  1. Yeah, the NCAA will make that statement about 36 hours after the first portal kid says he's going to (insert school here) because they offered him the biggest check, instead of the crap written for him by some agent extolling the virtues of the previous school, staff & fans of the team he's leaving, followed by what's becoming the most famous cliche of the decade----"With that being said------". So many of the things the NCAA has done, from rule changes to stuff like this, seems to scream "Let's be more like the NBA". For someone like myself who's felt for many decades that college basketball is a much more pleasing product it's really disgusting.
  2. Obviously not enough offense tonite, but really not a ton of at-bats that ticked me off in a major way. Mitchell with two ugly trips to the plate, and Contreras' AB after the Turang RBI double was poor. Someone who can effectively hit the ball to the opposite field, with a runner on 2nd & no outs needs to at least give himself a chance to get something he can drive that way, and he never did. Sproat almost gave up a HR to end the 3rd, leading up to the 4-run fourth. Second time through the order was almost as ugly as the 1st time was effective. Work in progress for what appears to be a very talented arm. Rengifo is really seeing the ball well right now. Did I miss the memo that MLB sent out requiring all ground-rule doubles to be called 'automatic doubles'? Maybe I'm guilty of old-school-itis, but it just sounds dumb to me.
  3. True😁. And with them playing us right now, likey.
  4. Interesting that they want to maintain 4 LHP in the BP. But I'm not disparaging the move in any way; Fitzpatrick certainly deserves it. Agree with the above comments re Zerpa. Considering how he looked in the WBC & his first few outings of the season it appears to be nothing at all like a phantom injury.
  5. Blue? Heck no. It's impossible to put numbers on it AFA how many runs it's worth but he absolutely could be an influence as a hitter for Ortiz, bases loaded or not.
  6. I could see him possibly staying up here & playing sparingly as opposed to some other candidates. A lot of that would depend on his work ethic/preparedness on a daily basis AFA being able to 'stay ready' w/o regular ABs. Agree with your other points 100%.
  7. She was sitting in her little pit. I saw her late in the game with a look on her face like 'Why aren't they hitting this guy throwing slowpitch?'
  8. Jones is an obvious victim, after that it gets interesting. I thought Blacks' chances would be based on what they think of his ability to come off the bench & put up good ABs. He made a statement tonite. IMO it'll be tough to find a place for him once Yelich also makes it back, unless there's another opening on the 26-man due to injury. Their LH DH & LH side of the 1B tandem would be covered. Again, they'd have to feel good about his PH prowess cuz that would be the lions' share of his role.
  9. Maybe Bryce Meccage can crack it at some point if his command improves, or Childers if he continues to shock the world (I know; he's already 25). But right now you're right.
  10. As @jay87shotpointed out, he's walking some, and that helps a little AFA living with the Ks is concerned. I just hope he stays healthy. Finally getting some extended playing time goes a long way towards finding out exactly to what extent he can fix the issue. It would be great if he could get the K rate down to a more manageable level. Lotsa infield hits in those legs.
  11. Yeah, I asked it under the assumption they'd all stay because it's an interesting conundrum. But you're right, there's always a chance one of them gets moved. If so, I'd also much rather it be for pitching depth in an off-season move.
  12. ........And he AVERAGED just over 6 innings per start, in 54 starts...........at the age of 44 & 45. Hard to imagine we'll ever see anything like that again.
  13. He doesn't really look it when you watch him play, but Made is a big boy (215-220lb). I have a tough time believing he has the mobility and range you normally see from a 2B but I could be wrong. I know he's seen time there in A ball. Pena strikes me as someone who would settle into a 2B or corner OF spot. Contrary to some I'm not nuts about Chourio in CF & hope he remains in left. To me 2B is a real possibility for Pena. AFA RF is concerned, Penas' arm ranks just a bit above avg IIRC but then again so did Frelicks', and he handles RF responsibilities just fine.
  14. Thanks for the captions. I almost thought the guy in the baseball uni was Efron😁. Votto always reminds me of a day in '08, we were sitting near the visitors' on deck circle & it was his birthday. Tried to use the b'day reference, anything to divert his attention. No luck, stone face, just totally focused. But we did get a chuckle out of Chris Dickerson, a future Brewer who pinch hit later. I claim partial credit for him K'ing.
  15. I haven't seen a ton of him this season, but I know the organization loves his mobility, athleticism & his arm is much more than good enough. It's just a question of whether the mechanics & footwork catch up. With Queros' shoulder taking some luster off his defensive game I'm sure he'll be kept behind the dish unless it gets to the point where they feel certain it ain't working. The verdict should come sometime after he advances past high A. Welcome to the board, BTW.
  16. Yeah, just on the physical makeup alone it's either Pratt or Made at 3B. Made may also have a bit more range......? And that could put Fischer in a 1B derby with Burke. Nice 'problem' to have.
  17. I love the close to 50-50 K to BB ratios for many of these kids. Theoretical to anyone who'd like to take a stab: Let's say Made, Pena & Pratt all stay in the organization. One obviously plays SS; who is it & where do the other two get moved to?
  18. Looks a little bit like the follow through of an onside kick. "Henderson gets a swing-and-a-miss, and finishes it off with a Vinatieri!!!!"
  19. I hardly ever visit the cess during football season. Maybe I should reconsider😄.
  20. Much of the work turned in by the starters is definitely a bright spot in the hot n' cold first one-sixth of the season.
  21. Absolutely true. I sometimes comment in the IGT before the game, oftentimes after. Hardly ever while the game is going on. One of the best posters on this entire board seems to have shunned it for whatever reason. Thing is, if I'm pissed off in the moment, w/o voice recognition I don't think I could type fast enough before the emotion subsides😄.
  22. You reminded me of something that happened maybe 2-3 years ago. I told the story before. It was a weekday afternoon game, I wasn't able to watch, and for some reason I can't recall had no access to a radio broadcast either. I decided to go on Brewerfan & check the IGT to see how it was going. At the time the game was over or almost over. I scrolled through 3-4 pages & decided by the tone of the thread that it was a close game but sounds like we're trailing. I don't remember the exact score but it turns out the Brewers won something like 7-2. I was once a heavy participant in another fan board & it was the same---the IGT was actually referred to as "the cesspool". But it takes all kinds. Probably important to remember that behind the keyboard we're all people. Some of us maybe even normal😛.
  23. I've always thought knee-jerk reactions typed out on a fan board are quite a different animal than showing frustration in the moment--say, watching the game at a bar, or at home, or in person at the stadium. But it's an internet message board. It takes all kinds. And in case you're wondering, the 'knee-jerk reaction' comment should make it clear that I'm not referring to you. You're a fan that seems more comfortable walking on the cloudy side of the street, for whatever reason. But you do your homework, you're quite knowledgeable---you're GOOD at it. It's not for me, but if everyone on here was like me---or you---it wouldn't be such a fun place to visit. The difference between someone simply saying "This team/player sucks" & explaining why he/she thinks they suck---and proposing alternatives--- is a large one. I'll take the latter.
