Down in the count, 0-2, the North Shore first baseman was plunked by West Oahu starter Steve Johnson with two outs in the first inning of an eventual 8-3 victory for the Honu. "I didn't think much of it at the time," said Errecart, who went 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and scored three times in North Shore's opener. "I knew something was wrong after I couldn't remove my right batting glove, but I went back out there on defense. While tossing the infielders their practice grounders, I couldn't catch a single ball. The next thing I know, I'm leaving for X-rays." Errecart began his career at Rookie-level Helena, batting .316 with 13 homers and 61 RBIs. This season with Class A Advanced Brevard County, he hit .262 with 10 roundtrippers, 55 RBIs, 63 runs scored and 23 doubles. He batted .360 in April and had the first four-hit game of his career on Aug. 7. His regular-season success translated well to the postseason as the 22-year-old batted .276 and slugged two home runs and six RBIs for the Manatees, who fell to Clearwater in the League Championship Series, three games to one. "It's always disappointing when you can't play," he said. "It's especially frustrating after a good first game and what I felt was a strong full season at High-A. I feel like I made a lot of strides defensively and offensively this season, which was my first full season as a first baseman." Even though his second season is over, Errecart remains patient. He knows the long road back from recovery will have to wait until the removal of his cast, which won't be set until Monday. "I have to wait a bit now, and that's the worst part," he said. "I'm not sure exactly how the rehab process will go, but I'm already looking forward to swinging the bat again." Chris Errecart hit .262 with 10 homers and 55 RBIs for Class A Advanced Brevard County this year. (MiLB.com Photo by Jerry Hale) http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/images/2007/10/03/cUmWZ92o.jpg -

Honolulu Star Bulletin: Mat Gamel went 3-for-4 with two 2-run home runs to drive in half of the North Shore Honu's runs in an 8-3 win over the West Oahu CaneFires in Hawaii Winter Baseball at Hans L'Orange Park last night. Gamel homered in the seventh, and then added his second homer in the eighth, helping the Honu overcome a 2-0 deficit. Jonathan Lucroy batted 2 for 2 for North Shore, which swept the two-game series. Kevin Roberts threw two perfect innings, fanning two, to get the win for the Honu. Omar Aguilar allowed one unearned run in an inning of work, walking two. *** Honolulu Advertiser: Photos by JOAQUIN SIOPACK | The Honolulu Advertiser North Shore third baseman Mat Gamel, right, is greeted at home plate by Jamie Romak after hitting a two-run homer in the seventh inning against West Oahu. Link while active, text follows: http://starbulletin.com/2007/09/30/sports/story03.html Errecart gives Honu opening win By Jason Kaneshiro jkaneshiro@starbulletin.com A solid finish to the regular season in Florida carried over into a strong start to the Hawaii Winter Baseball season for Chris Errecart. The Milwaukee Brewers prospect went 3-for-5 and hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the fourth inning to lead the North Shore Honu to an 8-5 win over the West Oahu Cane Fires in the HWB season opener yesterday at Hans L'Orange Park in Waipahu. Errecart's opposite-field blast in the fourth inning cleared the 387-foot sign in right-center and banged off the scoreboard as the Honu rallied from a 5-0 deficit to claim the victory. "I don't care where you're at, what level you're playing in, if it's a spring training game or a fall game," North Shore manager Kevin Bradshaw said, "any time you can show you can come back, the confidence helps in games to come." Errecart's homer was the big blow in an 11-hit attack for the Honu and the bullpen protected the lead by surrendering just one hit and two walks over the final seven innings. Honu relievers Blair Johnson, Takashi Kamoshida and Charles Benoit combined to retire 16 of 17 West Oahu hitters from the third through eighth innings. After starter Shinya Nakayama was knocked around in West Oahu's five-run second inning, Johnson settled things down and picked up the win. Benoit was credited with a two-inning save. "You get to kind of cheat and see what they've been doing," Johnson, normally a starter in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, said of entering the game in a relief role. "It was more a matter of adjusting to the mound, and once that started happening I started locating my two-seamer down and getting ground balls." Johnson threw just 31 2/3 innings with Lynchburg this season, missing about two months with a torn labrum, and was