Link while active, text follows: www.al.com/stars/huntsvil...amp;coll=1 Huntsville manager doesn't miss anything Stars score only one run while Money is in Milwaukee MATTHEW NASCONE Times Staff Writer eintern@htimes.com As manager Don Money was honored with induction into the Brewers Walk of Fame in Milwaukee, the Huntsville Stars did nothing worthy of posterity Tuesday night, losing 10-1 to West Tenn at Joe Davis Stadium. It was the Stars' seventh loss in their last 10 games. Money was inducted into the Walk of Fame along with Harvey Kuenn. Ten other Brewers icons have been inducted, including Hall of Famers Hank Aaron and Robin Yount, since the tradition was started in 2001 with the opening of Miller Park. "It is a great honor for him; I remember watching him playing years ago when I was growing up," said Huntsville pitching coach Rich Sauveur. He didn't have as much fun watching the Stars on Tuesday. It didn't take West Tenn long to start the scoring in front of a crowd of 6,586. The Diamond Jaxx got four runs in the top of the second inning off the bats of Jose Reyes and Dwaine Bacon. Reyes knocked in a run with an infield single and Bacon hit a bases-clearing triple down the right field line. The Stars threatened to score on Diamond Jaxx starting pitcher Reynel Pinto in the second and third innings, but the threat was ended in each inning when they grounded into double plays. Pinto (6-2) allowed one run on seven hits, striking out two and walking one. Thomas Atlee and Ryan O'Malley combined to one-hit the Stars for the final two innings. Glenn Woolard (4-9) took the loss for Huntsville. He threw five innings, allowing six runs on six hits. He struck out seven and walked two. "I thought Woolard threw the ball exceptionally well; a key play in that second inning hurt us, but things like that happen," Sauveur said. "We have to bounce back and that didn't happen. "It was just one of those nights where we didn't make the right move and it came back to hurt us." The Stars got a run across in the bottom of the fourth inning as Brandon Gemoll reached on an infield single, scoring Enrique Cruz. West Tenn answered with two runs in the top of the fifth inning to make its lead 6-1. Casey McGehee knocked in Bacon with a single and Brandon Sing hit a sacrifice fly to left field, plating McGehee. Bacon was 2-for-5 on the game with two runs scored, three RBIs and a stolen base. After two innings of no scoring, Diamond Jaxx second baseman Aaron Sisk hit a home run over the center field fence in the top of the eighth inning. West Tenn added three more runs in the ninth inning with a Sing home run launched over the left field fence, pushing their lead to 10-1. Sing went 1-for-3 for the game with a home run, four RBIs, two runs scored and a walk. For the Stars, Enrique Cruz went 3-for-4 with a run scored. The Diamond Jaxx improved to 19-12 in the second half and moved into first place in the North Division, a half game ahead of Carolina, which fell in 11 innings to Chattanooga. Huntsville fell to 14-17 in the second half. -

Final: Lakeland (Tigers) 5, Brevard County 0 Brevard County Site Game Summary: Tigers Shut Out Manatees Team Stays Within One Game of First Place The Brevard County Manatees were unable to score any runs in being shut out by the Lakeland Tigers 5-0. After two games of worrying about the Tigers offense, it was the Tiger pitching that proved to be too much for the Manatees Tuesday night. Tigers starter Nathan Bumstead confounded the Manatees lineup with his deceptive wind up through six innings. He allowed only three hits and struck out four while improving his record to 11-2. Manetees starter Ryan Costello pitched six effective innings striking out five, and allowing only two earned runs on five hits and two walks. Offensively, Wandel Campana continued his hot hitting by going 2-4. The Manatees look to take the final game of the series against the Tigers tomorrow night at 7:00 pm (6:00 Central). Brevard County Box Score: Hard to generate offense when the heart of the order in Steve Moss, Adam Heether and Lou Palmisano goes 0-for-11 (one walk)... www.minorleaguebaseball.c...x_breafx_1 Brevard County Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...x_breafx_1 -

