stolen bases, sac fly). Luna pitched 4 innings. Noah Zavolas came in for the 6th inning. We’ll see if Zavolas is playing second long man today or possibly shifting toward a shorter bullpen role with the arrival of LHP Robert Gasser in the Hader trade.
  16. Darrien Miller hit his first homer since July 1, a 2-run shot in the top of the 5th inning to extend Wisconsin’s lead to 4-0. Hall and Cipion had RBI singles the previous inning. But CF Rodriguez exits after 4 scoreless innings (73 pitches) and Quad Cities then grabbed a run back off Middendorf. 4-1 Timber Rattlers.
  17. Nashville grabbed the lead 2-1 with 3 hits and a walk in the top of the 4th inning, but Lindblom’s struggles continue (3 runs on 2 homers in the bottom half). They’re down 4-2 in the 5th inning now. Frelick and Turang with 2 hits each. Jackson and Wilson have the RBIs.
  18. The Mudcats are chipping away nicely. Once down 7-0. Now it’s 7-5 going into the 5th inning. Areinamo with 2 hits. Raabe and Vargas with 2 RBIs each.
  19. Chourio doubled in the top of the 1st inning, but they couldn’t bring him home. Carlos F. Rodriguez and Alex Hall basically played catch in the bottom half: 3 walks, 3 strikeouts. No score after one between Wisconsin and Quad Cities.
  20. Vallecillo did not have a great debut in Low-A, walking the first 3 hitters of the game, then giving up 3 straight hits. At least he K’d one batter before being lifted after 38 pitches. Mudcats trail 7-2 in the 3rd inning. Meanwhile, Monasterio got Biloxi off to a good start with a solo homer in the 1st. 1-0 Biloxi, very early.
  21. Not quite a transaction. Just excellent news on 20-year old RHP Logan Henderson:
  22. League-leading Nashville is up 3-0 in this week’s series in Norfolk and has RHP Josh Lindblom on the mound tonight to try to continue the run. C Alex Jackson is back behind the plate for his first action since July 16th:
  23. AA Biloxi is up 2-1 in their road series at Mississippi, with starting RHP Carlos Luna aiming to continue recent good results (2.77 ERA over last 3 games and 13 innings). SS Andruw Monasterio (1.028 OPS in 131 plate appearances) has been a solid bat for the Shuckers:
  24. - RHP Cameron Wagoner (11th round draft pick) assigned to ACL Brewers Gold - RHP Tyler Wehrle (recent UDFA signing) assigned to ACL Brewers Gold - SS Robert Moore assigned to ACL Brewers Gold from ACL Brewers Blue - 3B Ben Metzinger assigned to ACL Brewers Gold from ACL Brewers Blue - C/1B/OF Tayden Hall assigned to ACL Brewers Gold from ACL Brewers Blue
  25. 20-year old RHP Alexander Vallecillo (3.82 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 10.8 K/9 in 37 2-3 ACL innings) makes his debut with Low-A Carolina at home against Kannapolis, leading the series 2-1. And DH/C Jeferson Quero (.741 season OPS) is a welcome sight back in the lineup after 10 days away:
