At the end of every season, players on the 60-day DL get activated. As a consequence, they occupy spots on 40-man rosters. And then around the start of every spring training, players get placed on the 60-day DL, as it’s again made available.
Excellent work. I love looking for this article each year as I find it hard to know exactly who does or does not qualify. I generally agree with your choices for protection and the responding comments all make great points.
I ask again for the second year...Why not give us this article before the trade deadline? Doing so would allow us to better know who would perhaps be good ideas to push in the mock trades we all discuss if they will probably not be protected anyway. Just something to consider...
Thanks again for the work put into the article!
Agreed...but he was placed on some type of inactive list and then sent to ACL to pitch on July 28th and then back to Nashville on Aug 1. Again...how does that effect service time towards the 6 years of control. (Pic below of his transactions from mlb.com)
Agreed, however. He began the year with 4.033 years (4 years snd 33 days) of service time. He was optioned...assigned to Nashville on July 28th. 35 days later we are at Sept. 1. If called up when rosters expand, he would finish the season 1-2 days short of 5 years of service time. The conspiracy theorist in me believes the Brewers gain an extra year of team control. (Not verified). And thus.. the lack of many reports on his progress as they rightly manipulate team control as they have enough to get by without him as he has struggled. Perhaps very smart, shrewd under the radar move. 🤔
What players are eligible for the rule 5 draft this year? Who will need to be protected.? Who could/should be included in trade proposals since we may not protect them anyway?
