  1. Jay Buhner and it is not even close. He will not hit for avg this year but will be serviceable due to his arm, glove, speed, and bottom of the order chaos that he can bring on occasion. Jay Buhner!
  2. Yes that lineup in April, and this after Frelick's service time clears: Mitchell to RF, Sal to CF, and Taylor to 4th OF.
  3. This is a really sharp comment. I live and work in Ho Chi Minh City, VN and have been working 3 days a week since Tet (Feb 1st) as well as working some remotely. I get my temp taken when going into work and coming into my apartment complex. We are ordered to use hand sanitizer, do not talk to others in the lift, and wear a mask in the lift. I have never seen anything like this and it is for those who are at risk if they get infected as well as not burdening the ridiculously bad local health care system in place now. As bad as the local hospitals are here, the confinement and quarantine procedures are on point. Hopefully this flattens the curve and life, sport, and events can continue. Till then we are going to continue to get spots of cases that pop up--today Tom Hanks and Rudy Gobert...tomorrow the names will continue to roll in. This is going to have a longer run than many think. It has already affected NCAA seniors as they cannot play in March Madness, other careers will be affected more than Giannis' playoff run up and MVP candidacy...have we seen the end of Tom Brady and Drew Brees? No one knows. By the way, this is a test run for a bug that is as contagious as the measles and as powerful as ebola.
  4. I found this from minor league optimism thread and wanted to see what everyone is thinking about where minor league starters would be slotted to begin 2020 MiLB TJseven7 said: AAA: Burnes, Peralta, Supak, Brown, Jankins AA: Bettinger, File, Francis, Rasmussen, Zavalos A+: Ashby, Small, Lazar, Bennett, Castaneda/Sunitsch A: Jarvis, Olson, Kelly, Lindell, Walters, Luna, Lemons if he's ready Honestly, I would like to see Rassmussen pushed faster and in the pen. I think that Bett and File could come up and move Jankins to the AAA pen and FPeralta to the MIL pen. This would open up Small and NBennett (the college lefties) to start in AA. On the other hand, do you want to send younger staff into PCL batting boxes and get shelled? Thoughts? Seems like competition will weed out the players from the pretenders. Trades and bullpen assignments will come before the Rule V decisions by the end of the year.
  5. 1.ESmall--SEC dominant and has a pathway to the bigs 2.DRassmussen--boom or bust but the boom could be big and really soon 3.Feliciano--looking forward to 7 years of catching under control 4.Turang--good looking kid, could be drafted over/traded over soon 5.AKelly--boom or bust but not really soon 6.Lazar--youngest of the “Dudes” or righty starters that don’t light up the radar gun but move up the system with some decent stats/peripherals 7.Alec Bett--a dude, Ross Stripling MLB comparison would be nice. 8.AAshby--interesting player based on name, position of need, and stuff 9.BWahl--man among boys especially when you look at all the RMV teens. 10.EGarcia--projectable 11.Sunitch- lhp with nice WHIP 12.DFile--Dude. 13.CAndrews--I like him as a LHP that has great numbers. Competitor and I want him to do well. 14.Kahle--young catcher highly drafted and has some room to jump up the system. 15.Hummel--continues to thump. 16.BFrancis--Dude. 17.Zavolas--Dude. 18.Carlos Rodriguez--decent year and that is rare amongst our int’l teens. 19.Zhao--a rare long play for me based on spin rate 20.Devin Williams-talent but not a real prospect anymore. He is what he is but that could be decent…the dividing line in my mind. Everyone below has a flaw, is losing their star luster, or unproven to a point of being a lottery ticket. Above are the ones that have a chance to be as good as Devin could have been out of St Louis getting drafted with the top pick all those years ago. 21.JP Feyereisen- has some stuff but can he make a splash AND stay around the 26 man roster. Came a little too easily to us; I want to see the catch. 22.JJarvis--too young to know but size and comes from good baseball area in NC 23.NBennett - upside lefty that is 22 and poised to jump quickly 24.QTC--personal fav but has to rebound from injury 25.PHenry--holes in game but position of need; could be the Brady Quinn of mlb catchers

