I acknowledge your feedback, but at least for one night San Diego had no issue starting him with first place on the line and appreciated his presence. Even in the recent game when Cortes surrendered the three first inning HR's, he settled in for 4.2 scoreless after.

Mendez is another member of the January 2023 international class who won't graduate stateside after three seasons in the DSL. All 46 of the 6'3" pitcher's appearances (covering 71.2 innings) were out of the bullpen. Other than limiting home runs (3), the various peripherals you'll see at that player page link are lacking. Mendez, a Dominican native, turns 21 years old in September.
