Carthage Player Page The Lake County Corn Dogs, a pre-professional team, count Schaum as an alumnus and congratulated him on signing with Milwaukee Final: ACL Brewers 6, ACL Royals 1 Box Score and Game Log Three pitchers combined on a three-hitter for the A-Crew. After being a stalwart of the 2024 Carolina Mudcats staff (21 appearances, all starts), January 2022 international signing Daniel Corniel (Venezuela) made all of one three-inning relief appearance for the 2025 Timber Rattlers before landing on the full-season injured list. Fantastic bulk relief outing in his 4th appearance for 19-year-old RHP Ma'Kale Holden, the 20th round pick out of an Alabama high school ($410,000 bonus to forgo the University of Alabama), and Holden's game log will show that he's managed to work around 13 free passes (12 BB, 1 HBP) nicely through 17.2 IP thus far. Maryvale scored thrice in the 4th to grab the lead and effectively win the game at that point. Luis Pena is still in Arizona, and he had an infield single to begin things in the frame. After the KC infield botched a fielder's choice grounder and a Kenny Fenelon stolen base placed runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs, things turned shaky when both Cristopher Acosta and CJ Hughes struck out. Three consecutive Brewers then drew walks to plate two runs. 19-year-old LF Engel Paulino lined a single to left (no Statcast readings for this game) to make the score 3-0. In the 5th, Pena lined a one-out triple to center field (a man among boys at this level, folks). After Fenelon's fly out failed to go deep enough to score Pena, the KC staff assisted again by bringing Pena home on a wild pitch. Another gift was received in the 6th when a passed ball set up Jonathan Rangel for an RBI line drive single. Paulino, who signed for a modest $170,000 in January 2024, capped a fine evening with his first HR of 2026 (3rd career blast) in the 9th. He now sports a .740 OPS as a pro in 108 games. Catcher Luis Corobo has started 11 games between Wilson and now-Maryvale and has been charged with eight errors. His fielding page will show that this was less of an issue in 2025. Right fielder Alexander Frias' precautionary absence (reported as a rolled ankle) continued on Monday. The Maryvale boys, now 7-10, host the rival Cubs at 8:00 PM Central Tuesday. The Cublets have struggled to a 5-12 mark thus far. WARBIRDS NOTEBOOK: Wilson’s play peaks in 12-game homestand During a 12-game homestand, the Wilson Warbirds have surged to 23-22 and a tie for second in the Carolina League North behind improved offense, solid pitching and strong clubhouse chemistry By Paul Durham, Wilson Times As May heads into June, the Wilson Warbirds are playing their best baseball of the Single-A Carolina League season thus far. Despite coming up short in a 4-3 loss to the Delmarva Shorebirds in the second game of a doubleheader Sunday, May 24, at Wilson Ballpark, the Warbirds went into Monday’s off day with wins in eight of their last 10 games and stand 23-22 (.521) and tied for second place with the Hill City Howlers in the North Division. “It seems like it’s a different guy, like every game, or a couple different guys,” said manager Eddy Morgan. “It’s not one or two guys carrying us, particularly on the offensive side, even on the pitching side.” Wilson’s pitching has been solid all season as the Warbirds rank fourth in the Carolina League with 450 strikeouts although their team ERA has slipped to ninth at 4.66. Jarrette Bonet, who earned the Milwaukee Brewers Minor League Pitcher of the Month for April, has been stellar, if not consistent, while another right-hander, Carlos Carra, has been resilient despite losing his first five decisions. Nearly everyone on the staff has had a lights-out performance along with a not-so-memorable one. “It’s like different pieces when you have them, when you can get production from your bullpen, from the starters, from up and down the lineup on different days,” Morgan continued, “then I think everybody’s like, hey, if I’m not going well, they don’t necessarily feel the pressure that they have to carry us.” Offensively, however, is where the Warbirds have improved the most. From ranking at or near the bottom of most significant offensive categories, Wilson sits sixth in runs with 229 