assigned to the league to continue his comeback. "You don't learn when you're not on the mound, so this is just a huge learning experience," Johnson said. "Every day you go out and you get a feel for each pitch and hopefully you can take this experience into next year." While many of the HWB players had some down time following the end of their minor league seasons, Errecart didn't have much of a break. After playing in the Florida State League playoffs with the Brevard County Manatees, the first baseman went back to the Brewers' training facility in Arizona for more practice. The extra work appeared to pay off yesterday when he lined two sharp singles and gave the Honu the lead with his homer. "I ended the season pretty well there, so I think it really helped me coming in here," Errecart said. "My level of confidence is pretty high right now. "I think I was more surprised than anyone else," he said of the homer. "I just tried to get the ball in the air and get the runner in from third base and it happened to go over." West Oahu sent 10 batters to the plate in taking the lead with a five-run second inning. Ninth-place hitter Ryan Rogowski accounted for the first runs of the HWB season with a two-run double to left. Joshua Bell drove in two more with a double of his own. North Shore rallied with two runs in the third inning, then struck for four in the fourth. Cale Iorg, son of former major leaguer Garth Iorg, went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a stolen base. "The biggest thing was how we ran the bases," Bradshaw said. "We got some guys over to third base with less than two outs and we were able to get them in and get back in the game and then the big home run put us up." HWB's opening weekend continues today with the Honu and CaneFires meeting again at noon (5:00 PM Central, Live Video). *** "It was great," Errecart said. "It felt good to get out here again and start playing." The fifth-round pick in 2006 out of California-Berkeley is coming off his first season playing first base at High-A Brevard County, where he batted .262 with 23 doubles, a triple and 10 home runs with 55 RBIs. But he said he needs to get in as many reps at first base. "I always have to work on my defense playing around first base," said Errecart, who paced the Honu's 11-hit attack by batting 3 for 5. "It was my first full season there, so I've got a lot to work on." Box score here: Mat Gamel 0-for-2, Errecart 3-for-5, three runs, three RBI http://www.honoluluadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070930/SPORTS07/709300376/1032/SPORTS07 -

Remember, on the schedule below, look for HONU. Most, but not all of the games, will have live audio. Several games will have live video as well. When looking at the schedule, adjust by five hours ahead the time the game will be Central time. This is copied from the Hawaiian Winter League Site. I believe you'll need to create a login, which is free: Click on "Listen to Live Gameday Streaming": http://www.hawaiiwinterbaseball.com/ HWB Live Streaming Schedule This live streaming is brought to you courtesy of Honolulu's ESPN 1420 AM Radio. We do our best to accommodate all listeners. However, as a free service, support is limited to the FAQs listed below. Due to the wide variety of configurations for individual computers, Iamhawaii.com or ESPN 1420 AM is not able to respond to any calls or emails regarding streaming issues. Having trouble hearing the Stream? How do I stream on a MAC? Macintosh Users: Please refer to this link for options on Windows Media Streaming using Flip4Mac: www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx Please refer to your I.T. specialist on further Mac streaming questions. What do I need to listen to the live stream? Live streaming can run on any computer with a Windows operating system and a Windows Media Player. For Macs, see item above. I see the player, but I don't hear anyting. Please check the program guide. ESPN 1420 AM only streams local and game broadcasts, not ESPN syndicated shows. The program guide link can be found in the menu bar near the top of the page. Why is the live stream cutting in and out, and the player starts rebuffering? * During our live streaming periods, internet traffic is heavy at that moment. Rebuffering refers to the player awaiting more file packets to be received, which are slow in arriving because of internet traffic. * Live streaming is available to ESPN 1420 AM Radio during designated time segments. Note that ESPN national programming is not streamed so you will not hear any broadcast during ESPN national shows. I recently upgraded my browser and now the stream won't play. What can I do? The Windows Media Player needs a browser plug-in installed in order to work correctly. If you switch browsers, or install them in the wrong order, then the live stream may stop working. It is important that you install the browser before you install the players. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/default.asp How do I install Windows Media player? Using your browser go to the Windows Media Download site at www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download and follow the directions from there. I already have Windows Media installed, but the player won't work. What's wrong? You may need a newer version of Windows Media player than the one you have installed on your computer. For Windows OS, you must have version 6.4 or higher installed; for Macintosh you need version 6.3 or higher. If you don't have a recent enough version you will need to upgrade. If you use Netscape you may need to download a special plug in from Microsoft which is available under the 'Windows Media Tools and Services' drop down menu. I listen at work and I am having trouble hearing the live streaming. If you are behind a corporate firewall, you might have trouble using streaming media content. To overcome this problem, you will need to connect to the broadcast site from outside the firewall or ask your IT department for assistance. If you have a proxy server, you may need to change the settings in Windows Media player. I've read all the FAQs and I still can't listen to the streaming audio. As we are providing this service at no charge to our listeners, we are not able to provide additional support. 99% of the problems we have analyzed in the past have been because of specific configuration issues on listener PCs we have no access to or knowledge of. The 2007 Hawaiian League -- Latest: Top 15 Prospects
Jim Goulart replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
Here's the roster of the Honu, which includes the Brewers listed in the initial post in this thread, with the exception now of Lucroy for Salome: http://www.hawaiiwinterbaseball.com/teams/roster?team=Honu From Baseball Prospectus: The Brewers will be hoping for a rebound from first baseman Chris Errecart, as last year's fifth-round pick out of the University of California disappointed at Brevard County with a .262/.331/.392 line. The power was a question coming in, but most everyone thought he'd at least hit for average. The hot corner will be patrolled by another Brewer, Mat Gamel. One of the better hitters in the system, Gamel put up an impressive .300/.378/.472 line in the Florida State League, but he's playing winter ball to work on his defense after committing an embarrassing 53 errors this year. The bullpen will be led by a pair of intriguing Brewers arms, but none more so than Omar Aguilar. The 22-year-old righty is built like a fireplug at six-foot and roughly 225 pounds, but he also sits at 93-96 mph and has touched triple digits on occasion this year. He struck out 68 this year in 58 innings, but his violent mechanics are a concern, as are the related control problems. A fifth-round pick in 2005, righty Kevin Roberts thrived in a conversion to relief this year, touching 95 mph with his fastball and showcasing a plus curve while punching out 74 in 65 1/3 frames for Brevard County. *** Here's the schedule, with Honu's first game at 5:00 Central Saturday the 29th: http://www.hawaiiwinterbaseball.com/game_schedule -

From our friend rotoherb: According to Kevin Goldstein at BP, the Brewers have replaced Angel Salome with Jonathan Lucroy as one of the players they are sending to Hawaii this winter. -
Link while active, text follows: http://www.canada.com/victoriatimescolonist/news/sports/story.html?id=b44799fc-cbc5-4565-8a6a-e561229efb06 Green shows plenty of Power Courtenay native named Milwaukee Brewers' top minor league player Brian Drewry Victoria Times (Canada.com) This Saturday, Taylor Green will take his first steps on the lush, green grass of Milwaukee's Miller Park. He hopes they'll be the first of many. And the way the Courtenay native played ball this year for the single-A West Virginia Power -- he led the team in hitting with .327 average -- those hopes should turn into reality in just a few years, if not sooner. Green, who turns 21 in November, was just named the Milwaukee Brewers' positional player of the year for their entire minor league system -- A, AA and AAA. And the Brewers will honor Green -- a 2005 draft choice -- and their top minor league pitcher, AAA hurler Manny Parra, on Saturday prior to their game against the San Diego Padres. "It's an unbelievable honor and I still can't believe I won it," Green said over the phone from the Comox Valley, where he was taking in a few days of R and R at home before heading to Arizona last night for