  1. ------ My thoughts are directly related to a guy like Turnbow. He throws massively hard and IMO will never be a guy that is going to paint the corner with a 95 MPH fastball consistently, so if thats the case, Id rather have a guy that has wildness/movement in the zone, than a guy that throws 95MPH but cant get it over the plate, or throws that hard but its straight as an arrow. Of course Id love it ifhe could gain excellent control, etc. but name 20 extremely hard throwing relievers that have excellent control? Id bet most of them are guys who throw hard and are labeled as being wild in the zone not guys with excellent command, if they are successful at all. Also, I still think his lack of a successful offspeed pitch is more of a problem than him not being able to hit the corners consistently enough, right now at least as his former problem was throwing strikes with the fastball. Does that make better sense of what Im trying to say? Wanted to add one more thing. Dhonks, i totally see what you are saying, it would apply IMO if he were a guy that threw in the upper 80s, like Hendrickson, but with a guy that throws in the upper 90s, you cant expect him to be a guy with great control, youre best bet, if you want him to suceed, is for him to be able to hit the strike zone with movement/wildness instead of a straight ball, or out of the zone entirely.
  2. sorry, keep forgetting. Im still learning the do's and don'ts that some on this board demand. regarding my point that always seems to be miscontrued for argument sake. Its better to be wild in the zone, than not IN the zone, or straight in the zone. Movement in the zone is always better than straight, unless you are a maddux type with great control, which not many pitchers have.
  3. Wild within the zone can get a reliever in trouble, ----- actually, thats completely false. Its good to be wild in the zone as its harder for a guy to zero in on you, whats bad is being too straight in the zone, re: your fastball, or even worse, not in the zone period. I would bet Turnbows problem is lack of an offspeed pitch that he can throw for strikes, and probably getting behind in the count.
  4. top 1- zambrano pitching- should be a good test today. Krynzel- U3- dave tripped on his way to first. Weeks- K- three pitches Prince- K bottom 1- Lil Ben Hairston- 3B off LF wall, fastball down the middle Macias- 3-1 nice change up , down 2-1 in count, runner held Nomah- HR- hung a change up on a full count. 2-0 Lee- HBP Hollandsworth- broken bat 1b to right. Kelton- 2 run double, smacked into LF down the line Murray- 4-3, Kelton to third Blanco- 6-3 4-0 Cubs top 2- zambrano still in Jenks- 4-3, smoked to second, but Hairston knocked it down and just got Jenks, bad call Miller- K swinging Helms- K swinging Ugly bottom 2- Lil Ben tries again Zambrano- K Hairston- 1b- chopped into the ground, no play really(CS, perfrect throw by miller, pitch was a ball outside) Macias- 6-3, routine play for Hardy, left the throw a bit low. Top 3- Zambrano in Hart- F9 Hardy- K- called, outside corner, bad call IMO Lil Ben- K swinging Bottom 3- Lil Ben in Nomah- 1b- shot through the left side between hardy and wes Lee- 1b, same spot, just out of JJs reach. Hollandsworth- 4-6-3 dp. Weeks did a nice job on a tough hop. Ben with some better curves. Kelton- 6-3, routine, nice curve again for Ben, he is tightening it up, more bite to it. top 4- Calos K is still in Dave- K swinging in dirt, Carlos is filthy Weeks- K swinging- two straight FB's down the middle, and week was late both times. Prince- F8- not hit hard. Sure am glad I drafted Carlos the other day, his stuff is real good. No hits so far. Bot 4- Obermueller in the game, wouldve liked to see Ben still in. Murray- 1b to right field Blanco- another 4-6-3 DP, real nice turn by the future. They remind me of Trammell and Whitaker, looks wise. Carlos- F-8 Top of 5- carlos still in Jenks- 1b to right- nice at bat. no hitter broken up. Miller- 6-4-3- miller=moeller Helms- hard hit 1b up the middle Hart- same thing as wes. was down in the count Hardy- Hard hit flyout to right. Bottom 5- Obie in the game still, Bed Selig in the booth(whining about the hearings) Hairston- F-8 Macias- 4-3, easy chopper for Rickie Nomah- popup to first. Nice pitching for Wes O. Top 6- Zambrano in still Wes O- solid basehit past Lee at first. Krynzel- K- check swing in dirt again- 9 Ks so far for Carlos. Weeks- Fly ball to right. Prince- lined to second, robbed of at least a base hit. Good at bat, fouled off a few pitches. Even though our young guys have struggled, it is against what I think is a legit ace pitcher on his game. its great experience. Its also evident that these guys still need work, and seeing 4A and other top prospect players at Nashville next year will definately help. Bottom 6- Wes O still pitching. Lee- F-9- Jenks looks comfortable in right. Hollandsworth- JJ with a great play up the middle on