  7. Sunday 8/24: Via the Journal Sentinel Podcast: "The Brewers delivered a sensational tribute to Bob Uecker on Sunday, but it was only a 3-5 week on the field coming off the magical 14-game winning streak. Brewers reporter Curt Hogg and host JR Radcliffe dive into an up-and-down week that saw a 9-game lead in the division dwindle down to five. Should Brewers fans be worried? The Cubs continue to demonstrate that they're a great team, and a bad matchup. What's up with the rotation lately, particularly Jacob Misiorowski after another blowup inning? Joey Ortiz's injury shines a spotlight on how short this team is in the middle infield. Even though the day ended in a tough loss, the Brewers' celebration of Uecker marked another high point in the Brewers' hot streak of ventures that go beyond the games themselves. In Three Up Three Down (51:30), Willy Adames returns with a vengeance, Brice Turang's huge run continues, William Contreras takes a long stroll around the bases and a dash of Jesús Made. In Remembrew When (1:11:30), it's more Uecker memories and in Curt Blanche (1:15:30), Curt tries to give his most refreshing take. Then, JR sits down with Kent Sommerfeld (1:21:30), the sound engineer for the past 40 years on Brewers broadcasts. They talk, of course, about Bob Uecker and the job of bringing Brewers radio magic to life.

  10. Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic Transactions: DSL Brewers Blue released RHP Lenin Mendez (pro career noted in our Transaction Forum Thread here). Another move is not official as of yet, but we noted that the Brewers have signed a non-drafted outfielder to his first professional contract. Final: Louisville (Reds) 13, Nashville 4 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Hoskins and Cameron Go Back-To-Back, Sounds Out-Hit in Loss to Bats As usual, there are multiple nuggets within the linked summary worth your consideration. LH starter Bruce Zimmermann has done yeoman's work in a season in which the lack of availability from so many others due to call-ups, injury, etc. have thrown multiple monkey wrenches into Manager Rick Sweet's rotation plans. Not Zimmermann's night here. It's going to take the rest of the AAA season to pretty up LHP Brian Fitzpatrick's Nashville ERA after a disastrous August 9th debut, but his game log reveals that he's back on the cusp of 40-man roster consideration prior to Rule 5 this fall. Speaking of "not his night" - Joel Payamps. Making just under $3 million for 2025, surely, he'd rather be in Milwaukee, but tough to sympathize compared to those truly on the edges of the MLB minimum vs. the $50-$60K AAA standard. Jackson Chourio working out the kinks at 0-for-7, one BB, 3 K in two rehab games. On the subject of rehabbers, good for Rhys going deep for the second time in three games. Maybe it's me, he looks thicker than ever. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 11, Chattanooga (Reds) 1 Box Score and Game Log Catch up with the latest Biloxi pre-game audio interview archives DeBerry Strikes Out 9, Shuckers Offense Keeps on Truckin' on Grateful Dead Night - Shuckers set season-high with 8-run sixth inning, Lara makes history in win All for good reason, the Biloxi 'X' timeline may be their most packed of the season. Do fully indulge, please. One tough note first - Bottom of the 7th - Eric Brown Jr. grounds out, second baseman Edwin Arroyo to first baseman Ruben Ibarra. Via our in-game thread: "Uh-oh. Brown hit a grounder and while running to first he started limping. Hopefully just a cramp" Did go back to the archive (03:13:40 hour/minute mark for MiLB.TV subscribers). Brown hopped his way to 1st base after making it cleanly three-quarters of the way there and immediately made his way to the dugout. Always are impressed with our minor league diehards - the heads-up came from @duewizard as he was watching a 10-0 contest. Our readers are the best. There should be a more equitable way for college seniors to be compensated in the draft despite the "no leverage" status. RHP Jaron DeBerry signed for $25,000 as the Brewers 3rd round pick in 2024 out of Dallas Baptist. DeBerry did make huge strides coming off his junior season as the linked Baseball Reference page will show. Good for the Brewers, especially since DeBerry is a man on DeMission now. Yes, I look forward to a decade of DeBerry puns. Every so often there's a highlight you just hit play on like 30 times trying to figure out exactly what happened: Voice of the Shuckers Javik Blake is very good at noting statistical benchmarks - sometimes there is a bit of cherry-picking in the parameters, but you can't fault Javik for putting a respectful shine on player accomplishments. That being said, the Luis Lara benchmark here is impressive. Given the age, the defense, and Southern League atmosphere, we have to look way beyond the .718 OPS. Perspective, everyone, and kudos to Luis: Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes (download link) Final: Beloit (Marlins) 2, Wisconsin 0 Box Score and Game Log Sky Carp Keep Rattlers in Check - Wisconsin falls 2-0 with just two hits Thank goodness