The Brewers were heavily interested in Alonso during the Trade Deadline, and it would make sense if they make the same push over the offseason. Alonso fills a large hole at first base, and the Mets have consistently mentioned their search for a gold-glove-caliber outfielder. Based on this it would make sense if the two sides came together. Debuting in 2019, INF/1st Pete Alsono is a solid power bat, with a slash line of .217/.318/.504 and an OPS+ of 122. On the other side, outfielder Joey Wiemer is a
below-average hitter, with a slash line of .204/.283/.362 and an OPS+ of 76, however, he is an amazing defender with 7 OAA (Outs Above Average), and incredible range/speed to track down baseballs. To get the deal done the Brewers would also give up their #27 prospect, Ethan Small. This would be a rental deal, as the Brewers would unlikely extend him. This deal is great for both sides since the Mets need a great defensive outfielder and a young pitcher, and the Brewers have a huge hole at first base, with plenty of outfield depth to trade from. Especially if the Brewers want to compete this year, this trade is a no-brainer.