The Power scored the first run of the game in the top of the third inning on Hernan Iribarren?s RBI single to take a 1-0 lead. The Legends took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning on a two-run double from Lou Santangelo and an RBI double from Drew Sutton. The Power scored five times in the top of the fourth inning to regain the lead. Clay Blevins delivered a two-out RBI single and Adam Mannon hit his fourth home run of the year, a grand slam, the second of the season for the Power, and they went up 6-3. The Legends pulled within a run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-run homer from Bryan Triplett to make it a 6-5 ball game. Grant Richardson delivered an RBI double in the top of the fifth inning to give the Power a 7-5 advantage, but the Legends brought themselves within a run again, on Francisco Caraballo?s solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Iribarren drove in his second run of the game with a single in the top of the eighth inning to give the Power an 8-6 lead. The Legends scored twice in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game. Triplett knocked in the first run on a single, and Edwin Maysonet?s sacrifice fly tied the game at 8-8. Torbert delivered the two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. Ryan Thompson (3-4) earned the victory, and Ben Stanczyk (4-2) obtained the loss. The Power are 15-16 in the second half after the loss and the Legends move to 16-15 with the win. The Power will conclude the three game series against the Legends at Applebee?s Park on Wednesday night. Brevard County Site Game Summary: MANATEES SINK TIGERS Dillard Wins Again Good pitching and clutch hitting boosted the Brevard County Manatees to victory Monday night over the Lakeland Tigers, 7-5. A crowd of 1,959 watched as the Manatees scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to cap off a successful ?80's Night? at Space Coast Stadium. A day after giving up nineteen hits and fifteen runs, the Manatees pitching staff was able to hold off the Tigers for the win. Manatees starter Tim Dillard looked sharp despite surrendering three home runs in six innings. Landon Stockman pitched a perfect seventh, and Jeremy Lewis would pitch two scoreless innings to record his fifth save. The Manatees jumped on the board early with two outs in the first inning. After two two-out singles by Lou Palmisano and Adam Heether, Wandel Campana doubled to drive in Palmisano. Jeff Eure followed with a single to score Heether and Campana, and make it 3-0 Manatees. An Ozzie Chavez bases loaded walk in the third and a Drew Anderson RBI single would help put the Manatees on top 5-2. The Tigers would tie the game in the top of the fifth on a monster three-run home run by Garth McKinney over the batter's eye in centerfield. The Manatees would regain the lead for good in the sixth. After Steve Sollmann led off the inning by reaching on an error, Robby Deevers' double would put runners on second and third with none out. An RBI single by Travis Ezi, and a sac fly by Anderson would be all the Manatees needed to finish off the Tigers. The Manatees continue their homestand against the Lakeland Tigers tomorrow night at 7:00 PM (6:00 PM Central).