  7. AND the owner as Mark A pretty much looked at the Grienke return from LAA as a reason GM Melvin was brushed aside.
  8. Because his super 2 arby numbers are going to make this player lose value and fast. I love Hader, but at his current price at best. WAR/salary matters to a small market club...and there is also this from Mark Polishuk at MLBTR.com chat--> (Would NYY GM) Cashman (make this trade?) 11:26 Frazier, Garcia, Florial for Hader. Mark P 11:26 (Yankees GM Brian Cashman) No way the Yankees offer that much I am sure that if Frazier, Garcia, and Florial were offered on this board that the MKE faithful would pan the NYY offering as not enough. Not everyone values our stuff like we do...whether it is a summer yard sale or winter trade prospects.
  9. Whitley has always had a lot going for him. Not often you can poach a TOR at minimum wage...if he pans out. Toro...man oh man...kid looks good. I could see him at AAA until Healy/Sogard play themselves out or injuries take hold. A Perez rebound would be icing if the other two work this year and Brewer is young enough to be considered a decent lottery ticket. I like this a lot for the Astros as well as they don't have a ton of lefty relievers killing it right now and this addition would move everyone's bullpen rank down a level. The Astros have SOOO much depth and talent that it will be interesting to see where the Taylor Jones and Abraham Toros go if they don't stick around in HOU. So much of their MLB top 30 are due up in 2019 and 2020 and have no place to go.
  10. I thought that would be a popular reply that is why I wrote, "Not enough for this guy, No way ____ will go for that... blah blah blah" Don't think it directly works? Then fill in the gaps...send KSmith to MKE rather than Peterson, take a player from PIT and send it to MKE, etc... But I am not as high on Hader as others on this board solely based on his WAR, how up and down relievers are year in and year out, and the availability of RPs on the market each and every year. We are trading combined 2.5 WAR from 2019 that will cost 7.7mil (at its cheapest) for 6+ years of control in a black hole of a position with precious nothing in the system that makes Ryon Healy look like an answer for a playoff team. Hayes becomes our best prospect by far...but if you don't like the haul then shift things around, but the Heyman quote makes me think that we are going for sustainability in a long lasting program (save money, get playable kids under control, re-sign Yelich with the savings). Think Duke basketball's sustainability over the decades vs the splash and quick fade of Michigan's Fab Five and then nothing after that...that is value. I don't think we could get JMcNeil from the NYM straight up for Hader right now...the value play is in kids and buying low.
  11. Hader to NYM prospects KSmith, Baty, FAlvarez and Arcia and Lowrie to PIT (PIT new GM buying low, taking on payroll, and absorbing young controllable talent). and to MKE: Ke'Bryan Hayes (Hayes continues to improve as a hitter. He's always had a solid approach at the plate, but it's become even more refined, with a walk rate that went up for a third straight season in 2018. So did his ability to drive the ball. While he still largely uses a contact-first approach, Hayes set career highs in extra-base hits and slugging percentage, and there's more over-the-fence power to come as he matures and continues to add strength. That might slow him down a touch, but he's still smart enough on the basepaths to steal bases. There might not be a better defensive third baseman in the Minors, with his agility, hands, arm and instincts all pointing to future Gold Glove awards. Hayes will be 22 years old for all of the 2019 season, with plenty of room for growth from an already-impressive toolset. He has every chance to be an elite-level third baseman at the big league level.) Peterson (former #1 pick and LH starter from NYM---Peterson's fastball is average in terms of velocity, as he'll sit at 89-91 mph and touch 93, but few starters in the Minors can sink and command it as well as he does. Logging 127 1/3 innings in his first full season, Peterson yielded only two home runs (0.14 HR/9) and posted the third-best ground-ball rate (64.5%) in the Minors among qualified pitchers. He combines his heater with an above-average slider that nets him whiffs as an out pitch, while his changeup, which flashes above-average, gives him a weapon against right-handed hitters. He fills out his four-pitch mix with a fringy curveball that he can throw for a strike. Despite a lower arm slot from his 6-foot-6 frame, Peterson has demonstrated outstanding control of all his pitches, even if he can stand to refine his overall command some. Average bat-missing ability and a knack for inducing weak, ground-ball contact points to more of a floor than a ceiling for Peterson, but it might not take him that long to reach his potential as a No. 3 or 4 starter.) Ashcraft (At 6-foot-5 and closing in on 200 pounds, Ashcraft is the prototypical athletic and projectable high school right-hander. He's been up to 94 mph consistently already, and with his frame, he's likely to add strength and velocity as he matures and he throws his fastball with excellent extension, angle and sink. His slider was up to 82-85 mph in the GCL and could give him a second plus pitch in time. The changeup is behind the other two pitches, but he has a feel for it and there's confidence it will catch up and be at least an average offering.) "Not enough for this guy, No way ____ will go for that... blah blah blah" Don't think it directly works? Then fill in the gaps, but the essence is... We don't want to pay 5mil+ for a RP with a sub 3WAR for years to come because it will not be good value. KBHayes' father played in MKE and this kid has the glove NOW...let him grow into a solid 3B and take the lumps but hope that his #36 MLB prospects ranking holds true. Peterson has attributes and is a lefty as we covet the hell out of them recently. Edit: citation noted--http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2019
  12. Do you have a link to the full list? Baseball reference seems stuck on last year's 40 unless I missed something... Thanks.
