This was Payne's first day in a big-league camp dugout, and he doubled on a ground ball to center field in the 9th, finishing 1-for-2. His knock was against RHP Geoff Hartlieb, a journeyman with 68 MLB relief appearances under his belt (albeit with a 7.95 ERA). Adamczewski, who walked in his prior plate appearance, followed Payne's double with a two-run groundball single to center.