Morris sounds off again, this time for Nashville BY CRAIG SESKER OMAHA WORLD-HERALD STAFF WRITER It's been more than nine years since he hit arguably the most famous home run in College World Series history. But Warren Morris still feels nostalgic every time he walks into Rosenblatt Stadium and thinks back to that magical day in 1996 when his walk-off homer boosted LSU past Miami for the CWS title. "This place will always be special for me," Morris said. "It's neat every time I walk in here. It seems like the first thing I do is look down in that corner and think back to when I hit the home run. I remember how loud it was and how many people filled this stadium. It was exciting." Now trying to make it back to the major leagues as a member of the Class AAA Nashville Sounds, Morris snapped an 0-for-13 skid by slamming a two-run homer Monday afternoon to boost Nashville to a 7-1 Pacific Coast League baseball win over Omaha. Morris was 0 for 10 in his most recent visit to Rosenblatt before uncorking a drive to right-center field in the second inning. He added a single in the seventh on another smoldering day before 2,514 fans at Rosenblatt. "I think it's very important to jump way ahead of a team early when it's this hot," Morris said. "I think you can take a lot out of a team when you do that. It's tough to come back sometimes in this kind of heat." The Sounds led 2-0 before striking for three unearned runs in the second. After two quick outs, Nashville's Dave Krynzel struck out swinging. But the ball eluded Omaha catcher Paul Phillips and Krynzel reached base. Corey D. Hart followed with an RBI double before Morris went deep. Morris, 31, who logged time in the majors with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Minnesota Twins and Detroit Tigers, opened the season in the Cleveland Indians organization. He broke his right ring finger in spring training and was out two months. He was activated in late May and played five games for Class AA Akron before being released. He joined the Sounds last month after he signed as a free agent with the Brewers. In 33 games with Nashville, he is batting .256 with six homers and 21 RBIs. "I'm obviously looking for another opportunity to play in the big leagues," said Morris, whose 1996 CWS feat is honored with a statue outside Rosenblatt. "I've been around long enough to know it does you no good to try and figure things out yourself. I just go out here and play and do what I can." Nashville starter Ben Hendrickson (5-7), Milwaukee's minor-league pitcher of the year in 2004, earned the win. He allowed just one run in seven innings. He struck out four and walked one. "Ben was real effective with his fastball, curveball and changeup," Nashville manager Frank Kremblas said. "That makes it very tough on the hitters when a guy has all three pitches working. He's pitched well his last six or seven outings." Omaha starter Ryan Jensen (1-4) took the loss. He allowed five runs in three innings. Three runs were unearned. Royals infielder Luis Ugueto pitched a scoreless eighth, recording one strikeout.

Link while active, text follows: www.helenair.com/articles...605_02.txt Brewers shutout Mustangs with home run help By TOM STUBER - IR Sports Writer If you've got it all, why not use it? The Helena Brewers did just that as they combined pitching, hitting and fielding to drub Billings 12-0 in a key Pioneer League Northern Division matchup at Kindrick Legion Field. Helena pitchers Robbie Wooley and Dane Renkert combined on a two-hitter. The Brewers hit five home runs, including three three-run shots. They made just one error albeit with one out in the ninth. Helena is now 23-10 and moved a full four games ahead of Billings (19-14) in the first half pennant chase. Wooley went seven innings and struck out eight against just one walk. "It was our second shut out and it couldn't have come at a better time," Helena pitching coach Mark Littell said. "Wooley was super. He was efficient and effective. He took charge and that's what we needed." Wooley got all the support he would need from Helena's first batter. Charlie Fermaint ripped the second pitch he saw over the leftfield wall on a line. Wooley was rolling so well he was allowed to go a few pitches over the 80-pitch count that is standard for the Brewers. "All my pitches were working tonight," Wooley, who cites his fastball, curveball and change-up as his top pitches, said. "I threw a few balls with my change-up, but I kept it low. "It builds your confidence when you have a team like this behind you. Both with the bat and the glove." While Helena scored lone runs in the first and second it was a key series of events in the fifth that may have decided the game. Fermaint and Ryan Crew