a sharp ground ball, just got the runner. Kelton- 1b to left. Walker in for Murray- 1b into center Blanco- K- long at bat, fouled off a lot of 3-2 fastballs, wes threw a slider and got him swinging. Top 7- Russ Rohlicek Sidearm lefty Jenks- basehit towards second, defender too far over and missed on the throw. Miller- Broken bat grounder to short, jenks to second. Helms- Crushed to left center, just missed HR. 4-1 Hart- BB- pitcher all over the place (WP, helms to third, WP, Helms scores, 4-2) Pitching change Michael Wuertz Hardy- F-8 (hart SB, tagged on flyball to third) Hall PH for Wes O- 5-3 Bottom 7- Bottalico pitching. Some Cub changes made an inning or so ago. Kopitzke©- 5-3, cirillo at third Ransom(SS)- BB (moves to 2nd on throw to first, got by PRince, wasnt that bad of throw.) Mcclain- out, K I think ??- F7, lazy fly for Hart. Top 8- Weurtz still in Krynzel- chopper to second. Weeks- Foul out to C Prince- 1b up the middle, down 0-2 in count( SB for Prince!) Drew Anderson PH for jenks- K, called on full count Bottom 8- This game is zoomin along. Adams in the game. Merton?- 6-3, nice play by hall. Rojas- hot shot to Hall, he booted it, ruled error Harvey- K- long at bat, lots of foulled off pitches. Nice job by Mike not giving in. Walker- weak grounder to 2nd. Top of 9- last chance - Chad Fox in the game, boo! jeesh, almost hits borders on the first pitch. Borders- K- nasty slider Cirillo- F9- semi hit hard ball Hart- K looking- the strike zone magically grew in that at bat, pretty sick, sliders were way outside. Game!
  5. I like Wes O but not as the 5th starter, I think he is better suited for a bullpen spot, he can PH then as well. Glover seems better suited for starting. Lil Ben looked better after the first inning. Still needs work though.
  6. Game available today on WGN! --------- thats like the best news Ive ever heard. What I tried to say is that Ive been at my apt trying to get WTMJ in on the radio so I can listen to the game, but was having problems. So I came to this board and saw the sentence above and was excited. Sorry if my lingo is too hard for some to understand. Simply stating my excitement that the game is on TV today. Hope that helps.
  7. I'm not saying Hendrickson is destined for greatness, I'm saying that we don't know WHAT he's destined for. I DO know that based on his domination of AAA, he has nothing else to learn there. He's also earned the right to get more than 46 MLB innings (and SIX spring training innings) before the Brewers should proclaim him a failure. 46 innings.... give me a break! ----- I agree, I was playing around like I said. However, from watching him last year, and being a pitcher, I know I know, my background in the sport isnt valid, I do think his stuff isnt going to cut it in the bigs. Not unless he can consistently hit the corners and add another notch or two to his fastball, which I might add is very possible. His curve also, IMO, doesnt have the bite to fool really good ML hitters on a consistent basis, but that too can improve with more arm strength and better mechanics. The only reason he should go to AAA IMO is due to him changing his mechanics, which like HE even says, takes time to get comfortable with.
  8. rlu, Im wondering what the excuse is gonna be when Lil Ben gets sent to AAA this year after 12 innings or 18 innings of crap pitching this spring? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Seriously, if Lil Ben never makes it in the bigs, whats the reason you are preparing? Im just playing. Im cutting ben some slack right now, even thugh I dont think his stuff is good enough to succeed at this level, all due to his mechanics changes. If that is the case, maybe he should go to AAA to start the year and work those new mechanics out. We dont need a 5th starter that badly in April and Im sure if wise makes the team, he could fill that role til May.
  9. Hope cappy pitches well. i would actually not mind seeing him in the rotation over lil Ben. --- if he isnt injured by opening day, you can guarantee capuano is the 4th pitcher. Question is, who fills out the 5th spot? Lil ben sure isnt helping his cause. Dela is pitching well, so are obie and glover.
  10. okay, so now I'm getting a bit worried about Hendrickson. Not too worried, just a bit worried ---- again, this just my opinion, but you should be worrying, as Lil Ben doesnt quite have the stuff to be a successful ML pitcher. AAA is one thing, facing the best of the best is another, and this is just spring training, he isnt facing the Albert Pujols of the world. But again, its still early, but there is a reason I have Glover, or possibly Obermeller(ugh) making the team as the 5th starter over Ben, but it will be promoted to us as him needing regular work on April due to the off days. Hope Im wrong, but I just dont think his stuff is good enough, his curve moves well, but it doesnt have nearly the bite that Sheets' does.
