Wisconsin Press Release: Josiah Ragsdale Wins Midwest League Player of the Week Award Wisconsin outfielder on a tear GRAND CHUTE, WI – Josiah Ragsdale stayed hot last week for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to be named as the Midwest League Player of the Week for his performance in the series against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Ragsdale, MLB Pipeline’s #30 prospect in the Milwaukee Brewers system, extended his current on-base streak to 32 games as he helped lead the Timber Rattlers to a 5-1 record in the six-game series against the Kernels at Neuroscience Group Field. Ragsdale went 10-for-24 (.417) with two homers, five doubles, seven RBI, and nine runs scored in the set with Cedar Rapids. He had a 1.408 OPS in the series. Ragsdale ended his series with the Kernels on Sunday by going 2-for-3 with a homer, a walk, two RBI, and two runs scored. His home run was a lead-off shot in the first inning off Minnesota Twins pitcher Bailey Ober, who was making a rehabilitation start for Cedar Rapids. Milwaukee selected Ragsdale in the seventh round of the 2025 draft out of Boston College. During his 32-game on-base streak – the longest by a Timber Rattler this season, Ragsdale is 46-for-121 (.380) with twelve doubles, a triple, four homers, seventeen RBI, and 37 runs scored. He has also walked 24 times and stolen ten bases in 32 games with a 1.088 OPS. He is the third Rattler to win the Midwest League Player of the Week this season. Braylon Payne and Andrew Fischer have also won the award in 2026.

Via "Ro's" Sunday night Link Report: "Biloxi losing while limiting your opponent to two hits may appear like the main story here, but it’s more likely the injury delay and exit of RHP 25-year old RHP Tanner Gillis after issuing a full count walk to open the bottom of the 4th inning with the Shuckers leading 3-0. Pitching on four days’ rest, Gillis had held the Biscuits scoreless over nine innings this week, including three innings in this contest (3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 2 Ks). While we don’t have news on the exact nature of Gillis’ exit, we will share when we do." My "research": For archive subscribers, go to the 01:49:45 hour/minute mark here. Gillis threw a 1-1 fastball up for ball two, and although it was subtle, he immediately knew something was amiss. Catcher Matthew Wood came right out to the mound, and once the trainer arrived, Gillis (covering his mouth with his glove while on the mound discussing the situation) very quickly exited for the dugout. The whole incident lasted less than a minute. Have to be honest on this one, I couldn't fathom saying with any confidence at all beyond leaning ever so slightly towards an upper torso strain of some sort, but arm can't be ruled out.

Miller's promotion was prompted by Ramon Rodriguez's placement on the IL (undisclosed injury). Andrick Nava is fine as a third catcher, but was not likely seen as best to be Quero's backup. I would say that the Miller promotion would seem to indicate Rodriguez will likely miss more than just seven days, but we'll see.

So tragic, just heartbreaking and just one example of so much suffering due to the disaster, but one that touches home. Many of the current big-league Brewers and so many in the organization were teammates or support staff in Chirinos' nine-year career with the Crew (2016 - 2024). Chirinos is a former member of the Timber Rattlers, Shuckers and Sounds. He spent 2025 at AAA in Padres system and has played in Mexico this season.

It's not like Josiah Ragsdale is ancient. The 2025 7th round pick out of Boston College turns 23 in December. Kudos to Northeast Regional scout Steve DiTrolio and subsequently the player development staff, and of course, Ragsdale himself. Have to imagine scouts from across the baseball landscape are taking note of the versatile outfielder (20 games in CF, 37 in RF in 2026), forcing the Brewers to fully assess what they have in this young man. Trade piece or long-term homegrown Brewer, keep building value, Josiah. Not about to gloss over the exploits of others here, because Braylon Payne (HR, single), Eric Bitonti (double, single, three stolen bases), Luis Castillo (double, walk, sacrifice fly) all deserve their due, and every man in the lineup contributed. This video featured on the Brewers website is excellent because not only does it feature all four of Luis Pena's stolen bases (how's that hamstring, Luis?), but it shows how he reached base prior to each instance. Now, let's chat. Halterman caught all nine innings of this game. First pitch temperature was 106 degrees. Halterman was behind the plate for all 219 pitches thrown by the five Maryvale pitchers, including four pitches officially ruled as "wild". Catcher Eric Martinez remained in the bullpen throughout. Game time three hours, 52 minutes. I don't care what the official defensive stats will show, young Mr. Halterman, but there had better be some serious discussions among Brewers Player Development this morning for what you endured Friday night. It's just plain wrong and dangerous. By the way, at the plate, Halterman singled twice, drove in a run, and stole his 8th base of the season (11 attempts). Props. A box score like this lends itself to all you diehards dissecting every bit of data - the three home runs in the game (all off Maryvale bats) and well, the combined 26 free passes via HBP's and walks, etc. Excuse me for not breaking it all down here, it's simply too much. More madness ensued and a third pitcher in the frame, Carlos Canales managed to strand two of the three runners he inherited from Bodre. It was now 10-7 heading to the bottom of the 9h. Needing four to win, Guardian pitchers obliged without retiring a single Gold batter: walk, double, wild pitch, walk, walk, pitching change, game-winning walk-off three-run double by just-turned 17-year-old shortstop Santiago Garcia, his third hit and second double of the contest.