the Marlins' low-A team is in the Florida State League and doesn't play the Mudcats, because between AAA Jacksonville, AA Pensacola, and Beloit, it's clear the Miami organization is heading in the right direction, and Brewers affiliates get their fill during the regular season. As noted in Chris Mehring's game summary and also on our forum thread - via a fan on-site in Beloit, LF Luis Castillo was also injured on his way to first base, lying prone beyond the bag and helped off the field. Again, for subscribers, go to the 02:43:40 hour/minute mark of the archive. The announcer speculation was initially a hamstring injury but that was just that, speculative. I don't believe we ever learned the nature of Castillo's extended earlier absence (April 14th until July 15th rehab in Arizona), so this upcoming additional time sidelined must be devastating for the 21-year-old, who will be 22 in October. Fischer-Made-Pena-Dinges looks pretty in the pre-game lineup sheet, two singles and a walk among them, but six K's as well. RHP Bishop Letson got up to 41 pitches, and LHP Sam Garcia did well to save the pen for the balance. Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final, Game One: Salem (Red Sox) 2, Carolina 0 Box Score and Game Log Final, Game Two: Carolina 11, Salem 6 Box Score and Game Log NOTE: Each game seven innings as scheduled. Mudcats Split Doubleheader at Salem The entire position player was utilized in the twinbill, each receiving a start, and no player exited for injury, so that at least breaks this report's cycle. One of three Brady Ebel's knocks on the night: Here's Jose Anderson's RBI single scoring Josiah Ragsdale, and thankfully Ebel was not injured at home though he was called out also trying to score: There are two additional highlights atop the Mudcats' 'X' timeline this AM, and if you haven't determined yet, all the highlights are from the nightcap ?. As you review the pitching lines as Carolina navigated 13 innings on the evening, you'll find RHP's Joshua Quezada and Jayden Dubanewicz to be the most impressive. Really hope we get to see Dubanewicz on a postseason mound - as our Joseph Zarr pointed out in the forum thread: "Muddies gained 1/2 G on the Fred Nats tonight with their 1-1 split. They are now 0.5 G outside the division lead." Two afternoon and two evening affairs on Sunday as we finally get back to a standard scheduled four-pack of action. 12. I acknowledge your feedback, but at least for one night San Diego had no issue starting him with first place on the line and appreciated his presence. Even in the recent game when Cortes surrendered the three first inning HR's, he settled in for 4.2 scoreless after.
  13. Mendez is another member of the January 2023 international class who won't graduate stateside after three seasons in the DSL. All 46 of the 6'3" pitcher's appearances (covering 71.2 innings) were out of the bullpen. Other than limiting home runs (3), the various peripherals you'll see at that player page link are lacking. Mendez, a Dominican native, turns 21 years old in September.
  14. From our Draft Forum, back on July 15th, the lone other NDFA position player (I may be mistaken) was discussed by Spencer here.

  17. Image courtesy of BrewerFanatic Transactions: Milwaukee Brewers sent CF Jackson Chourio on a rehab assignment to Nashville Sounds. Nashville Sounds returned 1B/OF Jake Bauers to Milwaukee Brewers, ending rehab assignment. LHP Tucker Davidson signed to a minor league deal and assigned to Nashville Sounds. RHP Abdiel Mendoza assigned to Biloxi Shuckers from Nashville Sounds. Nashville Sounds transferred LF Jimmy Herron to the Development List. Biloxi Shuckers activated RHP Tyson Hardin from the 7-day injured list. DSL Brewers Blue released RHP Luis Velasquez. DSL Brewers Blue released SS Joan Gutierrez. DSL Brewers Gold released RHP Saul Sanchez. DSL Brewers Gold released OF Pedro Tovar. You'll find a detailed farewell to the young DSL players in this forum post. Final: Nashville 8, Louisville (Reds) 4 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Five-Run First Inning Lifts Sounds Over Bats I am blatantly pilfering this paragraph from the detailed game summary linked above for emphasis: "Jeferson Quero has arguably been playing the best baseball of his professional career over the last two weeks, and that continued in Friday night's game against the Bats. Fresh off a 2-for-4 night with a double and an RBI, Quero began Friday with a go-ahead three-run homer to center field. Over the last two weeks, Quero is 13-for-30 (.433) with three homers and 13 RBI. The Brewers No. 4 prospect is currently going through a season-long hitting streak of eight games and season-long on-base streak of 11 games. This is Quero's longest hitting streak of his career since putting up an eight-game hitting streak in 2023 with Double-A Biloxi from June 24 - July 4." Quero's final minor league option year is 2026, but my goodness, a William Contreras-Quero MLB catcher tandem is going to be fun - if William ever lets Jeferson play, that is. Is it possible Quero's at-bats will be limited in number for two years until Contreras exits after 2027? Still a bit confounded by the targeting of Brandon Lockridge at the deadline. Jared Oliva is a year and a half older, sure, but is essentially the same player. The pun-master on the Sounds media team continues his 2025 season: Welcome back to Nashville, Jackson Chourio, you barely know the place (again, see the game summary for the reminder on his limited AAA career). Not a stellar arrival from Korea for starting pitcher Tucker Davidson, but my goodness, behold those 7.1 innings of relief work in the box score. Rest day for Rhys Hoskins. The Reds have reason to worry about previously heralded starter Chase Petty's 2025 performance, both at AAA and in MLB. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final, Game One: Biloxi 7, Chattanooga (Reds) 4 Box Score and Game Log Final, Game Two: Biloxi 3, Chattanooga 2 Box Score and Game Log NOTE: Each game was played to completion in seven innings as scheduled. Catch up with the latest Biloxi pre-game audio interview archives Pratt, Spain Lead Heroics in Shuckers Doubleheader Sweep Against Lookouts - Pratt records walk-off double in game two, Spain smashes go-ahead grand slam in game one Enhance your full experience of the evening in Mississippi by reveling in eight sweet game highlight videos via the Biloxi 'X' feed here. Lara added two singles, a walk, and three RBI to his season totals: But in so many ways, this evening belonged to Cooper Pratt: Manager Joe Ayrault made sure all available players saw action in the twinbill, with only sidelined catcher Darrien Miller and infielder Mike Boeve idle (neither on an official injured list). Miller's absence is seemingly directly related to a catcher's interference instance on August 13th, while Boeve last played on August 7th, a game in which he was the designated hitter and was lifted after his second plate appearance, a popout to the catcher. (By the way, I did perform due diligence and attempted to view the 3rd inning Boeve pop-out on the archive, but the Knoxville MiLB TV feed that night didn't begin until the bottom of the 5th.) There was no indication upon Mark Manfredi's relief appearance for Tyson Hardin after just one inning, that there was anything more to the brief outing (21 pitches) than Hardin's six-week layoff. As noted in the game summary, Shuckers batters fanned only five times over the 12 innings in which they came to the plate on the night. Refreshing! Though Biloxi bats have fared pretty well in that regard, third fewest K's in the Southern League this season. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes (download link) Final: Beloit (Marlins) 4, Wisconsin 2 Box Score and Game Log Beloit Beats Wisconsin 4-2 - Rattlers miss opportunities in tough loss No video supplied by the Sky Carp, so we rely on the Rattlers for any views, and they come through, even in the road game loss so well documented at the link above: Jesus Made and his 14-game Wisconsin line of .357/.438/.607 was riding the pine, for which we - and anyone who traveled to Beloit for the game - were saddened. RHP Ryan Birchard has allowed only 70 base hits in 93.2 innings, yet his WHIP sits at 1.48 because of 74 free passes (69 walks, five HBP's). Much work to do for the 22-year-old as a return to High-A seems prudent depending on what is shown next spring. Carolina Pre-Game Media Notes Final, completion of Thursday's suspended game: Salem (Red Sox) 3, Carolina 1 Box Score and Game Log NOTE: The regularly scheduled nightcap was postponed, with two seven-inning contests now scheduled for Saturday. Mudcats Rally Comes Up Short Oh no, Carolina falls into second place, one game behind Washington's Fredericksburg club, in the second half standings. It's tough to analyze all league rosters, but it'd be safe to say that the Mudcats have lost the most talent to promotions league-wide in recent weeks. "Gets us going" is a relative phrase when there is no further "going" - Continue to behold RHP Ethan Dorchies' body of work in 2025 in his age 18 (!) debut season. All of us can do the WHIP math on 41 hits allowed and 30 walks in 71 innings between Arizona and Carolina. Still need help? Answer = 1.00. Wait until that is refined further heading to Wisconsin to begin 2026. Shortstop Brady Ebel struck out in the top of the 1st when this game began on Thursday, with that half-inning being the only action before rain arrived. For whatever reason, he did not play in this resumed contest, thus the box score view. Same goes for initial starter LHP Wande Torres, who must have been fully "hot" and ready to go Thursday and thus bypassed Friday night. We'll see him before the weekend is out. Infielder Filippo Di Turi's monthly splits reveal a near-shocking decline considering how much his praises were being sung earlier this season. Carolina will try again to get two games in when action resumes Saturday. Can we trust the projected starter listed for Nashville? As far as we know, RHP Carlos Rodriguez is in the big-league bullpen. RHP Bishop Letson is scheduled to make his second appearance for Wisconsin since his 14-week long absence.