some work in the fall Instructional League. "I did have a good year, especially at the plate, and the team did very well going deep into the playoffs, so it was a fun season." His success with the Power, who play out of Charleston, was noticed by more than just the Brewers. On Friday night, Green received a call from Greg Hamilton, Baseball Canada's director of national teams, inviting him to play for the senior national team at the Baseball World Cup in November in Taiwan. The Baseball World Cup is held every two years and is open to all players except those on Major League Baseball rosters. Cuba has won the last nine tournaments. "I couldn't believe it actually. He said there's a roster spot waiting for me if I want it." Green obviously jumped at the chance to play for his country, but he can't pack his bags just yet. "I still have to clear it with the Brewers because they may have plans for me this winter, but if they say go ahead, I'm there." Green's solid year at the plate included his .327 average, which was fourth best in the South Atlantic League, 14 home runs and 86 RBIs in 111 games. His hitting and his stellar play at third base also helped him earn South Atlantic League mid-season and postseason all-star honors. And he helped the Power win the first half North Division title. In the postseason, the Power made it to the league championship series before bowing out in three straight games to the Columbus Catfish. "We got whooped in the final," said Green. "But Columbus was a good team, so all-and-all it was a good season for us." Green, who grew up playing baseball in the Comox Valley and for the Parksville Royals of the B.C. Premier League, will try to fine tune his hitting and third base skills while in Arizona for the next three weeks. The move from his usual middle infield spot to third took some getting used to, but he quickly got the hang of the hot corner. "It took some transition time because the ball gets to you a whole lot quicker at third," added Green. After quickly jumping from the Brewers' rookie league team in Helena, Mont., to West Virginia, Green hopes to start next season at the Brewers' AA team in Huntsville, Ala., and if he has his way he'll also be visiting Nashville, the home the Brewers' AAA team. "It's quite a big jump from single-A to triple-A, so I just want to have a good winter of training and be in top shape in the spring so I can have a good start. "Then, we'll just have to see how things go. My ultimate goal is obviously to be playing in the majors in two or three years and I think I made good strides toward that this season."

From Tom Haudricourt's blog entry (please excuse the typo "Manny Green" which opens it): http://blogs.jsonline.com/brewers/archive/2007/09/19/parra-green-honored-in-farm-system.aspx Congrats to both, we pretty much picked up on Taylor Green's exploits from the get-go, and certainly pounded you over the head with his numbers and accomplishments all season. Pounding that was worth noting, apparently. Potentially a place in the 2008 rotation for Gallardo, Villanueva, and Parra (at least by mid-season for Manny) -- incredible, after years of waiting, the system produces three potentially fantastic starting rotation options in short order. Awesome time to be a fan of this organization, just awesome.

Baseball America reports that the Brewers have signed OF Jose Garcia, not to be confused with the pitcher of that name who threw for Helena this year, or the former starting pitcher Jose Garcia who topped out at AAA in 2002. We won't know a thing about this Jose Garcia until next spring, but hopefully it's a successful under-the-radar Latin signing, like Edgar Trejo apparently was, because the higher profile Brewer Latin signings (Mercedes, Peralta, Pascual) haven't produced much as of yet, although Roque has had his moments.

I can't promise exactly when the National League portion will be complete, but you'll likely see me add one or two teams each day over the next week or so. Thanks for your patience. If you're aware of an alum who saw action with an American League organization in 2007 that I have not listed, please let me know within this thread, thanks. And feel free to comment within this thread, such as "hey, the Blue Jays may have themselves an inexpensive effective reliever in Brian Wolfe for the next few years -- they actually 'won' the Corey Koskie trade". Are the Cards three outs away from losing nine in a row? Man oh man. And this Carlos Marmol kid is going to torture us for the next decade in a Cub uniform. On the bright side, it's all about the loss column, and that number won't change (one behind) with a Cubs win. How many warning track flies have the Cards hit? Sheesh, this is ridiculous.
