  1. This was a thoughtful post in its entirety. I have just a few comments, as perhaps my way of dealing with the sudden and crappy end to what was otherwise a good season: "the current playoff format does crack the window open just enough to give us hope each season" and then crush our hopes like a bug on the windshield. 😖 "In the regular world, when failures happen, we often can apply hindsight and logic to reflect and demonstrate the mistakes that were made." We all fail. Most of us just don't do it before a national audience. I'm sure Devin feels THE WORST about all of this, but nobody thinks he's a bad person or player, and he will rebound.
  2. Yeah! Even WE cannot be eliminated in the bye-week! (Just trying to divert my pain with lame humor.)
  3. Sure, a few more runs would have been great. But DW flat-out failed in his only job; that's undeniable. That said, I was more upset by the defensive lapses in Game 1. Defense had been a strength, but that's where we really choked as a team.
  4. Once we got going, I came to believe that this team was special enough to take that extra step. Wrong! My expectations are lower about next year (little chance of keeping Adames). But baseball season can be a big tease. So I wouldn't be shocked if we made the playoffs again.... and lost in the first round again.
  5. OK. It's not THAT bad. But I've never felt totally secure with Williams, and Peralta is no Burnes or Woodruff. It may have been the pain and the vodka talking.
  6. My $0.2: when Peralta is your "ace" and Devin is your best closer.... You need pitching. At least we have Chourio. What a rotten ----ing way to end a fun season.
  7. I guess I'll cheer for the Padres. They were the first team I ever loved... When they were AAA. I'll be back for the Crew, because being a New Orleans Saints fan I seem to crave suffering and heartbreak.
  8. I have never felt secure with Devin in the game.
  9. Chourio heaving that ball into the stands... Ultimate frustration in defeat.
  10. Now I guess he can punch a wall and break his hand.
  11. You can't blame Murphy for this one. It's been fun. Mostly. Good night. See y'all next spring.
  12. The way we're consistently waving at these breakers down and away is pathetic. Might as well go up to the plate with a 3 wood. Bughgggh.
  13. If Peralta is your ace, you don't have one. We do not. I'm not putting this loss on him. I am saying we do not have an ace.
  14. I once read a book about backgammon. It was "The Cruelest Game." The author compared backgammon to baseball managing. You can make the best decision based on probabilities, but the dice can make your odds irrelevant. Bad plays by Chourio and Adames were like the "unlucky" dice.
  15. Come on. Chourio and Adames failed to make crucial plays. Don't make it complicated.
  16. I'll take the blame. We were winning until I started watching. Forgive me.
  17. It's amazing how many posters should really be managing.
  18. Yeah. Murphy should have caught that ball Chourio muffed. Get real.
  19. Worst possible time for defense to fail. I love Chourio. But dude, EVERY play counts.
