  1. I think 'a little flat' isn't a bad way to describe it. But it's a swing that I believe can produce line drives & enough hard-hit balls that I hope they don't go crazy with any changes. I imagine his bat path won't stay exactly the same, but overall his speed seems elite & I say let the speed play.
  2. Whatever his future holds, Joey Wiemer has had a very, very nice July.
  3. If Paynes' power only maxes out to fringe-avg or avg save for a major change to his swing & approach, so be it. I just get nervous when there's a major overhaul, especially one that's implemented to add power, and I hope that isn't in the cards. Maybe you tweak a little, but other than that let any natural increase in size & strength be the determining factor in whether or not he starts driving the ball. He has his offensive strengths; IMO letting him hone those with any add-ons to his power potential coming naturally should be the way to go.
  4. Speaking of Anderson......his power surge has been well documented, but I see he has SIX OF assists already on the season. And almost as many walks as Ks. Sounds like a pretty full package.
  5. Am I correct in assuming they aren't exactly 'high' on Satchell Norman defensively (as a catcher)?
  6. Exactly. You aren't dealing someone in that scenario b/c the other team wants them, it's to complete the deal. Like the reliever we picked up in the Hader trade whose name I've already forgotten. As for the rest of it, I feel they'd love to work out some sort of roster magic that allows them to keep Zastryzny but it'll be a challenge. In the meantime, like @LouisElypointed out, they can theoretically go until the end of the month w/o a 5th starter. Assuming no trade, that'll probably be the strategy as it keeps them from having to find a way to add someone like Chad Patrick to the 40-man.
  7. I'd guess no. I don't know if the hitters he'd face in AAA are all that huge a jump in talent, but he would have to deal with some "AAAA" types that may give him tougher ABs due to their experience, My guess is he'll get a taste of Nashville within the next 4 weeks or so. I wouldn't be surprised if they'd like to let him simmer in the minors until '25. And there are enough options where they may be able to do that with better luck healthwise & if Peguero and/or Payamps solidify. But the guy strikes out about 2 per inning. Intriguing. Of course if he comes to Milwaukee there's the 40-man puzzle to solve.
  8. And just for added fun let's remind all that he's 17 & won't see a birthday until the season's over.
  9. I'm thinking (hoping) there is more than one team at least slightly interested. That way someone might want to get the jump on others & we at least get a lotto ticket, or include him in something a bit larger.
  10. Very good, insightful comments re Peralta. His being the best version of himself as often as possible is a big key. I think Murphy has a better handle on the idea of saving Contreras from himself. Junis & Wilson returning to the pen is huge. That could (should) allow people to return to more comfortable roles & get a chance to exhale a bit. Between that, Williams retuning & a possible Yoho debut down the road if needed I feel better about the chances of the pen finishing strong.
  11. Yep. I suspect that once he was on our radar we did our homework & have a pretty good idea we'll be able to sign him. He has a committed offer to the University of Houston, but pretty much all of the top preps have commitments.
  12. I'm dating myself but I keep thinking Dion James. If he does add good weight & it transcends to power w/o him drastically changing his approach I think we have something.
  13. I'll admit that Morels' behavior has bothered me a little in the past. It's nice to know my emotions are now justified as I'm aligned with the organization that's such a bastion of proper baseball behavior.
  14. Brody Brecht. I was following after the Payne pick, thinking they might grab him at 34 if still there but they had other plans. He went at 38 to Colorado, which is kinda like a zebra being sent to go live in the "Big Cats of Africa" enclosure at the zoo.
  15. I don't get it. We should draft BAD players tomorrow?
  16. Not going to defend how they've been playing, no one could. But I think there's too much sauce put on the fact that it's been the Rockies-Pirates-Nats. The Brewers aren't playing well. When that happens you're going to lose more than your share regardless of the opponent. This ain't the NFL. The 2023 team swept the eventual WS champs. On the road. And got swept by the A's. At home. That's why I harp on the consistency thing. How you're playing, not who. Megill couldn't land the breaking pitch when it would've almost certainly been effective. Blake Perkins gets to a 2-1 count w/a runner on 3rd & one out & can't touch the ball. But then I have to listen to Brian Anderson saying we "need a moment". No Brian, when you can't buy your way to glory you need fundamental consistency. Shut up.
  17. So, 2-7 in their last nine games. Finally a stretch of not playing well AND losing games on a consistent basis--something that's bit every other team in the division this year. Our turn, finally. Would've been nice to avoid it. Can't comment on much of the game as I missed the entire mid-section of it. One thing I saw was Blake Perkins swinging at a 3-1 pitch leading off the bottom of the ninth. He took a lot of heat & rightfully so for his popped up bunt a few weeks ago, his decision to swing there was almost as bad. I also saw his K in (I think) the 3rd inning w/runners on 2nd & 3rd and one out after getting ahead 2-1. From the limited amount of the game I saw those are some pretty hefty goat horns. Other than that, like I said it sucks but it's our turn. In past years when we've been in 1st place in May-June-July I've told people that there's a good chance we get challenged at some point, and we usually do. But what's more important is how you respond. What happens post-break is worth a million times more than what happened today, or this past week. In baseball that's the only attitude to have if you want to survive a season.
  18. I don't think we'll ever see him at 2B save for an emergency, but I agree LF is preferable to CF for him at least on paper. Boy would that be a disappointing development re Mitchell if Black were to slip out to the OF cold turkey & wind up acing Mitchell out of PT. With the lousy bat-to-ball contact so far, the narrative is "He's missed so much time, this is like spring training for him". It's possible. He'll be given time to get better I'm sure.
  19. Those numbers are SO much fun to read, especially the walks being reigned in.
  20. CF, 1B, CF..........would love to know the idea behind Tyler Black channeling his inner Ernesto Martinez lately. HAS to be someone, somewhere inquiring as to his OF plausibility, right?
  21. Jury is still out on Mitchell. He needs to stay healthy & get ABs. He had a nice mini-stretch in the rehab but has certainly been underwhelming so far.
  22. I don't know if they carry 2 or 3 catchers because I couldn't care less about the ASG but I'd love for him to catch 4 or 5 innings & call it a day. Even then I'm not thrilled about him flying to Texas, going through all the crap on Monday & Tuesday & flying back. At least they have Friday off too.
  23. The theory there is that Mitchell is, in theory and pedigree, much better than Bauers offensively. And they're going to give him ample opportunity to show that. Will it be rewarded? I dunno. He's showing much better discipline at the plate but is squaring up virtually nothing. Stay tuned I guess. Plus I think they're much more comfy with Frelick in a corner rather than CF. They're always going to put a premium on defense, and should. I would be surprised if we ever see Bauers start a game in the OF with the current roster setup.