  13. Means, John LHP- Oriole starter at 26 yrs old, 3.60 ERA with a 1.135 WHiP, .234 BAA, 2.2 BB/9, 7.03 K/9 A lefty that can deal innings and less proven than Matthew Boyd in Det. Not that they would, but since BAL needs everything except RF...maybe... what would it take to get this deal done? an extra starter means that we could not have to rely on JNelson, can let Chase's $$$ walk/get traded, not have to rely on Burnes, Faria, etc to figure it out in April, and it would be one less free agent to overpay. What gets it done? What would BAL expect back?
  14. I am not sure where this offseason will end up...some very tough choices will have to be made. Chase Anderson – $10.3MM – club option for $8.5MM Try and trade him for a Nick Gordon type player so that Arcia can walk/be packaged for a young starter like another Faria. Jimmy Nelson – $3.7MM Totally depends on which Jimmy shows up and how his offseason tape looks Hernan Perez – $3.0MM I would not do it...I would keep Spang and TAustin for 3mil Corey Knebel – $5.125MM Oh yes Alex Claudio – $2.2MM Easy yes considering he got better and threw in over half the games. Trades takes a toll on players and he should be better from the beginning...not too long ago he was a closer in TEX. Travis Shaw – $4.7MM Stearns already hinted that a hedged bet is in play here. Manny Pina – $2.2MM – club option for $1.85MM with a $150K buyout Yes unless they package him and bring up Freitas/JNott. Cory Spangenberg – $1.5MM Yes, very flexible and showed some spunk at the end off last year...sadly, out of options. Zach Davies – $5.0MM Great question, but if Chase is traded, Jimmy doesn't have it, Wheeler et al sign elsewhere, then who are you going to start next to Woody? Junior Guerra – $3.5MM I like him a lot, but I was happier when he had options. Tyler Saladino – $1.0MM We are going to need a lot of these types of players to fill that San Antonio roster because the Brewers are not ready to show AAA prospects yet. Orlando Arcia – $2.7MM I cannot see it unless capital is spent in the rotation, catcher, 3B, etc and he has to stay because there are no more moves to make. Ben Gamel – $1.6MM I like him a lot, but I was happier when he had options. Brent Suter – $900K Oh yes. Tyler Austin – $1.2MM IMO, I feel a lot of you missed this one. Re-read his MLB prospect scouting report. This is found money to Stearns and the Brewers who have Leonard and Gatewood at 1B. He stays and he makes the team to see if he is the future 1B after Thames leaves. There is no one else ready to come in and we cannot overpay for free agents at every position. Maybe Braun finally transitions to make more room for Grisham, but I am thinking that he can settle in and .850 OPS a year or two from now.
  15. Taylor is an interesting option. Had not thought about him. Taylor had the 4th most starts at 2B and Lux is viewed by many as a 2B moving forward. EHernandez may be the one they try and move as he has a 3.5ish salary and his WAR was 1.5 where Taylor had a 2.4.
