  1. Not even close. Frankly, for all the reasons already stated, I'm surprised anyone even thought it should be considered.
  2. Yankees. No doubt. They've pretty much always been my second favorite team anyway, and after watching the Brewer lose for most of my life, why not go with a winner when given the chance?
  3. The players certainly have some responsibility to deal with this, but if Prince Fielder or Ryan Braun get hit in the hand and go on the DL for the year (or get hit in the head, and see their career potentially come to an end), is that reason enough to finally get rid of Macha and try to bring in someone who might actually care about this (The guy is almost assuredly not back next year regardless, so shouldn't they use the rest of this year to audition Randolph or Sveum anyway?)? Do Melvin and Attanasio really want this team going through the rest of this season looking/playing this impotent? Obviously they need to upgrade the pitching, but i would say the culture around this team is getting very sad, very quickly.
  4. What's the possible outcome of this whole thing? Brewer batters are going to get more and more frustrated and angry, and eventually feel the need take matters into their own hands. That's when someone is likely to get hurt. Who will be largely to blame? These idiot umpires and MLB.
  5. After the Hawkins thing today, f ainyone still thinks this entire HBP situation is not completely ridiculous, I defy you to tell me how. But, at least I guess we know why Brewer pitchers aren't retaliating. I'm a already ready to see Macha go, but throw this down as another significant reason why (For the record, very bad umpiring).
  6. Who cares? If Mauer tears his ACL, I would suggest Wilson Ramos is not going to be the answer to replacing arguably the best player in baseball either. If Mauer teras his ACL, the Twins are done, Wilson Ramos or no Wilson Ramos.
  7. Well, I guess we'll find out, because they most assuredly will put him on waivers. Somehow I suspect he'll be a Brewer on Opening Day next year.
  8. With Hart's unfortunately timed injury, and the price for Fielder seemingly being too steep, I am back to just hoping the Brewers can win a bunch of games and at least get/stay within striking distance. They aren't going to make the playoffs, but if they can some how reel of a bunch of wins, get back to .500 and 4-5 games back within the next few weeks, I can at least embrace false hope. Hart's injury came at the worst possible time, were at this point there is barely even an opportunity for him to demonstrate that he is healthy enough to be able to hit the rest of the year, and coupled with his well documented inconsistency throughout his career, it makes him a big risk. As it stands right now, I will be shocked if he is traded. With guys like Dunn, Luke Scott, and Lance Berkman out there, same for Fielder. Looking like nobody will be willing to give up the large incremental cost to get Fielder over the aforementioned players. At this point it is looking like the only thing they can do is go win as many games as they can, and get to work on next year.
  9. Well, using that logic, why bother to pay Weeks? Without upgrading the pitching, a decent hitting $10Million/year 2B will get you...pretty much what we have now. Your arguments aren't making any sense. We should pay Weeks a bunch of money so he can be marginally better than Beckham, and take money away from potential pitching upgrades. How does that make the team better in any way? BTw, is signing Ted Lilly, they only possible way to improve the pitching staff?
  10. Coupled with Weeks own inconsistency, I can think of about 30 Million reasons, and the pitches those 30 Million reasons could buy.
  11. Wow. What is it about Weeks' career .252 AVG, .780 OPS and shoddy defense that makes you say that? Beckham is having a bad (half) year to be sure, but it is seems pretty similar to the year Weeks had in '05...and '07...and '08. Weeks is having a great year, and it is easily the exception. I would love for the 2010 version to be the real Rickie Weeks, but I'm not sure why anyone would be convinced that is the case. This team is desperate for pitching, and tying $10/year up on a terribly inconsistent 2b, when you could theoretically get a comparable (or better), younger player for half as much or less, doesn't make any sense.
  12. This from a guy who advocates signing Rickie Weeks to a big money contract extension. Looking at both players first 180 games or so, their numbers are nearly identical, except for fielding of course, where Weeks' are much worse. I like Weeks fine, but if I can get Beckham for more years and less money, sign me up.
  13. Correct. Especially since a talent like Beckham can also be turned into pitching.
  14. With AJ a FA after this year, no way are the Sox moving Flowers. I don't know what they all have coming off the books, but I suspect much of it would be eaten up by the raise Prince will get next year.
  15. The more I think about this, the more skeptical I become. How could the Sox even trade Beckham. They don't have a whole lot of options for 2B, so it would obviously require another move or a third team. Certainly Crag Counsell isn't going to play 2B every day for the White Sox.