and RBIs with 196. The Warbirds are still at the bottom of the league in team batting at .211 and slugging percentage at .335 but the latter number should grow as they settle into hitter-friendly Wilson Ballpark. Individually, outfielder Pedro Ibarguen and shortstop Brady Ebel have led the May turnaround. Ibarguen now is hitting .314 with a .429 on-base percentage and .442 slugging percentage overall after posting .373/.492/.569 in May so far. Ebel is hitting .324/.443/.521 with 14 RBIs, two homers and 13 stolen bases so far this month. That boosts the No. 32 overall pick of the Milwaukee Brewers last summer to .242/.388/.362. Center fielder Jose Anderson leads the Carolina League with 10 homers while ranking fifth with 30 RBIs. He also leads the league with 76 strikeouts. The Warbirds have shown a penchant for striking out with 477 but that number ranks fourth after Wilson led the Carolina League in that category for much of the early going. Still, the players seem to shrug off the strikeouts. “For as young as they are, it’s a very mature group,” Morgan said. “They don’t let frustration boil over too much. They don’t have bad body language, for the most part. Where you can see maybe some other teams, when they get down a little bit, it’s like a lot of that.” DONE WITH DELMARVA After a home series and an away series against Delmarva, the Warbirds won’t play their North Division foes again in the regular season as a quirk of the Carolina League scheduling. Wilson will play North foes Hill City and Salem twice more, including the next homestand against the RidgeYaks, after already playing each of them twice. The Warbirds have not met North and Carolina League leader Fredericksburg Nationals but will see them three times starting in late June. Wilson is playing its first games against a South Division foe as it visits the Myrtle Beach Pelicans this week. The Warbirds will host series against South foes Charleston, Kannapolis, Columbia and Hickory this summer. ‘BIRDS VIBIN’ One aspect of these first Warbirds is their love for the game and affection for one another. Given that they are group of 18-to-22-year-olds thrown together, the camaraderie in the dugout and throughout the clubhouse is evident. “The clubhouse vibe is really good,” Morgan said. “Seems like they all get along, they’re all pulling for each other, but I got to give kudos to our coaching staff.” Morgan, in his first season of professional baseball after two decades as a college head coach in Wisconsin, lauded his staff of hitting coach Jose Garcia, pitching coaches Paul Moeller and Jesus Hernandez and bench coach Ricky Carvajal along with trainers Matt Pawlik and Tyler Shumake and strength and conditioning coaches Emily Young and Matt Gallo. “Jose is doing a tremendous job with the hitters, keeping them nice and calm,” Morgan said. “Ricky, our bench coach, is doing a great job with our infielders and I believe we have the best infield defense in the Carolina League.” Morgan paused and grinned before bringing up Moeller. “And then obviously Paul,” he said. “Paul’s a little fighter, so I love it, so he balances us guys up that are pretty stable. He’s doing an accurate job getting those pitchers ready, so, and our trainers, our strength people — I think it just has to be everybody, so not just the clubhouse, but the coaching staff as well. I think we’re all on the same page, and playing on the road is going to be tough, but we’ll see if we get some momentum off this homestand and keep it rolling.”

Via the T-Rats: Rattlers Rained Out in Great Lakes Teams will play a doubleheader when Loons visit Wisconsin in June MIDLAND, MI – Sunday’s series finale between the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and Great Lakes Loons at Dow Diamond was rained out. The game has been rescheduled at a to be determined date as part of a doubleheader during the Loons visit to Neuroscience Group Field in June. Great Lakes is set to visit Neuroscience Group Field from Tuesday, June 9 through Sunday, June 14. Great Lakes will be the home team on the day that the rescheduled game is played. The Timber Rattlers are off on Monday. They return to action on Tuesday at Neuroscience Group Field with game one of a seven-game series against the Peoria Chiefs. Game time is 6:40pm CDT.

