  1. The AAA Sounds lead their series in Jacksonville 3-2 and send RHP Alec Bettinger (0.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, 9.0 K/9 in 3 innings) to the mound for his 2nd start of 2022, with RHP Josh Lindblom (2.43 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, 7.8 K/9 in 33 1/3 innings) expected as an additional innings-eater. RF David Dahl (.300 AVG / .376 OBP / .456 SLG in 101 plate appearances) has produced 8 hits over his last 5 games:
  2. Such a strange day injury-wise. We got Lutz, Figueroa and Mort back (though no injuries were ever confirmed for the latter two), but lost Zamora, Mitchell and perhaps Bello. If we want to boost the hitting depth in Biloxi and Wisconsin (open question, honestly), I'd look for possible promotions of 2B Zack Raabe and/or OF Arbert Cipion from Low-A Carolina to High-A Wisconsin, plus a return of IF Ashton McGee back to AA Biloxi. Of course, we could also be bold and push SS Eduardo Garcia, though that K rate is a bit scary. On verra...

  4. RHP Jason Alexander started for AAA Nashville, looking for his 5th win of the season:
  5. LF Tristen Lutz returned to AA Biloxi's starting lineup for the first time since April 19th:
  6. The usually-dominant RHP TJ Shook was on the mound for High-A Wisconsin:
  7. I was down with a 12-hour bug, but will post last night's lineups now for posterity sake. RHP Jefferson Figueroa returned from an extended absence (last pitched April 19th) for Low-A Carolina: 1 - Arbert Cipion - RF 2 - Eduardo Garcia - SS 3 - Jackson Chourio - CF 4 - Hendry Mendez - DH 5 - Jeferson Quero - C 6 - Hedbert Perez - LF 7 - Jesus Chirinos - 1B 8 - Jheremy Vargas - 2B 9 - Luis Silva - 3B X - Jefferson Figueroa - P
  8. Raabe walked and Herbert Perez came through with a 2-out, 2-run single to right field to give the Mudcats a 5-3 lead. It was Perez’ first hit of the night, after a walk and 3 Ks. Vassalotti then made it entertaining in the bottom half, hitting two batters and throwing two wild pitches to allow Manfred’s ghost to score (5-4) and put the tying run on 3rd base and potential winning run aboard. Tired of playing with his food, Michele then struck out the final batter on 3 pitches. And that’s a 2-win, 2-loss night for our minor league affiliates.
  9. Vassalotti did his job (2 Ks, single, fly out), so they're headed to the 10th inning. Carolina has Raabe, Leones, Quero and Perez due up.
  10. RHP Michele Vassalotti has come in to pitch the bottom of the 9th inning in Fayetteville, hoping to extend the game to extras.
  11. Actually, the 3rd inning ejection stemmed from a close pick-off play which didn't go Wisconsin's way.
  12. Shoot. Fayetteville doubled in a run off of LHP Jakob Brustoski, who'd started the inning in promising fashion with 2 strikeouts. It's tied up again at 3-3, heading to the 9th inning. Chirinos, Vargas, Sibrian and Ferrer are due up.
  13. Oswel Leones singled, stole 2nd base and scored on 2 wild pitches in the top of 8th inning. Carolina leads 3-2.
  14. Jesus Chirinos has notched his 2nd home run of the season, a solo shot to tie the game 2-2 in the top of the 7th inning in Fayetteville. Go Mudcats!
  15. Wisconsin's win streak has been snapped, unfortunately. Hopefully today's reversal-of-fortune day, which would mean Biloxi will hold on (leading 9-4) and Carolina will pull their game out (down 2-1 for now).
  16. IF Alberis Ferrer has committed his 12th error of the season to allow the leadoff Woodpecker to reach base in the 6th inning. Fayetteville then takes the lead on a balk and a single. Carolina trails 2-1.
  17. Wisconsin's down to its final 3 outs, as it's 8-7 going into the 9th inning. Peters, Miller, Clarke and Rodriguez need to turn the tables in this one.
  18. Cam Devanney decided to join the outburst, smacking his second homer of the season. 9-4 Biloxi in the 6th inning. Wisconsin was unable to knock in the tying run in the 7th inning, as Carlos D. Rodriguez was caught looking and Antonio Pinero grounded into a 1-2-3 double play. But don't worry, Kent Hasler is still mowing down the opposition, striking out all 6 hitters he's faced. Wisconsin trails 8-7 going into the 8th inning.
  19. Thomas Dillard drives in 2 runs with a single and Jakson Reetz followed with a first pitch blast to right field, his 5th home run of 2022. And just like that, Biloxi leads 8-4 in the 6th inning!
  20. Tristan Peters, Darrien Miller and Wes Clarke start off the Timber Rattler 7th inning with three singles, cutting the lead back to 8-7. Miller's 4-4 and likely to bat again in the 9th inning. Uh oh in Biloxi, as Garrett Mitchell exited the game in the 6th inning. Let's hope he's okay. Nick Kahle and Joey Wiemer opened the bottom half of the inning with 2 walks. Still 4-4.
  21. RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez has come in to pitch the 4th inning in Fayetteville. It's still 1-1.
  22. Hurricane Kent Hasler entered and struck out all 3 straight River Bandits he faced, but a balk call allowed one of the inherited runners to score. Maybe Manager Ayrault would have been tossed at this point, if not for the fact that he was ejected back in the 3rd inning. Wisconsin trails 8-6 going into the 7th inning.
  23. Unfortunately, Mr. Turang couldn't be the hero on this day, instead lining into a 6-5 double play to end the contest. He ended with a very rare (for him) 0-for-5 day.
  24. The Woodpeckers have tied up the Mudcats 1-1 in the 3rd inning on two hits and a sacrifice fly off Mr. Tietz. Somewhat unsurprisingly (I think) after his 9-day layoff, Mr. Guerrero ran into further trouble in the 6th inning in Quad Cities, allowing the first 4 hitters to reach base (3 singles, 1 HBP). Wisconsin trails 7-6 as RHP Kent Hasler comes in with the bases still loaded and nobody out. Nashville has loaded the bases with 1 out in the 9th inning, down 7-3. Brice Turang is up to bat.
  25. Carlos D. Rodriguez (who'd walked) scores on a ground out and it's tied 6-6 in Quad Cities in the 6th inning. Guerrero is staying in despite a bumpy 5th inning (28 pitches, escaped bases loaded jam). Cam Devanney singles to knock in Dillard, knotting it up for Biloxi against Birmingham, 4-4.
