  1. West Virginia Site Game Two Summary: CAPTAINS SWEEP DOUBLEHEADER Charleston, WV ? After scoring 12 runs on 19 hits in a 12-4 victory during the day, the Lake County Captains held the Power to a run on six hits and took the night cap of the doubleheader at Appalachian Power Park by the final of 5-1. The Power plated their only run on Taylor Green?s two out run-scoring single in the fourth inning. Shawn Ferguson had a no-hitter going until Carlos Rivero doubled with two outs in the fifth inning. Rivero scored later in the fifth to tie the game on Alex Castillo?s single. Cirilo Cumberbatch doubled in a run in the sixth inning and scored later in the frame on Roman Pena?s base hit. Rivero struck again in the eighth inning with an RBI double and Matt Whitney plated Lake County?s final run on a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning. Carlton Smith (4-5) got the victory while Jared Sutton (0-1) was tagged with the loss after surrendering two runs on three hits through two innings. Ferguson tossed five strong innings, allowing just a run on two hits with four strikeouts. The Power fell to 47-20 with the loss and the Captains improved to 31-38 with the win. Chuckie Caufield was the only Power player with a multi-hit game, as he recorded two of the Power?s six hits. The Power will finish the first half against Lake County Sunday evening. Left hander Mike Ramlow (2-2, 7.33) will start for the Power and the Captains will counter with right hander Steve Wright (4-7, 4.72). The first pitch is schedule for 5:05 PM (4:05 Central).

  4. Nashville Site Game Summary: Link for Callix Crabbe photo, text follows -- www.nashvillesounds.com/n...ewsId=2390 Déjà Vu! Sounds Walk Off Against Royals Again NASHVILLE ? Sounds second baseman Callix Crabbe hit a game-winning two-run homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Nashville a 7-5 win over the Omaha Royals, the club?s second last at-bat victory in two days. The blast, which came against Royals reliever and former Brewer farmhand Roberto Giron, was Crabbe?s fourth longball of the season and his second game-ending homer. He was 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs in the game. AUDIO: Callix Crabbe's Game-Ending HR -- www.nashvillesounds.com/a...6-16-1.mp3 Nashville (40-29) won its fourth straight game and logged its 13th victory in the last 17 contests. Sounds reliever Joe Thatcher (1-1) earned his first career Triple-A win by throwing two-thirds of an inning and striking out one. The Sounds scored the first run for a PCL-leading 44th time in the bottom of the first inning when Crabbe scored on a Joe Dillon sacrifice fly off of Royals starter Matt Wright. Dillon currently leads the team with 41 RBIs on the season. Omaha (33-36) tied the game in the top of the third inning on a Mitch Maier solo home run, his sixth of the season and second of the series. The Royals jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning by beginning with back-to-back singles from Bill McCarthy and Jorge Padilla. Paul Phillips then singled to load the bases before Derek Wathan would add a one-out, two RBI single in his Omaha debut. Phillips and Wathan both scored on wild pitches before Oxspring successfully struck out the side to complete the rough inning. The Sounds lowered the deficit in the bottom of the fifth when Jose Macias led off the inning with a double before Crabbe reached first base on a walk. Chris Barnwell then hit a line drive to left-center that bounced over the wall for an RBI ground rule double. Laynce Nix followed with a single that blooped into shallow left, allowing Crabbe and Barnwell to score. Nashville catcher Vinny Rottino tied the game against Giron in the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo shot off of the guitar-shaped scoreboard. It was Rottino?s seventh home run and second guitar shot of the season. He went 3-for-4 on the night with a pair of stolen bases and an RBI. With one out in the bottom of the ninth, Macias singled through the gap into left field before Crabbe hit a 2-0 pitch from Giron (0-3) over the right field wall to give Nashville its second consecutive last at-bat victory. Sounds starter Chris Oxspring, who entered the contest as the Pacific Coast League ERA leader, took a no-decision after tying a season high by giving up five runs in seven innings but struck out nine. The teams continue the series with game three of four on Sunday at 6 p.m. Sounds right-hander R.A. Dickey (4-4, 5.78) will make a spot start, filling the rotation slot of recently-promoted Yovani Gallardo, and square off against Omaha southpaw Nate Hoelscher (2-0, 3.79). Nashville Box Score: What a season for Callix Crabbe thus far in his first stint at AAA; Vinny Rottino three hits, two stolen bases -- he was behind the plate and Chris Oxspring did throw run-scoring wild pitches to consecutive batters in the 4th, neither ruled a passed ball -- for those of you wondering if Vinny would make more sense on the Brewer roster than Kevin Mench, Rottino has a surprisingly odd split vs. southpaws this season -- only a .482 OPS (9-for-45) in an acknowledged small sample... www.minorleaguebaseball.c...a_nasaaa_1 Nashville Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...a_nasaaa_1

  6. Final: Nashville 7, Omaha (Royals) 5 Details from Sounds site shortly... Wow -- walk-off two-run HR for Callix Crabbe to send the Sounds to a 7-5 victory! Vinny Rottino had homered in the 8th to tie the game. Chris Oxspring recovered nicely from some early trouble, and Steve Bray and Joe Thatcher more than fine in relief. Iowa is losing a tight game as of this post, there could be a first-place Sounds team in the morning.