Not used among true relievers: Bowman, Bukauskas, Fernandez, Knehr, McGee. That's just to point out that Manager Rick Sweet's current mix of arms is very long on bullpen types. Southpaw Thomas Pannone makes his 2nd start of the series on traditional four days' rest on Sunday, he allowed four runs in four innings Tuesday (an eventual 6-5 Nashville win). I'm of the opinion that a box score can be appreciated a bit more by noting who didn't play - for this night, it was Eddys Leonard, Akil Baddoo, Jeferson Quero and Freddy Zamora with a bench view of the contest. Luis Lara, what can we say? Now, his base hit was an infield single (74.8 MPH) and his sacrifice fly was a "get-the-job-done" variety flyout at 84 MPH, but he also walked twice. Add it all up and his OPS rose from .945 to .949. All nine Nashville knocks were singles, two belonged to Cooper Pratt and one to Jett Williams, for all you big-league roster tracking hopefuls. Here's the one highlight not within the game summary: Braylon Payne was idle for a second consecutive game, and yes, we're guilty of reading too much into such things. Eric Bitonti and Marco Dinges were among the bench players here, scheduled days off, though we're still hopeful to see Dinges defensively behind the plate again by Tuesday, it's been an extended stretch of DH-games only for him. A bit of perspective - yes, the defensive value differs, but the Tigers' Kevin McGonigle's 2025 line which included the Midwest League and also 46 games of AA action was .305/.408/.583, as Biloxi certainly awaits Adamczewski. Only on a roster with beast-mode Andrew Fischer, an anticipated exciting return of Luis Pena, and Adamczewski would Josiah Ragsdale's season be undersold. Check out his May splits! By the way, switch-hitting INF/OF Luiyin Alastre since re-joining Wisconsin April 28th (16 games): .282/.462/.462 (.924 OPS). T-Rat arms with a very mixed bag: 10 walks, 12 strikeouts, two wild pitches and a 3.00 ERA plus the "W" on the night. Your box score review will fill you in. It's all about the attempt repetition and not the situational awareness. Pena would strike out swinging in his next two at-bats. Pena led off the bottom of the 7th - doubles on a ground ball to shortstop, deflected by the third baseman. Pena lifted for a pinch-runner at this point, no mention of an injury delay. The A-Crew managed only five hits but drew nine free passes (8 BB's, 1 HBP). That all led to an 0-for-11 afternoon with RISP, ugh. 18-year-old infielder Moises Polanco (turns 19 in six days) has only played in seven games but is making the most of his time. He reached in all three trips here and sports a pretty .450/.593/.600 line (1.193 OPS). Polanco is coming off a darn fine repeat DSL season where he OPS'd .853. Please find more playing time, thanks. RH starter Hayden Robinson pitched on four days' rest and though he's allowed a home run in each of his three mound efforts thus far, this was better work than Tuesday's. The better bounce back effort was by 18-year-old Nicaraguan RHP Diustin Mayorquin, who was surprisingly touched up one week ago exactly. And yes, remember the name (posts are from earlier this month): Five games on tap for Sunday with the Wilson double dip. Maryvale boys working on their Sunday golf games as is the norm. Yes that should have said Luis, I correctly typed that in four locations but mis-typed that one instance. Little available video-wise from Knoth from this road game outside of this one pitch. Despite that miscue on the highlight, the run was earned because a subsequent ground rule double would have scored the run regardless. Knoth’s line from the box score - 2 IP, 2 H (one the double), 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K, half his 48 pitches for strikes. Knoth’s final out in his second inning came via a baserunner being caught attempting to steal. I am reporting on six games for tonight’s report but will find time to pull up the archive to get a few speed gun readings for folks later on.

DSL Brewers Gold released RHP Albert Vargas Vargas turned 20 years old this past Monday. A native of Venezuela, he had only signed in April of last year, not as part of the January 2025 signing class. The linked player page above documents his general struggles over 15 relief appearances in 2025. We'll give him a shoutout and wish him well by spotlighting his career-best performance last July 26th.
