  1. Sorry, Stern got sent back down today, but Counsell can throw batting practice.
  2. He's also pulled into a tie with Jorge De La Rosa for No. 80 on the Brewers all-time walk list with 74.
  3. Now all alone at No. 87. He'll have to wait for another game to catch Doug Henry.
  4. Claudio Vargas just jumped past Mark Clear on the Brewers all-time innings pitched list. Next up Keven Kobel.
  5. Don't know how many baseball sim fans are out here, but OOTP 9 was released today. http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/board/ootp-9-general-discussions/166874-out-park-baseball-9-its-released.html
  6. Ron Stilanovich? He's a great x's and o's guy and as old school as they come. http://www.youtube.com/ScrappyRon1
  7. In the middle of this page (http://www.baseballprospectus.com/unfiltered/index.php?paged=3) Baseball Prospectus attempts to quantify the heart of various teams. Cubs have the second least heart. Brewers not in the top five either way. Maybe next year.
  8. I'm not real down on McClung but his past performance is pretty bad. 2005 ERA+ 63 (109 innings), 2006 ERA + 73 (103 innings).
  9. You can't win every game, but it should be very rare that your manager puts you in a position where you're less likely to win. Today didn't seem like "just one of those days." Yost sending Bush out for another inning might have been (and could still be) the difference.
  10. I don't think its all that unreasonable to be disappointed when your starting pitcher walks three and hits a guy in a single inning. And I'm certainly of the opinion that Yost has made some questionable pitching choices. Sending Bush back out for the sixth is another.
  11. White Sox had a no hitter going through 6, too. Indians still only have two through 8.
  12. By the way, I think its kind of lame that all of the previews have the exact same story. Lets see these sportswriters battle a little bit out there. My local workplace Cub fan has gone from despondant to depressed over the past week. Lets push him to catatonic today!!!
  13. From the Yahoo Sports preview: "2B Richie Weeks belted the game's first pitch from Ted Lilly onto to Waveland Avenue beyond the left-field bleachers at Wrigley Field. Weeks hit three leadoff homers last season, including one off Lilly on August 30." Richie? Not a very scrappy report.
  14. From the Huntsville game log: Callix Crabbe flies into unassisted double play, left fielder Josh Burrus. Jeff Winchester out at home. [hat flies off head] http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eek.gif
  15. You know this is something I've been wondering about lately. I think Jim Powell might have mentioned that somebody (St. Louis?) apparently had a good scouting report on the Brewers. I honestly have no idea who does the Brewers advance scouting, how long they've been there and what kind of success they've had in the past. Is it possible that some of the Brewers failures are due to simply not knowing the other teams as well as the other teams know the Brewers? It does seem like a disproportionate number of pitchers have looked Cy-Youngesque against the Crew over the past couple of years.
  16. So what's the knock on William Lewis? He hit the ball well, in part time action, last year. He got sent back to low A this year. He's still hitting the ball well, but still in part time action. I'm certainly not advocating less time for the Hurricane, but are the Brewers lower minors options at short too good to allow Lewis a full-time shot? Can he not play there?