  15. You're looking for this article which was linked in the Minor League Transactions thread earlier: www.pensacolanewsjournal....30350/1002 Gindl signed a contract -- a package of more than $200,000 -- with the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday and reported to the team's rookie club Monday in Phoenix. That basically would be the value of schooling the Brewers include in most high draft pick packages. Even at the lower pick levels, schooling is normally included, if I'm not mistaken, it's predicated dollar-wise on the cost of a state school public education generally.
  16. In progress: Lake County (Indians) 10, West Virginia 3, bottom of the 4th in Charleston Tough outing for Brae Wright today after two excellent starts -- a Brent Brewer error in the 4th didn't help, but that was only a small part of the problem; surely management was hoping for more in terms of innings, staff is pretty short right now, and tonight's nightcap is a nine-inning affair (day/night doubleheader)
  17. Infielder Brad Miller, 21, has joined the Power from extended spring training. He hit .200 in 185 AB's for Helena last year. OF Anthony Wycklendt moves to Helena. He was 0-for-6 with a walk in his brief stay with the Power.

  24. MiLB.com: INMAN IS OUT AND UP: Manatees fans hoping to see starting pitcher Will Inman may have been disappointed that he was a last-minute no-show to the All-Star festivities, but Brewers fans -- and likely Inman himself -- should be more excited than let down. Inman, who was in line to start the game for the Eastern Division after posting a 1.72 ERA and a league-leading 98 strikeouts in 78 2/3 innings, got promoted to Double-A Huntsville on Thursday. He didn't have to wait long to get a taste of the Southern League, getting the start in the second game of Friday's doubleheader against Birmingham. Things didn't go so well -- the Brewers prospect gave up six earned runs in 2 2/3 IP -- pehraps making Inman wish he could've stuck around in Florida a little while longer. But it certainly had to be a boost of confidence that the organization wanted him to join Huntsville as the Stars try to clinch the first-half title in the North Division. "Huntsville is vying for a playoff spot," Brewers director of player development Reid Nichols said. "If he can help them, he's well-deserving." With a doubleheader loss on Friday night, Huntsville is tied with Tennessee atop the division. Even though Inman wasn't able to come up with a win for the Stars, it's clear Nichols and the Brewers believed that Huntsville, not Daytona, was the place for the right-hander to be this weekend. "To put him in a playoff situation in Double-A is probably comparable to starting an All-Star Game in the Florida State League for him," Nichols said.
  25. No particular Manatees mentioned here: MiLB.com's Florida State League All-Star Game Preview FSL Home Run Derby, Skills Competition Excerpt: THEY'VE GOT SKILLS: In addition to the obligatory home run derby, the FSL added an interesting wrinkle to its All-Star Game festivities with a skills competition. A variety of players got to show off what they could do with their legs, arms and bats. First came the baserunning competition, with the fastest All-Stars seeing who could clock the best time going first to home. St. Lucie Mets outfielder Dustin Martin had the best time of 10.07 seconds -- barely edging Brevard County Manatees shortstop Alcides Escobar -- until the final participant, Lakeland outfielder Cameron Maybin took his turn. "I was a little skeptical at first when I found out what it was, when I found it was first to home," Maybin said. "It wasn't game speed, so I wasn't sure how I'd do." He did just fine. With a time of 9.98 seconds -- the only competitor to break the 10-second barrier -- Maybin won the event hands-down. "It's kind of like going home to third," he said. "My coaches have said I'm as fast as anyone they've seen going home to third. I tried to get a good turn around second. I made sure I was loose and made my strides work for me." The only thing that would've made it more interesting was if Maybin had attempted a speed-power combination by participating in the home run derby. He had a great time watching that event, but, truth be told, would've preferred to take his hacks. "I wanted to, I really wanted to," said Maybin, who has six homers and 19 steals this season. "They already had it picked, but I would've loved to participate in the derby. "I missed the Midwest League All-Star Game last year, so I'm having a blast this year."