  11. Being stupid doesn't make people the member of an oppressed Minority these days it makes them part of the oppressive Majortity. ------ I thought politics were a no no on this board? Im offended by thishttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. Well it does prove that hardytheman likes to uses stats that prove stats are bad. What a Stat head! --------- funny.
  13. this is a perfect example for all you stat junkies that MOST stats are very decieving IMO. so trying to prove someone is better than someone else based on stats alone is dumb. Especially the Branyan vs Helms competition. IMO, both players are way below average, so what does it matter?
  14. agreed, i can't get the brewer game on radio or tv, so it's badger time for me. ------ awesome ending! Tucker with the running three pointer off the glass at the buzzer!
  15. If we go with a 12 man staff, that means we are going to be releasing some guys who I think have a roster spot, like Kieshnick. As I see it Sheets, DD, Santos, Cap, Hendrickson are the starters. Thats five. 7 relievers would have to be, Adams Lehr Turnbow Bottalico Bennett De La Kieshnick That means wed be releasing guys with no options, Wise or Glover who I think would make the team as a long reliever. If we did go with 13, like I think we will. that leaves 12 spots. Clark Spivey Obay Lee Jenks Branyan Miller Hardy Hall Moeller Cirillo Helms? I guess we could see Krynzel go to AAA if all three are playing relatively well, but I think its a bad move to keep all three, hence why I can see Cirillo going to AAA and Krnyzel staying as the 4th outfielder, plus, if you cut macgruder, and keep all three, you dont have a 4th OF, unless you expect Bill Hall to be a backup.
  16. Bottalico will be fine, coming into a still early season ST game when youre up 12-1, you arent going to bring your best stuff. He knows he has a roster spot. I see that there is a difference in the way the starting 3b should be chosen. I would think that Ned is going to wait til the very last day and look back and gauge who played better overall and who will bring more to the team, I dont think he just looks at 40 st at bats vs career at bats. There is more too it, he sees guys everyday, we hear about them. Also, it seems that the common theme is that cirillo will make the team. I happen to agree with that, but we do realize that means either Branyan or Helms will be released., there is no way all three of them are on the 25 man roster IMO. I might not see Jeff making the team, and those two do and they platoon, so it might be a moot point. Jeff can still go to AAA like he has said, and wait to come up if there is an injury or if RB or WH are really struggling. The question is, will DM have the permission to rid ourselves of Wes due to his contract? I sure hope so. Last, I just dont see Branyan not making the team and getting the job, unless he totally svcks it up, he hasnt been looking all that great so far, but again, its very early. Helms may have hit two homers today, but its very concievable for him to go 1 for his next 14.
  17. here is to hoping that DD has a good outing.
  18. [ You have ZERO chance of getting on base if you cant make contact. ] Well, you can walk.... or you can take 1st on a passed ball on strike three! ------- Hey brian. make that .5% chance of getting on base then. Also, hard to take a walk if youre swinging and missing, or looking at strike three. Thought Butchs approach this year was for guys to shorten up, and try to make contact with two strikes? Nevermind. I just hate a lot of Ks., reminds me of every single brewer season for the past few years. All this talk of adding Lee and Miller is gonna make us such a great offensive lineup is going to be proven to be way off. I expect another below average offensive team this year. Yeah, I know its only ST, but every years I hear, its only spring training, and the same habits I see in ST carry over to the season. Yeah, I know too that I shouldnt get too carried away right now, but strikeouts just bother me, especially with runners on base. Your chances of driving someone in if you cant make contact, or even moving runners up are very very slim, good offensive teams do the little things, the brewers dont.
  19. sure am glad wynegars, dont take it too seriously approach is working. Thought the point of the game was to make contact? man, WAY TOO MANY K's today. I cant stand strikeouts. You have ZERO chance of getting on base if you cant make contact.
  20. any idea how we scored a run in the 7th?
  21. Look towards the lower left hand corner on mlb.com. Has a list of fastcasts and dates, click the one from yesterday. ---- got it, gracias senor.
  22. By the way, you can see video of Jenkins and Lee's home runs yesterday on mlb.com if you click on the fastcast for yesterday. -------- Where is fastcast on that site? I dont see it?
  23. maybe huntsville will see how crappy Kremblas is and fire him too. I know Im gonna take heat for that comment, but it seems that for two years now, his teams have underachieved bigtime.
  24. This is directed at those who know the winter ball scene. even though its early, krynzel and woolard seem to be doing quite well in this first and maybe only winter ball go around. the question is, what can be told about youngsters like these two doing well in that league specifically. Have other minor league prospects done well there and made big league teams in one or two years? Is it more to keep playing til spring? or is it competitive enough to make you a better player at that age level? I guess, what minor league division would compare to the Mexican winter league? AAA? AA? Thanks, J.