led off the fifth with a double and single, respectively to prompt Billings manager Rick Burleson to pull starter Aaron Garrison. The move proved to be a costly one as reliever Rafael Gonzalez was greeted by a three-run blast off the bat of Angel Salome. The blow gave Helena a 5-0 lead and the Brewers would collect three-run homers from Ned Yost in the seventh and Matt Gamel in the eighth to put the game out of reach. Kenny Holmberg, who also had two doubles, followed Gamel's shot with a solo round-tripper to cap off the scoring. "We played well tonight," Wooley said of the team's all-around play in what was possibly Helena's most complete game of the year. "We've got a good bunch of hitters and they do it in the field, too." Holmberg was as hot with the glove as he was at the plate. The second baseman took a hit away from Michael DeJesus in the fourth and also came up with back-to-back gems in the seventh. The teams play again tonight at 7:00 (8:00 Central) with Kevin Roberts (1-1, 1.96) on the mound for Helena and Phillipe Valiquette (0-0, 0.00) up for Billings. www.starsboxscore.com/ Just to show how balanced this game is....... Kris Honel, the White Sox' 11th best prospect and once their best pitching prospect, has struggled all year long. He comes in 1-5 with a 6.53 ERA. Against the Stars July 7 in that wild 19-15 spectacle, he gave up eight runs on nine hits in 2 2/3 innings........ Against Dennis Sarfate, who inherited the role of ace after Dana Eveland's promotion, it seemed like a mismatch........ But Honel was actually coming off a fine performance July 19 vs. Jacksonville, in which he gave up just two hits in six innings, although the Barons lost 2-1 after he left........ Which pitcher was the Stars going to face? That answer was misleading at the start when Tony Gwynn, Jr. was hit near the elbow by Honel's 2-2 pitch, sending him to his knees in pain........ Gwynn, a .282 hitter in his last seven games, was okay though........ Callix Crabbe lined a single past 2nd baseman Tommy Nicholson up the middle for a hit that would lead to the Stars' first run and a 1-0 lead, for when the next hitter, Brandon Gemoll, hit into a double play, Gwynn was able to move to third. (The Stars hit into three inning-ending double plays Saturday night.)....... Brad Nelson then snapped a 1-for-21 slump by lining a 2-2 curve into right field scoring Gwynn....... Enrique Cruz followed with a line drive single that fell in front of right fielder Ryan Sweeney, but Ben Van Iderstine flied out to leave the runners stranded........ The Stars stranded 11 in this game and have left 61 runners on base on this seven-game road trip. 19 of the last 35 they left on were in scoring position. The 1-0 lead was the last the Stars would have in this game....... The Barons scored two unearned runs in the 2nd inning after Cruz's throwing error tied the game. The Stars allowed five unearned runs in this game, the most allowed this season, and the most since June 19........ The difference would at least kept this game within reach, but such that it is........ In games in which the Stars made three or more errors this year, their record is 3-10 (.231)....... Their record isn't much better when they made one or two. It's 22-36 - a .373 pct. The Stars stayed in this game as late as the 7th inning when they were behind by a run, 4-3, but the opportunity was there for a greater inning........ The Stars loaded the bases on a single over the head of Nicholson by Nelson Castro, who went 5-for-13 in the Birmingham series, a bunt base hit by Jeff Winchester and a walk to Guilder Rodriguez....... That chases Honel. In comes Corwin Malone, a familiar nemesis from the 2002 season when the Stars were 9-14 against the Barons....... Junior's fly ball to Darren Blakely sent in Castro to pull the Stars within one run and Crabbe lined a single on a 1-0 pitch to right to load the bases again, but Malone struck out Gemoll, hitless in 11 trips in the series, on a change-up, and Nelson grounded out to end the inning....... The Barons added another run in the bottom half and finished off the Stars with a six-run 8th off Alec Zumwalt......... That made Kris Honel a winner for the first time since April 18th. The Stars are now two games under .500 after losing their 7th game of their last 10....... They hit .215 on the road trip........ Nelson Castro, Callix Crabbe, and Enrique Cruz hit .294, .304, and .300 respectively in the series, Brandon Gemoll hit just .250 and Tony Gwynn, Jr. .265, but together they drove in five runs apiece. But Brad Nelson, Vinny Rottino, Ben Van Iderstine, and Jeff Winchester combined to go 15-for-100 on the trip........ Dennis Sarfate lost his 4th straight game and has not won in his last five starts, although he has an ERA of 4.04......... Though Rottino has hit just .202 in July, he's drawn nine walks, more than any previous month....... Gwynn, Jr. is hitting .205 in July, but has hit .286 in his last nine games....... Enrique Cruz has only one RBI in his last 12 games and only two extra-base hits for the month........ The Stars now have just three home runs on the road in their last 14 games. The Stars take Monday off before they return back to the Joe to face the first place Diamond Jaxx, against whom they're 4-6 this year. Renyel Pinto is scheduled to start the series for WT. Mobile pitcher Travis Chick was one of the two minor league pitchers the Padres sent to Cincinnati to get Joe Randa (a former Southern League 3rd baseman with Memphis)........ Chick, the Padres' top pitching prospect, strugged with the Bay Bears, going 2-9 with a 5.27 ERA in 19 starts. In four starts against the Huntsville Stars this season, he was 1-2 with a 9.64 ERA, but we'll have a chance to pick his tree some more when the Lookouts come into the Joe, August 16-19 and then again at the end of the season in a road-home series. After a hot .341 start with Helena, Ryan Braun, the Brewers' # 1 draft pick this year, is hitting .267 with two HRs and 10 RBIs (his Rookie League numbers) for Class A - West Virginia (SAL)........ 3rd round pick (the Brewers did not pick in the 2nd round) Will Inman is 2-0 with a 5.73 ERA in five appearances with Helena, and 3rd baseman Matt Gamel is pounding the ball at a .318 clip with seven doubles for Helena........ The Helena Brewers, stocked with this year's draft picks, are atop the Pioneer League's Northern division with a 22-10 record. Looking at the progress of some former Stars, Jeff Deardorff is hitting .242 with 14 HRs and 36 RBIs in 76 games for Tampa Bay's top farm club in Durham (Int'l.)....... Derek Lee is 1-1 with a 4.25 ERA in six PCL starts for the Oklahoma Redhawks. He got his win in a complete game three-hitter over New Orleans, July 20. On the Redhawks' website is a fan poll asking who is the team's most unsung hero. D. Lee is one of four choices. Derek leads the balloting with 59% of the vote....... The Bridgeport Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League 10 days ago re-signed outfielder Jamie Gann, who flopped with the Montgomery Biscuits......... For years I wanted to see the Stars' history come alive at Joe Davis Stadium, and it looks like Stars' Promotions Director Matt Price has taken steps....... The outfield wall in left field is now adorned with three stars commemmorating each of Huntsville's three Southern League Championships. Clearly seen from the concourse behind home plate are the years of each (1985, 1994, and 2001) written boldly in the middle of each Star........ After more than 20 years of history, Matt also wants to start retiring some uniform numbers and marking them at the stadium. Right now, only Jose Canseco's number, # 44, has ever been retired by the Stars. It was retired, June 4, 1987 and resides in a case at the Stars' front office at Joe Davis Stadium. No decision was made, but some well-known names were tossed, such as Mark McGwire (# 25 I believe), Scott Brosius (now Bibbs' # 14), and Walt Weiss (Jeff WInchester's # 21)........ There was also some talk at lunch with Mr. Bryan Neece and Mr. Price over next year's bobbleheads with the idea of a fan vote to give bobblehead status to a stadium employee, past or present, or a fan. One player I suggested was Jared Mathis........ An idea was also brought up to frame each Huntsville Star that has made it to the majors. It would have to have a huge frame, because there are, counting Dana Eveland, 152 since Charlie O'Brien became the first in 1985........ The Mobile Bay Bears just had their 60th former player, pitcher Clay Hensley, go up to the majors last night. Hensley is the 5th to go up this year. Final: Helena 12, Billings (Reds) 0 RHP Robbie Wooley's had his struggles this year, but this qualifies with any performance we've seen this season as a "Start of the Year" candidate, right up there with the best from Taubenheim, Villanueva, Dillard, Eveland, etc. -- good Billings team, slight wind blowing out, trying to hold on to first place -- here's hoping Robbie's got it all figured out now... Helena Box Score: Let's not overlook the error-free play by the H-Crew; three three-run HR's, two solo shots for the boys; two doubles and a HR for Kenny Holmberg; Matt Gamel on base four times; Charlie Fermaint just amazing. Does Helena deserve this team? 948 in attendance -- still dead last in the league, "small market" or not, that's poor... www.minorleaguebaseball.c...k_helrok_1 Helena Game Log: www.minorleaguebaseball.c...k_helrok_1
